Valley View Mission: To engage in innovative practices within a child-centered community
that empower our students to become responsible and caring citizens of tomorrow’s world.
AFTER SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS
Parents are asked to send a written note to the classroom teacher about any changes in
your child’s after school arrangements. Please note that the Rola Rena After-School Skating
Sessions and the After-School Bus and Bowl are NOT school sponsored activities. Therefore, if you have signed your child up for one or both of these activities, you must send a written note to the classroom teacher as this is a change in your student’s normal after school arrangements.
This is not meant to inconvenience you, but rather to ensure the safety of your child and
that we have the correct information of how your child is to get home.
In the event of an emergency, or unforeseen changes in after school plans, please contact the school office prior to 2:30 p.m. to ensure that your child’s teacher receives the message.
Food Service Substitutes
Want a flexible job while your children are in school? Work as a lunch lady
or lad! Our substitute positions provide the perfect hours; you pick and choose the
days, turn down offers that do not fit the family schedules and still be home when
the kids get off the bus. Apply on the district web page, under Human Resources /
Employment opportunities / Substitutes.
UPCOMING SYSTEMS CHANGES
This school year, we are planning some district-wide system changes. These include replacements to our parent-teacher conference scheduling system and our rapid communication
system. We are also looking to add functionality to PowerSchool that allows for securely
sending report cards to parents electronically and parent Single Sign-On (SSO), where
parents create a single PowerSchool login account to access information on all of their children. Finally, we plan to expand online payment of lunch
balances to include online payment of school fees.
Stay tuned...Detailed information regarding each of these
changes will be communicated separately.
Please Have Your Email
Address(es) On File With Us
We rely more and more on communicating with parents electronically so
please have your email address(es) on
file with us. Email is one of the quick
and effective ways to get the word out
regarding emergencies, snow closings or
delays, newsletters and other information. Our Blackboard Connect rapid
communication system can contact parents by email and/or phone, depending
on the situation. Email is also costeffective when compared to producing
paper copies and mailing them or sending them home with students.
To get your email address(es) on file
with us, you can simply log into PowerSchool and enter it yourself (see diagram) or contact your child’s school
office to have them enter it. Don’t forget
to update your email address if your
work or home email account has
changed.
PowerSchool Parent/Student Access Now On
Information Regarding Mobile Apps
PowerSchool’s Parent/Student Access has been turned on as of the first day of school. Login information for AHS students who are new to the district was handed out at Freshmen / New Student Orientation in August. New Grades K-8
students’ login information was mailed home during the week of on September 8th.
PowerSchool does have a mobile app for students and one for parents. Even though you can access PowerSchool using
your mobile device's web browser, the mobile apps provide a 'mobile-friendly' interface to PowerSchool on devices
such as iPhones and iPads. However, because of the integration between PowerSchool and our Blackboard Connect
rapid notification system, the Parent mobile app does not work. So, we suggest parents simply use the Student mobile
app and login as the student. The only difference with using the Student app is parents can’t modify their email preferences. To modify their email preferences, parents have to login as the parent, using the normal (i.e. computer) Parent/
Student Access web portal. We plan to switch away from BlackboardConnect this school year, which should allow the
parent mobile app to work for us.
