PREP 2015 TRANSITION TIME
Excitement is starting to build. Now we’re into term 4, there are a
number of opportunities for our enrolled 2015 Preps and their parents
to come along to school and begin to get a taste of school life.
Yesterday, from 2.15pm—3.15pm there was an optional session
which was attended by many families. The children took part in some
planned activities and next Thursday, 23rd October, there will be a
further opportunity to come along and have an hour at school.

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ATHLETICS SUCCESS
Team GK was very competitive at Meadow Glen Aths track again this week and a number
of students will now go on to compete at the forthcoming State championships. A fantastic
outcome! Well done to our competitors who have been doing so well and every best wish
to those students who go on to compete at the next level. Go GK!!
PLANNING FOR 2015
It is that time of the year again when we have to figure out what our enrolment will be
which then determines how many teachers we need and how many classrooms we are
entitled to have etc. Everything is formula driven and everything starts with predicting
what the school’s enrolment is likely to be from the beginning of 2015.
We know how many grade 6 students will be leaving at the end of the 2014. We know
how many preps are enrolled to start school at the beginning of 2015. We know that some
of our students in grade 1 - 5 are moving house, relocating etc. and won’t be attending
GK in 2015. We know that we will have some new students enroling in grades 1 - 6 in
2015 as their families have/are moving into the area. We know what we know BUT … we
don’t know what we don’t know!
Thank you to those parents (other than those in grade 6) who have already let us know if
their child/ren will not be at GK in 2015. If there are families who have yet to tell us of their
changed circumstances for 2015, THEN PLEASE LET US KNOW, IN WRITING, at your
earliest convenience. We need to have our predicted enrolment for 2015 as current and
as accurate as possible so we would be most grateful if parents notified us as soon as
they know of any changes please.
DISCO FUN
A lot of fun was had by a lot of children last Friday night. DJ RayRay had everyone ‘in the
groove’ and moving to the disco beat. Even the Principal was there in disguise with
sparkling hair and mirror ball earrings. Or at least we think it was the Principal! We’re
sorry to hear that some students (and their parents) were disappointed because they had
missed the cut off date for ticket returns. Unfortunately, due to the ‘behind the scenes’
arrangements including finalisation of numbers attending, knowing about children with
special health needs etc. there are no ticket sales at the door on the night of the disco.
We have to have a cut-off point to finalise and confirm arrangements, number of children
attending etc., as we do for all excursion planning, so it pays to keep up with notices,
website info etc. and to make sure that due in dates are met please.

SCHOLASTIC UNCLAIMED ORDER
Last term someone placed quite a large order without a student’s name on the order
slip. This has been paid for but we were unable to give it to your child/children because
we have no name. We are hoping this message might jog someone’s memory that you didn’t receive your delivery. Please contact Astrid or Gail if you think it might be yours.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Catalogues for Issue 7 of Scholastic Book Club were distributed to students this week.
If wishing to place an order, please complete the order form and enclose with payment in an envelope which is clearly labelled “BOOKCLUB” and includes the student’s name and grade.
[Your purchase may be a “surprise” gift. If this is the case, please contact the Library direct].
For credit card payments, please refer to the Scholastic catalogue.
If ordering from more than one catalogue, you can tally them and just make one credit card payment to Scholastic.
Please ensure you record the receipt number on the order form and return to school.
For you reference, it is a good idea to take note of the receipt number.
Orders for this issue close on Friday 24th October 2014

5 WEEK 5 CENT CHALLENGE - WEEK 2
The 5 cent challenge has entered Week 2. What a great effort
from all the grades in the first week of the challenge. Congratulations to 4B for collecting the most coins in Week 1. 4B are currently in posession of the 5 cent TROPHY, will they back it up
this week by collecting the most 5 cent peices?
Continue brining in those loose 5 cent peices to help your grade
climb to the top of the tally board. Individual grade results are
displayed on the PFA noticeboard in the courtyard.
The 5 WEEK 5 CENT CHALLENGE is a fundraising activity initiated by the Parents and Friends Association (PFA). PFA
Fundraising dollars assist with the continual development of GK
both around the grounds and in the classrooms. We intend on
putting these profits towards the purchase of an Electronic Notice Board for Calendonia Drive!
USE OF STUDENT IMAGES IN PUBLICATIONS
E.g. School Magazine, photo displays, Transition Booklet, general promotional information etc.
At GK, we celebrate the efforts of our students by mentioning their participation in school events and their achievements in our school
Linkletter where occasionally, photographs of students are included. We also use photographs of students in some school publications
(eg School Magazine, Transition booklet, promotional information). Photographs of students can also be displayed in classrooms, around
the school, on noticeboards etc. Photographs can also be found on our intranet and website. On the school website, there are images of
students who may or may not be identified by their first name or class.
We allow parents to record special school activities featuring their child (eg starting school, school assembly etc.) as this creates a momento that can be shared with other family members. Video or audio recording is permitted at school under a copyright license paid by
the Department of Education on behalf of all government schools. It is assumed however, that any images or recordings taken by
parents are solely for personal use and are not to be circulated to others or published anywhere.
If a parent has any concerns about how Glen Katherine intends to use student photographs including digital images, then please
contact us to discuss your concerns. If you do not permit your child’s photograph to be published under any circumstances then
please notify your child’s teacher, in writing, stating that you do not give permission for any photos/images of your child to be used
or published in any way.
