Melina Healey is on the faculty of Loyola University Chicago
School of Law, where she teaches in the Child Law Policy and
Legislation Clinic. She previously served as a judicial clerk to
the Honorable John T. Nixon in the U.S. District Court in
MPH

of Health Sciences and B.S. in Health Promotion from Montana
State University Billings.

Representative
Nashville, Tennessee, and at a number of public defender and
child advocacy organizations. Her first exposure to Montana
was as a wrangler in the Rocky Mountains, but she gained a
deeper understanding of the state as a law clerk with the
ACLU of Montana, when she had the privilege of getting to
know some families on the Fort Peck Reservation. Armed with
some of these families' stories, and with data collected from
the state, she wrote a series of award winning articles

outlining the particular manifestation in Montana of the
phenomenon known as the school-to-prison pipeline. Melina
has presented her research at conferences and symposia
dedicated to juvenile justice, school discipline, and Indian law.

Dr. Whitebird Orange completed her education at the
American Indian Native Alaskan research center in Denver,
Colorado. She has worked for many years as an in-home
family therapist for Native youth and their families. Her
experience includes working with historical trauma,
post-traumatic stress disorder, grief and loss issues, substance
abuse, gambling addiction, ending cycles of domestic
violence, reducing high risk-behaviors, and suicidal and
self-destructive thoughts. As a trained health psychologist,
creating balance between mind and body, emotion and spirit
is a unique quality of her work

Lawrence “Larry” Wetsit is the Vice-President of Community
Services at Fort Peck Community College, with a BA from
Antioch University/NAES College and MBA from the University
of Mary. Mr. Wetsit was part of Dr. T. Brockie’s research in 2011
on 15-24 year old Native Americans at Fort Peck that
examined historical and contemporary factors influencing the
lives of Native American youth.
