CHAIR SAYS aka MAJOR’S MUTTERINGS
Hi Midlands, I hope life is treating all of you fantastically and you
are all well
I hope that by now you have all paid your subs, bearing in mind
that National office will strike you from the roll after 1st
November and you will have to re-join; if you have any
difficulties or problems, please contact Noeline and we will sort
them out.
Pedal Car Rally didn’t go too great for us with four punctures in one hour for our ATeam car, we weren’t going to win much but that’s how racing goes. You could have put
all the training in but on race day, if the car fails, then so be it! Congratulations to all our
peddlers for putting in all they had. We did manage second in the “Strong Trophy” for
combined cars. Not too bad considering what happened to our “A” car. I do believe that
we need to re-look our competitive car design
if we want to win, thanks Dereck & Johnny
for taking on the challenge. Congratulations to
Sunshine coast for hosting a fantastic rally (a
record number of 132 vans in Karridene, with
some space) and walking away with the
majority of the silverware. I am sure we will
be back next year to claim some of it back.
What I won’t do for Midlands
Provincial AGM was held on Saturday 4 October and from a Provincial level, we gave
National a few things to think about regarding the future of our beloved club, I will
report back once the National Delegation have finished their visits to all the other
Provinces, We wait in anticipation!! Your province still remains very passionate about
our way forward in promoting / growing CCSA as a whole.
Our current membership stands at 67, let’s try and keep it there. Please, if you have not
yet paid your subs, do so immediately, if you are not paid up by 1 November, head office
will remove your name from the roll and you will have to pay the joining fee again.

If you have misplaced your invoice and are unsure of the amount, then please contact
Noeline. For EFT payments – see banking details elsewhere in the newsletter.
There are a few of our members that are taking on the Amashova Cycle Classic race
from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, good luck, have a safe ride and enjoy. Let me have
your results and we can put them in the next newsletter.
Our next rally is at Beehive, just outside Greytown, over the weekend of 15th – 17th
October, and it is combined with Sunshine Coast where we have challenged them to a
“jukskei” competition, lets show them what we can do! We will be parked down at the
hall, remember to bring your “Black & White” clobber.
Finally congratulations to Don & Bryce Lund of Midlands Caravans & Campworld on
scooping the Dealer of the Year award for 2013 / 2014. Well done guys.
A thought to ponder:

that defines your success”

Cheers for now, safe towing and God willing I’ll see you at Beehive

Rally at Karridene
REPORT – Pedal Car
On our arrival on Wednesday 24th we were one of close to 30 vans that took
advantage of the 5-day weekend. A casual get together of the Midlands early
arrivals turned into a very “geselige” evening enjoying each other’s company.
Thursday dawned with everyone doing their own thing. Friday arrived with the
balance of our members and the rest of the Regions pulling in fast and furious,
setting up and meeting and greeting everyone. However the wind and rain
could not damper the enthusiasm for the weekend. Saturday dawned a rather
overcast day which was a blessing in disguise for the pedalers. Prelims were
held from 10am for the various age groups. Results as follows:

The main endurance race started at 3.00pm which certainly did not go our way
this year. We suffered 4 punctures on the A-team car which put paid to any
chances we had of winning. We managed 25 laps, the same as our B-team
car. Results as follows:

Congratulations and well done to Sunshine Coast on scooping almost all the
awards. To all the Midlands competitors better luck next year.
Everyone awoke on Sunday to grey skies but that did not damper our friendly
circle. Gordon congratulated all the celebrants and did the draw for the
Midlands Caravan & Campworld gift vouchers which were won by Kevin &
Sharon Leonard and Dallas & Tessa King.
Gordon thanked everyone for attending Pedal Car as well as the competitors
for their valiant efforts and wished all a safe tow home.
The rain held off long enough for the main friendlies to take place in the
marquee. Stefan thanked everyone, all 132 caravans, for attending Pedal Car
and making it the success it was. The lucky draws were done after which the
Chairpersons from the various regions conveyed their thanks to Sunshine
Coast for a very well organized event. It was then time to pack up and head for
home.

PRO’S REPORT
Hi Midlands - hope you are all keeping well.
Our sympathy and thoughts are with Delia Ratcliff, whose loving husband for 61
years,Stanley, passed away on the 24th September 2014, who succumbed to
cancer after a brave fight. Stanley was very well known to our older members
as a great fisherman, and a character of note. We pray that our Heavenly
Father will grant Delia and her family strength in the days and months to come.
Unfortunately some of our members are still experiencing poor health.
Please keep Glenda Bennett, Johan Terblanche and Bev Baxter in your
prayers.
Johnny Englebrecht had an appointment with a Physician at Wentworth
Hospital and underwent various tests and is waiting for the results. We trust it
will not be too serious and can be sorted out with medication.
Velente Rawlins was ill with pneumonia. We hope she is much better now and
resting during the school holidays.
Mike Grove-Mitchell is going into hospital on 16th October 2014 to have a
cataract removed and a retina repair. Keep Mike in your prayers. We hope all
goes well with the op and wish him a speedy recovery.
I had a chat to Jean who said that Lindley is much better now after his
operation. Take it easy young man ☺

Well done to you all and may you celebrate many more years together.
Congratulations to Jason McKenzie on passing his trade test as a Tool, Jig and
Die maker. Jason I hope your boss gives you a well-deserved increase.
Tarryn Riley ran a 20 Miler (32 kms) on the new athletic track at the Harry
Gwala stadium in 4 hours 47 min. She has also entered next year’s comrades
marathon together with Rhoda Major and I believe Glynis Driemeyer as well.
Nick Holmes is the grandson of Arthur and Isabelle Mare
and is a member of Rescuetech a Non-Profit Organization
based in KZN. Nick was part of the team that rescued the
puppy Titus, after seven-hours, from an underground
drain in Durban.
Just below the article which appeared in the Natal
Witness of Nick Holmes rescuing Titus, is an article on his
brother Kyle Holmes who has graduated with honors
from DUT’s PMBurg campus and also gained a merit
award to go with his BTech in Civil Engineering.

PS I hope you enjoy the wedding photos of Giselle and Quintus
Scribe’s last say.
Sunshine Coast’s Pedal Car Rally at Karridene has been one of my
most relaxing weekends in a very long time. We turned the weekend into a long weekend by
arriving on the Wednesday only to find plenty of vans already in and set up. We set up and
settled in to what was a wonderful weekend. There were folks who arrived on the Thursday
and the bulk of the ralliers on the Friday. Braai fires were lit and everyone enjoyed a little
“meet and greet” time.
The weather did not exactly play ball. Nevertheless it was a cloudy and cool day for the
competitors for the prelims and endurance race. Congrats to the winners. Some folk
gathered before the main to race to catch a glimpse of the Sharks giving the EP Kings a
thrashing and then later the Springboks giving the Australians a walloping. Well done Sharks
and Springboks.

I believe some folk danced the night away while others chilled and enjoyed each other’s
company.
Sunday arrived all too quickly and the weekend was all but over. Thank you to Naude and
his merry team of faithful helpers for yet again a very successful Pedal Car.
Good luck to all who are doing Amashova. Take care everyone and see you all again soon.
