Don’t forget, our remaining 2014 planners
are still 50% OFF!
Why indeed?
Well a few years ago one of the owners Erika Graham
was suffering from acid reflux. For 2 years Erika uses
prescription medications as Pariet (Rabeprazole
Sodium) Pepcid, Tums, etc were not sufficient. It
restricted her diet as well as acid items like orange
juice, apple juice, tomatoes etc. caused real pain.
Then in Mexico running out of her prescription she
mentioned it to her cousin who said - why don't you
use Palo Jiote? Erika was familiar with Palo Jiote, the
bark of the Palo Jiote tree being boiled and the water
used to relieve itchiness as when a child has Chicken
Pox as it tends to dry up the blister - but to drink it,
who would have thought?
As it turned out its mentioned on line in a Herbal book
used for a multitude of purposes as well as one recent
2013 Cancer study of tropical plants.
We could not find PaloJiote in the Mexican markets so
there was nothing to do except go out with a Machete
for some bark. Fortunately it is a fairly common tree in
the rain forests and farms of Mexico, consequently
with a nice cutting of bark Erika was able to use it for 2
weeks in place of tea, or coffee or juice and before
eating. We worried about bringing it back to Canada in
the raw form due to regulations on plant matter but as
it turned out, 2 weeks was enough, on return she
found she no longer had stomach problems. Erika also
had a degenerative eye problem with a blister on the
Retina (CSR) if it advanced to the Optic nerve that eye
would be blinded - she had been recently informed
that eye drops might have been part of the cause of
the eye issue so had discontinued the eye drops anyway coincidentally the blister on the retina basically
quit advancing and disappeared (dried) so sight was
not lost.
That could have been the end of it but once free of the
Acid Reflux and eye problem we wanted some for in
Canada, in case the problem came back. We did some
internet searches for Palo Jiote and found it was also
known as Bursera simaruba and as Gumbo-Limbo and
grows as far north as the southern US. However we
could find no commercial or internet source for it. On a
return trip to Mexico we got to know a Swedish
gentleman that exports organic dried fruit and nuts as
well as Coconut oil to the US. He was willing to add
PaloJiote to the list of products as his farm producers
had these trees as well.
We were able to have the product professionally dried
and ground and packaged to meet Canada and US
import requirements complete with UPS code. As it
turned out we are also selling it in Mexico as not
everyone wants to go out with a Machete which is
rather dangerous in the hands of the untrained user.
There are currently 2 grinds, a medium grind that
looks more like a traditional tea as well as a fine grind
with the thought it may be more suitable for someone
using it with skin issues though equally useable as a
tea to drink, warm or cold.
Is it a drug? No, we can make no claims beyond
using it as a tea, all that happened with Erika could be
coincidental, but if you would like to try it we have
another limited supply of 100 bags. Each bag is
regularly $29.98, but for a limited time that will be
reduced to $15.00 per 30 gram bag available, about 1
to 2 weeks of what Erika took.
