(Email to: [email protected],Tel: 07746713818) October 2014 “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: and by Him all that believe are justified.” Acts 13 v 38-39 Meetings Sunday Services — 11:30am & 6:30pm Sunday School & Bible Class — 10:10am Prayer Meeting — Wednesday at 8pm www.rathfrilandbaptist.com Thought for the Month I once heard about a fellow who skipped Church on Sunday to go hunting. It began to pour with rain and he slid inside a hollow log to stay dry. When the rain stopped, he started to slide out but found that the rain had made the log swell and he was stuck. As hard as he tried, he could not get out. He thought to himself, “No one knows where I am and they will never find me inside this log. I am going to die in this log.” Then he remembered it was Sunday and he should have been in Church. It made him feel so small he was able to crawl out of the log. The Psalmist, in Psalm 84 speaks of God's tabernacles, the courts of the Lord, and the house of God. He talks about the Temple. What the Temple was to the Psalmist, the Church should mean to us. Look at what he says. “How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!” The word “amiable” means “loved.” He is talking about how much he loved God’s house. The depth of his love is seen in verse 2. He says, “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord.” He loved God’s house and longed to be in it. Do you have a love for meeting here on the Lord’s Day with the Lord’s people? In verse 3 he gives us a beautiful picture of dwelling in God’s house. We read, “Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.” He describes two birds. First, there is the sparrow that had found a house in God’s house. This speaks of a living in God’s house, or to put it another way, being faithful to Church. The second bird that is mentioned is the swallow. The Psalmist describes the swallow building a nest where she can lay her young. The interesting thing is where she lays her young. It is on the altars of the Lord. This speaks of bringing our children up in God’s house. Every parent ought to make the house of God a place where they bring up their children. This Month... Baptismal Service When: Sunday, 5th October. Please pray for this meeting and those going through the waters of baptism. Gospel concert... When: Friday, 24th October Who: Organised by the Fegan family, special speakers and singers in attendance. Who: All proceeds to The Barbour Ward, R.V.H., Belfast. Notice something significant about dwelling in God’s house. In verse 4 we read, “Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.” The Psalmist is telling us that happy is the person who dwells in God’s house. I hope you find this church a place where you love to come and bring your family and a place you will find the source of true joy. I hope you don’t find it easy to stay away. God bless, Pastor Ian Wilson Next Month... What: Ladies’ Outreach Coffee Morning. When: Saturday, 1st November Who: Speaker will be Stephanie Parke Please pray for this event and invite any unsaved friends, family and neighbours. You will be made most welcome!
