19TH OCTOBER 2014
POPE SAINT JOHN PAUL II
29TH SUNDAY
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
PROGRAMME 2015
18 May 1920 ‒ 2 April 2005
Pope Saint John Paul II (also
known as Saint John Paul the
Great) was Pope of the Catholic
Church from 16 October 1978
until his death on 2 April 2005.
He was the second longest-serving
Pope in modern history after Pope
Pius IX who served for 31 years
from 1846 to 1878.
Born in Poland, John Paul II was
the first non-Italian pope since the
Dutch Pope Adrian VI who served
from 1522 to 1523.
John Paul II is recognised as helping to end Communist rule in his
native Poland and eventually all of
Europe and significantly improved
the Catholic Church's relations
with Judaism, Islam, the Eastern
Orthodox Church, and the Anglican Communion. He upheld the
Church's teachings against artificial contraception and the ordination of women, supported the
Church's Second Vatican Council
and its reform, and in general held
firm to orthodox Catholic stances.
He was one of the most travelled
world leaders in history, visiting
129 countries during his pontificate. As part of his special emphasis on the universal call to holiness, he beatified 1,340 people and
canonised 483 saints, more than
the combined tally of his predecessors during the preceding five

From The Fathers …………
Teacher We Know That You
Are True
They called him teacher and
truly he was. Yet they were
only pretending that he was a
teacher one honoured and
praised. They pretended that
he would simply open to them
the ministry of his heart as if
they wanted to be his disciples. This is the first power of
hypocrites to simulate praise.
They praise those whom they
want to destroy. Their art is
to incline human hearts towards simplicity of a kind
confession through the delight of praise. They take
small steps, a little at a time.
Please pray for those who are sick
or housebound:
