PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back. I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday.
Year 11/12 Unit 4 Exams
To all of our year 11 and year 12 students undertaking a Unit 4 VCE study, I wish you ever success in your
last few days of study. Keep up the good work. The October Year 12 exams have now concluded and we
hope that everyone reflects on their results and identifies areas on which to concentrate in order to
maximise performance.
Internationalisation
I would like to thank Mr Morrow and Mrs Grennan for their efforts in promoting the school to our overseas
agents during the term 3 break. We look forward to strong interest in places for our international student
program.
This week the school undertook its reaccreditation as part of the four year cycle to quality assure our
international program. Our reviewer was very pleased by our systems and care and attention to the
students. We look forward to the reviewer’s report in December.
2015 China Tour
Later this year information will be provided about the proposed 2015 visit to our sister schools in China. I
strongly encourage all students from year 7-11 to consider this wonderful opportunity.
2015 Course Selection (Forms Due for Return today)
All current year 7 to 9 students have received and considered their elective choices for 2015. These
selection sheets were due for return today – if you haven’t already done so please return them as a matter
of urgency otherwise you increase the likelihood of not being allocated your preferred subjects as subject
selections will now be processed and the timetable blockings for 2015 developed.
I would like to thank Mr Langdon for all of his dedicated work in bringing this very important process to
fruition.
The Courses team will be interviewing all parents and students to confirm 2015 courses from 25th
November.
Building works
There have been a number of site meetings with the architects, builders and school representatives.
At this stage the library is re loading the books onto shelving. At the last count there were some 600 boxes
of books! The library classrooms L1 and L2 are back in action and Mrs Batrouney our careers coordinator
has now returned to her revitalised office.
The Administration area has now been re carpeted and various roof elements repaired.
Our music area is on track for completion by the start of 2015 school year. Over the holidays the slab for
the new music practise rooms was laid down. Framing will begin next week. The old music and drama
rooms have been stripped inside and once the old ceiling was removed it is amazing how large the space
seems.

DECEMBER PROGRAM – PAYMENT OVERDUE
If you haven’t already informed us, the school needs to know by Friday 24th October whether or not your
child is attending the December Program.
Is your child attending?
Yes - Consent online using Compass Events and manually make the $50 payment to the office
No
- email Deb Gale on Compass or give written notification to the office
REMINDER TO BACKUP ACADEMIC REPORTS
Access to Compass ceases as soon as a student exits the school (including exiting Year 12 students). This
means that on-line access to Academic Reports also stops at the same time.
In order to avoid reprinting fees, it is strongly recommended that families keep a backup of all Academic
Reports.
College Charges 2015 – Additional Payment Mode via Compass
The College will be mailing home shortly to all families information regarding payment of College Charges
for 2015.
For 2015 the College has introduced a further option of paying via the Highvale Compass Portal.
To pay via this method use your parent login and password to access the portal. (Your Account log on and
password will be included on your mailed statement of college charges form). On the right hand side under
my news you will need to click on Course/Confirmation Payment link. From here you will be able to
process your payment. There is an option of paying your charges in full or in two instalments. If you elect
the two instalment method your credit card will be debited for first instalment at the original time of payment
and then automatically debited for the second instalment on the 5th February 2014.
If you process your payment online you do not need to return the Statement of Charges Form.
Payment Direct to College
Please note that you still have the option of returning payment and form to the College Office.
Payment mode accepted at the office is cash, cheque, credit card and EFTPOS.
Online BPAY payment is also available. For BPAY payments your statement of charges form will include
the College’s Biller Code as well as your family reference number. Please retain this information for future
payments.
For all payments to the College General Office including BPAY please ensure you return your Statement of
College Charges Form so that your fee payment can be allocated correctly. Alternatively at time of
payment you may email this information to the College - [email protected].
2015 Year 11 & 12 Student Book Hire and Bond Payment
Year 11 and 12 Headstart Program for 2015 Commences Monday 1st December. All students will need to
pay their book hire and return this year’s current texts prior to collection of 2015 text books. Year 11
Students will also be required to pay their book bond prior to collection as well. Book Bond will be refunded
at the completion of year 12 providing all texts are returned and compulsory charges have been paid.
Payment for this is also available on Compass.

LIBRARY NEWS
The library staff are back in the refurbished library building, however, most of the books are still in boxes
awaiting the installation of additional shelving.
Some borrowing is possible, although the number of books available is small.
Thankyou to all our wonderful 'book storers' who have looked after many of the books. Now is the time to
return them and get them back on the limited shelves we have reinstalled.
Many thanks to all the wonderful students who have moved boxes, unpacked books and equipment,
located equipment, moved furniture and generally volunteered to help in any way possible. You are all
fantastic. We couldn't have done nearly as much without your help.
A very big thankyou to the Anglim family for generously donating books to the library. They will be a great
addition to the collection.
Chess Club
Chess Club is up and running again in L2 - Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes.

YEAR 9 & 10 TOURISM, TRAVEL & SPORT EXCURSION
On Friday 10th and Tuesday 14th of October, Highvale students from the Tourism, Travel and Sport
geography elective enjoyed a day out at some of Melbourne’s top tourist attractions.
First up they were able to explore the National Sports Museum and partake in some games themselves in
the special interactive sports area. Later, they were able to get a new appreciation for the Melbourne
Cricket Ground whilst on a tour of its main features. These included the underground cricket nets, AFL
players’ rooms, press conference room, media rooms and much more. In the afternoon it was off to the
Queen Victoria Market for some much needed lunch and it was great to see several students opting for
market food instead of getting McDonalds…again! After lunch students did very well to survey over 50
members of the general public about their purpose for being at the market and improvements that could be
made to it. They are now in the process of writing up a formal fieldwork report based on the data they
collected on the day.
All the students had a wonderful time and a big thank you must go to Rick Derons, Russell Marshall and
Tom Barton for their assistance on the day!

MUSIC NEWS
At the end of last term, the Senior Band visited the local Highvale Retirement Village to perform for the
residents. This has developed into a regular occurrence, with our students playing there a couple of times a
year.
The Highvale students had a chance to share their music with an appreciative audience. The songs ranged
from golden oldies that the audience knew, such as 'In The Mood' and Bach's 'Air', to the more
contemporary pieces of 'Locked Out Of Heaven' and 'Eye of The Tiger'. Once the performance was over,
the Senior Band enjoyed the afternoon tea supplied and was able to spend some time chatting with the
audience members.
The Highvale students were excellent ambassadors for our school, and they are now looking forward
to their next performance to the students of Highvale Primary School.
