APRIL 2015 NEWSLETTER
The season is well under way with all five fields busy, games seven days a week,
and many “under the lights” games for our 12u and 14u divisions. We hope the
girls are having fun, learning new skills, being competitive, and bonding together
as a team. Here’s a rundown of important information to share:
Pitch, Hit & Run Competition: Saturday, April 18 @ 4pm: Carmichael Girls
Softball will be hosting our 2015 MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition on
Saturday, April 18th @ 4pm on Field 2. Participation is free for all registered
players ages 7-14, and all girls are encouraged to come out and join the fun.
Please feel free to reach out to Albert Hernandez ([email protected])
with any questions. Parents will need to pre-register online and complete
information is available at the link below (more information will be posted on our
homepage and Facebook account as we get closer):

All Stars: CGS’s 2015 All Star program is coming up quick! Interested coaches
for 8u, 10u, 12u and 14u must complete and turn in a Coach Application form by
Monday, April 13th to their division agents in order to be considered. Tryouts for
these divisions will occur on Sunday, May 3rd – more information will be shared
by division agents and on our website and Facebook page as we get closer. All
Star season lasts from the final week of May through mid July, requires an
additional registration, and parents must complete an All Star Family
Commitment Form prior to tryouts.
Volunteers: We are quickly approaching the half way mark of the season but
only about 1/3 of parents have completed or started their required volunteer
hours – don’t wait any longer to pitch in! There are plenty of available snack bar
slots that can be filled, so please contact your Team Parent/Manager for
additional information and opportunities ASAP. It’s simple to schedule: just go to
the CGS website, click on the volunteer tab, click the Volunteer spot button, enter
your email twice, and finally pick a slot. Hope to see you soon because without
volunteers none of this is possible! (Please keep in mind that the minimal
requirement of hours is simply a suggestion – CGS is run 100% by volunteers, so
more hours is only a good thing!)
Jr. Umpires and Rule Changes in 8u & 10u Divisions: Monday, April 13th is
the start of the second half of the season, which means the rule changes that
coaches in Rookies and Mini Minors have been working on officially go live. In
Mini Minors, this means the dropped third strike will be in effect (per ASA rules),
and for the Rookie Division, the game will transition from coach pitching to player
pitching. Keep in mind this threshold is something coaches have been working
toward since early February and was created to help transition girls more
productively to key developmental components of the games. Our Junior
Umpires in the Rookie Division have been doing a truly amazing job and we want
to thank all parents and coaches for helping support them and for looking after
them. Please continue this support with the new rule changes – hopefully your
own daughters one day will want to join the Jr. Umpire program themselves!
Come Out and Support Your Carmichael Pride! Come support your 12u
Carmichael Pride team at this weekend’s ASA Summer Series Tournament hosted
by Carmichael Girls Softball at Carmichael Park’s Fields 1 and 2. Enjoy the CGS
snack bar featuring tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers, and all the usual
snacks. Also at the tournament will be a shaved ice vendor and The Airbrush
Shop; when you purchase from these vendors, a portion of the proceeds benefits
CGS. See some examples of softball helmets decorated by the Air Brush Shop,
and check out the game schedule for Saturday and Sunday.
Safety and Security Update: Safety and security at our fields has greatly
improved with all the attention and volunteers pitching in to ensure our girls have
a safe environment to play. Parents are encouraged to arrive at practices and
games early to walk through the dugouts and stands and help pick up garbage or
remove any potentially dangerous items. Remember: if you witness an
emergency at any time, CALL 911 immediately. If you witness a non-emergency
at any time, CALL 874-5115 immediately (Sheriff non-emergency line). Also –
please do not patronize any of the ice cream trucks that you may see in
Carmichael Park: it is illegal for them to sell within the park, they are disruptive to
the players, and none of them are legally registered with the Parks and Rec
district. Please report any sightings within the park to the non-emergency Sheriff
line.
THANK YOU to our Sponsors: Thank you to our 2015 sponsors and the
Carmichael community for your support! Everyone can help CGS raise more
sponsorship funds this year and in years to come with one simple step: ask the
local businesses that you interact with if they would be interested to sponsor
us! If they are, pass along their contact information to the sponsor chair (Lisa
Fletcher: [email protected]) or to a board member. In the meantime,
please support our existing sponsors! Visit their establishments and thank them
for sponsoring CGS. For Land O Frost, our major sponsor, “click” on their logo on
the CGS website home page. This takes you to their page where you fill in your
name, email address and tell them which area (Sacramento) and which league
(Carmichael Girls Softball) Land O Frost supported. You can download a coupon
and be informed of future special offers. The more people who register under
CGS, the more money Land O Frost will send to CGS in the future! Thanks for
your help!
Last Pitching Clinic of the Year: The last in a long series of our $5 Sunday
pitching clinics will be this Sunday, Apirl 12th from 3-4:30pm. This has been a
tremendous program with wonderful support from our pitching instructors and
parents. All currently registered players are encouraged to join – any level (or no
level!) of experience is welcome. Just bring $5 and your own catcher and meet at
the snack bar (note that the clinic will move to Field 1 this week as the ASA
Spring Series Tournament will be occurring on Field 2).
Player Pools: For players in our 10u (Mini Minor) and 12u (Minor) divisions,
please let your division agents know if you are interested to be part of the
divisional player pool. When teams have less than 9 players available, they will
request a player from the registered pool – availability will be determined by a
rotating list of interested players. This is a great way to get some more playing
time, meet new friends, gain valuable experience and help out the program.
Thanks for all who are currently participating – you’ve already made a huge
impact to our teams!
Thank you for choosing to be part of the CGS community. See you out on the
fields this weekend!
