Volume 21, Issue 2 October 2014 http://www.chittagonggrammarschool.com/menu/newsletter.htm CGS SEPTEMBER EVENTS RS International Dear Parents, We aim for your child to excel in all four areas when he/she graduates from CGS - scholarship, leadership, community service, character. These achievements were not chosen at random. They are the core to a fulfilled life. Scholarship is much more than just getting straight A's. It is a life-long love of learning. In the end it is a sum of small choices. Each time one decides to WANT to learn something, the experience is so rewarding that the next time becomes easier. Soon learning becomes a habit at which point, the desire to learn makes getting A's easier while taking the focus off of grades. Suddenly the world around them becomes richer, full of meaning and learning opportunities. Leadership is not about being elected or appointed to an office but to be able stand up for what one believes in, to face the music even when things get unpleasant, to have a purpose and a vision and to try and achieve it, remembering that the goal is not to get power. Community Service is an attitude not a means to an end or to get service points or a necessity of social life but a well-rested feeling that one has done something worthwhile. Character "The measure of a man's real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out" said Thomas Macaulay, for while being honest and honourable when others are watching, it is important to be true to oneself. At CGS, we have our eyes focused on these achievements.
