IMPORTANT ELECTION
SEASON
FAMILY FUN DAY
We are now in the final weeks of Election
Season 2014 and I urge you to remember two
things: actions speak louder than words and
always remember who your friends are!
Saturday, October 25, 2014 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Bring your family to the Teamsters Local 20 Hall for a
Spooktacular time!
Candy Treats • Face Painting • Pumpkin Decorating
Bounce House • Costume Contest • Fall Pictures
Ed FitzGerald is running to replace our current incumbent, John Kasich,
who as we all remember, tried to destroy the middle class with antiworker legislation which the people of Ohio strongly voted to repeal.
Yes, Mr. Fitzgerald has been in the press lately with some not so flattering
information but that should not outweigh his hard work and dedication.
He stands with working men and women and deserves our endorsement
and support for Governor for the State of Ohio.
Connie Pillich, a retired Air Force Captain, is running for State Treasurer.
In the state legislature Pillich wrote legislation ensuring veterans would
get the benefits they deserve and fought against anti-worker bills.
Dawn Patrol/Election After Party
John Patrick Carney is running for State Auditor. Carney has worked
to attract good-paying jobs to Ohio and passed legislation to improve
nutrition requirements for Ohio schools.
Election Day November 4, 2014 @ 4:30 a.m.
Sign up to help with Dawn Patrol to support our Endorsed Candidates. The
Teamsters Local 20 office will close at noon but be sure to join us at the
Teamsters Local 20 Hall for the Election after party at 7:00 p.m.
Senator Nina Turner is running for Secretary of State to make sure
that all Ohioans can freely exercise their constitutional right to vote.
She believes eligible voters should have their vote counted, regardless
of political affiliation.

David Pepper is currently the Commissioner for Hamilton County and
is running for Attorney General. He will be a voice for working families
and strongly enforce worker safety laws.
ECONOMY AND HEALTHCARE
As workers in the United States struggle to pick themselves up from
the 2008 recession, job growth is being undermined by lower wages.
In 2014, workers are making an average of 23% LESS than they were
with jobs that were lost. Coupled with Corporations who are slashing
fulltime jobs in an effort to avoid paying healthcare premiums, now
more than ever, Unions are needed.
How is the working class expected to ever get ahead if they are working
less and paying more? Collective Bargaining, that’s how! With a strong
Union by your side, we will fight for you. We will fight for full time
jobs and healthcare benefits so that you can feel secure in knowing you
and your families are protected.
LABOR DAY PARADE
The spirits of the marchers for this year’s Labor Day Parade was
simply outstanding! As always I was extremely proud to see Local
20 represented by so many Teamster members and motorized units.
Afterward our members, along with over 30 local unions were able to
enjoy a celebration of solidarity at the Lucas County Fairgrounds during
our first annual Labor Fest. With the live band, corn hole tournament,
kids activities, food and refreshments; everyone had a good time and
we look forward to seeing you there next year.

Sandusky County EMS originated in 1975 and operates from a permanent tax
levy and revenues generated from transports. In April of 2008, Sandusky County
EMS successfully organized with Teamsters Local 20. Some of the duties these
paramedics are responsible for include: starting IV’s, maintaining patient’s breathing
by intubation, administering medications, assessing vital signs, controlling bleeding
and immobilizing fractures, amongst many other things. These members work
diligently to provide full medical care and transportation in emergency situations.
Working 24 hour shifts, 365 days a year, the residents of Sandusky County can have
comfort in knowing that a hard working Teamster Paramedic is always on duty,
should a situation arise.

The City of Toledo Wastewater Treatment Plant is one of the largest wastewater
treatment facilities in Northwest Ohio. The facility, located near the mouth of the
Maumee River, provides treatment services to an area of approximately 100 square
miles. The members of Teamsters Local 20 at the Water Reclamation Plant ensure
the safety of our water and help produce a clean environment for wildlife to flourish.
When you take a drink of water or utilize Lake Erie, remember that a strong Teamsters
Local 20 member was working hard to ensure that your waterways are safe for you
and the community to enjoy.

NEWS FROM YOUR
LEGAL BEAGLES
Ohio’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles Point System
Lou Kovacs, Associate
Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer
Violating Ohio traffic laws can result in the accumulation of
points on your driver's license. If a driver accumulates twelve
points within a two-year period, his driving privileges will be
suspended for a period of six months. In order to be restored
to full driving privileges after six months the driver will have
to complete a remedial driving course, pay a reinstatement fee
to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, file proof of financial responsibility with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles for three years and
retake the driving test.
OVIs, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident,
drag racing, fleeing and eluding an officer, vehicular assault and
driving with a suspended operator's license are the most serious offenses carrying six points.
Reckless operation of a motor vehicle and speeding offenses,
where the driver is cited for going more that thirty miles an
hour over the speed limit, are four point offenses.
Most infractions where the driver is involved in an accident are
two point offenses. Stop sign, red light, failure to yield, marked
lanes charges and most speeding violations carry two points.
If the Bureau of Motor Vehicles determines that the driver is
at risk of losing his license the Registrar will send a warning
letter. The Registrar will credit a person's driving record after
the completion of a state approved remedial driving instruction
course.
Unfortunately most of us feel the impact of these point infractions even though we are nowhere near the twelve point limit.
Insurance companies increase premium payments for drivers
who have as few as two points on their driving record. Therefore it is important to discuss your legal options with an attorney before a plea is entered.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this law feel
free to contact the offices of Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault and
Schaffer Co. L.P.A.
What is a QR Code?
Also known as a Quick Response Code... It is a fast way to
get information connected to your cell phone. A QR code
can connect you to a website, contact information, or even a
coupon.
Why is a QR Code more useful
than a standard barcode?
The information in a QR code is more widely used than
that of a standard barcode and a QR code reader can be
downloaded on any smart phone!
How are QR Codes useful to me
and The Teamsters?
Any time The Teamsters want to make information or
connecting with you easier, there will be a QR Code in the
Team and Wheel. By scanning the code you can register for
events and connect to useful up to date information.
