2014 TCRC Annual Report Aquatics Our Dive team was led by Head Coaches Rachel Pustilnik at the start of the season and then by Miggen Carlson. Heather Barber joined our dive coaching staff for the season and Carle Silvestri helped out as well. The divers had a great season! At Champs, we had several children place in their category. We may be small in numbers…but we make up for it in quality! We hope your child would love to give diving a try next summer! Our Swim team was led by Head Coach Chuck Kratzert and our returning Assistant Coaches Michael Cousins, Lindsy Doyle and Amanda Sheldon! Our coaching staff was complete as we welcomed former Tsunami swimmer Ryan Densley to our coaching staff this year! Our swimmers competed in the Blue Division this summer and won 2 of our 6 meets…that’s pretty good considering it is the Top Division. We’ll be in this Division again for the 2015 season…3 rd time might be the charm! Thank you to our Dive and Swim coaches for an awesome season!!! Our Swim Lesson program went smoothly when the weather cooperated with us. Our Water Aerobics is always a hit and we’d like to see more of you taking advantage of what Janet has to offer for you all! We had three fundraisers at Chick-Fil-A, Sweet Frog and Glory Days Grill. We’d like to thank these businesses for supporting our Aquatics programs. A HUGE thank you to our parents and members for their support in our swim and dive teams! After 5 summers as VP, it is time to pass the baton. I cannot express how appreciative I am of all the help our parents and staff at TCRC have given to our Aquatics programs. Without this help…these programs could not be offered to these precious children! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you all! Respectfully, Heather Heishman VP Aquatics B&G There have been a multitude of changes in the 2014 year for B&G. In conjunction with Operations, we have repaired the upper pool pump twice, repaired pump pipes burst over the winter and addressed many items to improve the overall facility. This year we contracted Rock Creek Landscape Solutions to take over the lawn and basic landscape maintenance of the grounds. We have received nothing but great response about the improvements. Rock Creek will continue to do spot maintenance over the winter months, such as reseeding as needed, pruning the hedge adjacent to the Blankenship neighbor, trash removal from the tennis courts, light pruning and general clean up, such as removing limbs after storms. Their contract includes the Blankenship house, but excludes leaf removal. We have purchased a new cover for the upper pool, replaced the sinks and counter in the ladies dressing room/restroom, replaced the shower and hose bib at the volleyball courts, and contracted with a member/plumber to ‘winterize’ the facilities this fall to avoid burst pipes and other winter wear and tear. We are removing the diseased tree on the front lawn in the next two weeks, and will fill the sink hole on the front lawn as well. We are currently reviewing proposals for pool deck concrete replacement and repair, and will budget for this process over the next 2-3 years. We are preparing to remove the chained bollards adjacent to the tennis courts due to 3 members/guests tripping and getting injured. Also, during the fall months, we will move all chairs and tables from pool deck to covered spaces, move all hoses and vacuum equipment into a covered area, and rebuild the sand curbing at the volleyball courts. We have also drawn plans up to address the downhill scour that is used as a walkway to the lower tennis courts, the gravel infill and drainage issues along the lower walk/stairs by the volleyball courts, and the walkway to the upper courts. We are looking to plan a fall and/or spring volunteer day to assist with some of these items, so we are looking to create a member list of talents and skills that can certainly improve Three Chopt. There are also many other items that are on the list to address on a timely basis that either need to be replaced, restored or reworked. Thanks for the opportunity to serve the facilities and the membership! Respectfully, Heather Barber VP Buildings & Grounds Finance As a long-time member and Board member of TCRC, I am acutely aware of the high cost of operating our facility. Some members forget that we pay for water, sewer, trash, power, maintenance, taxes and lawn care just like most of our member-families and we also have to stick to our budget just as they do. I am pleased to say that the fiscally conservative approach of our 2014 Board of Directors and employees has produced a very good result for the past season. Through August, we have had income of $369,560 or about 92% of budget with $291,015 in expenses or 73% of budget. While the bulk of our income is collected between March and August, our expenses continue throughout the fall with pool closing and normal facility costs. In addition, we anticipate some extra maintenance costs to make needed repairs to the lower pool deck and furniture rehabilitation. These things need to be done now while the weather is mild in order to be ready for the 2015 season. The complete financial report through October will be available at the Annual meeting. On a very positive note, we have contracted with Verizon Wireless to allow them to place an unobtrusive data node on the TCRC property. This node will allow our members to have better data and cell access while Verizon pays TCRC a fee. The Board and I see this as a win-win for TCRC. Respectfully, Rebecca M. Goshorn VP Finance Membership Our Three Chopt family grew by 45 new families this summer. We welcome our new members and we hope you enjoyed your first year at Three Chopt…the first of many to come! We also held a Membership Drawing for our Three Chopt Families this summer. We asked our