years Helping Hands Ministries has been providing the needy in the Harrisburg area with food, clothing and other assistance in an environment of
Christian love. St. Michael opens its doors three evenings a week to serve
hot meals and provide a temporary place of rest for its clients. Below you

ELECTION DAY SOUP AND BAKE SALE—Election Day is November 4. St. Michael's semiannual Soup and Bake Sale will be held from 7:00
a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Stop by and pick up lunch/dinner and dessert! Soups are
$7/quart; baked goods $1/per package. Homemade soups, bread, cookies,
brownies, and other treats will be available. Call the kitchen(717-234-0106)

THE 4TH ANNUAL TREE 4 HOPE TURKEY DAY 5K—The 5K run
will be held on Thursday, November 27th, 2014, at 9am on the former Harrisburg State Hospital Grounds. In just three years we went from only 36
participants to over 400, and we hope to have more than 500 participants this
year. The funds raised at this event will buy shoes, clothes and meals for the
children of Hogar Miguel Magone and Maria Auxiliadora (boys' and girls'
orphanages), as well as the elders at Santiago Atitlan. Registration is $30 and
includes a technical t-shirt (by October 31). You can download a registration

PRAYERS BEFORE WORSHIP
Creator of all, you have called us and chosen us to be your people. By the
power of your Holy Spirit may we bear witness with joy and conviction to
the good news of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Lord our God, the rock of our salvation, grant unto us the indwelling of your
Holy Spirit as we come to you in faith and prayer. By the gracious influence
of your Holy Spirit, in this hour and through this week, may we escape the
corruption that is in the world and bear the fruit of true goodness and righteousness. Amen.
WORSHIP NOTES
In today's first reading God uses the Gentile ruler Cyrus to accomplish divine purposes. When the Pharisees try to trap Jesus, he tells them to give the
emperor what belongs to him and to God what belongs to God. To gather for
worship reminds us that our ultimate allegiance is to God rather than to any
earthly authority. Created in the image of God, we offer our entire selves in
the service of God and for the sake of the world.

an amplified, high quality audio of the entire service. We invite our guests

THE PRISON ACTION COMMITTEE—is the oldest ministry of Christian Churches United and as one of its projects coordinates the Work Release
Worship Services for Dauphin County Prison each Sunday afternoon. On
October 19, they will recognize five years of this program at the regular 4
PM event on South 19th Street at CCU offices in the former Redeemer Lutheran church building. Members of the community who have helped, including St. Michael Lutheran, have been invited to attend.
"YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT," - or so the saying goes. Join us for this
month's Soul Food next Sunday to Celebrate Fair Trade Month and explore
how what you eat really does make a difference. Learn about the work Lutheran World Relief is doing to ensure growers and workers around the
world are receiving a fair price for their products and a decent wage. Sample
fair trade coffee, tea, chocolate, and other goodies made with fair trade products from the LWR Coffee Project. Hear more about how our synod and Lutheran World Relief are partnering with our companion diocese in Tanzania
to implement a fair trade program there. Share a simple meal on this Reformation Sunday and consider how you might reform some of your shopping
and dining habits in order to better love your neighbors near and far.

prayer, and song on Sunday, October 26th at 3 pm; Governor Dick Park in

ALL SAINTS DAY—We will celebrate the Festival of All Saints on Sunday, November 2. A display is set up in the upper narthex remembering all
those persons who have lived and died in the faith. You are welcome to
share your photos of those who have blessed your life. Also, the Book of the
Names of the Dead is available for you to list the names of loved ones.
These names will be lifted up during the Intercessory Prayers for the Festival
of All Saints’ Day.