families to send us five names of their friends who would be interested in joining Three Chopt. We had 12 families respond and their names went into the pool (no pun intended) to have their 2014 dues paid in full. The winner of this drawing was the Rogers Family! If we run this promotion in the future…we hope that you will participate and it might be you who wins! We hope you enjoy your home away from home at Three Chopt Recreation Club and we look forward to seeing you around the courts and in the pool in 2015! Respectfully, Pam Hughes VP Membership Operations Operations for Three Chopt Recreation Club 2014 went very well. How is that statement quantified? There were no major incidents with success in operation of the staff, pool equipment, volleyball and, most importantly, membership. Our staff Pool Manager, Randy Coleman, has made this his final year with TCRC. We wish him much success in being a grandfather and his career in realestate. We want to thank him for his years of services with TCRC. He will be hard to replace, but we will starting a search in November. We also will be losing a long time employee - Tim Herber, as he has graduated from nursing school this year. He started his working career with TCRC and moved through the ranks to assistant manager with becoming our go to man for all handy work at the facilities. We should all be lucky enough to have him at our bedside should it be needed. We welcomed Wendy Lipscomb as a new assistant manager this year. We look to many years of success with her. We had many familiar poolside staff that returned to guard and concessions. 6 new swing shift guards came over from concession this year to join our senior guard staff. There were 3 successful saves in 2014. All parties walked away shaken but without incident. The staff continues to be the best in the area and met all of their training requirements with 100% success. We started the year with a few pump problems on the upper pool but they were easily resolved. The algae was tougher than normal this year. However, staff worked hard to stay on top of it with success. Volleyball had our largest growth in 2014. We started the year with a donation of new net equipment. These nets are mounted on a telescope pole which will allow for growth of RVC youth volleyball at TCRC. A new rules and regulation sign for use of court was installed to help in safety on the courts. There was a growing interest from RVC and ROV for use of the courts, they look for continued growth in 2015. TCRC Volleyball committee has solid ideas to implement next year and are excited at the financial opportunity volleyball will bring going forward. We, sincerely, would like to thank the membership for helping make 2014 another great season at TCRC. Your continued input helps TCRC grow in a successful direction. Please continue to provide input to our managers and if you observe something in passing, during the off season, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] . Respectfully, Wink Nelson VP Operations Social Yet again this summer at Three Chopt, fun was had by all ages! We kicked off the Memorial Day Weekend with our annual picnic. Beautiful weather was on our side to celebrate those who have served our great country. Our dads were treated to root beer floats and a volleyball game! Our ladies had a fun night with a fiesta and shopping. July came upon us quickly and we celebrated the 4th with our picnic and water games. Our relays are always a hit, as well as our Splash contest in the Upper Pool. Winners this year were Kate Carlson for the 17 and under group and Randy Mortimer made the biggest splash for our 18 and over group. Our middle school students enjoyed their Middle School party and also helped fill a local food pantry with their donations. Our youngest patrons enjoyed noodle nights and our Kindergarteners were treated to a sundae to celebrate a new milestone in their life. We also showed The Lego Movie and our families that attended, had a wonderful time! To cap our season off, our annual Summer Survivor’s party was held in September and we could not have asked for a better way to celebrate the season…so much fun was had by all. Thanks to all for attending these events and a HUGE thanks to those who help make these events happen at TCRC! Respectfully, Heather Heishman Activities Coordinator Tennis Three Chopt Tennis 2014 has seen our tennis program continually building, adjusting and growing stronger. Rob Johnston and the tennis committee worked hard to bring a fresh and active year of tennis to Three Chopt members. JP Bonilla continues to work with Rob and our members and we had Sean Reynolds join our tennis staff. He has been a wonderful addition to the courts. Winter had a group joining Rob in a special winter membership at Raintree Swim and Racquet Club as well as clinics and doubles play on our courts when weather permitted. Don’t forget our courts (4 with lights) are available year round and mid to late afternoon is a beautiful time on the courts in cooler weather. This winter there are partnerships and specials being offered by Courtside West and Raintree. Contact Rob @ [email protected] for information. Spring saw the continuation of four Ladies Suburban teams, our Ladies Prime Timers team, five USTA teams and two Men’s RTA teams. In junior tennis we had four Junior Team Tennis teams. The courts were busy, but there is always room for more. Summer months were thriving despite the wet weather. Three Chopt had two junior teams participating in the Richmond Junior Suburban Tennis League and two JTT teams. Our Boys 14 JTT team will be traveling to sectionals this fall. Tsunamis camps, lessons and clinics for all ages ran throughout the summer and two junior tournaments were very successful and well attended including the State 8 & under Championships.
