PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Junior school concert
I would like to thank all of the music staff and our wonderful junior performers for the fantastic Junior School
Concert held last Tuesday. I was very pleased by the dedication and enthusiasm of our performers. They
played very well indeed.
I would also like to thank the many ensembles and groups who have taken music into the community at
various local primary schools and the Highvale retirement village. Everyone has been very impressed and
welcoming of your performances.
School maintenance program update
Our Performing Arts space construction continues. The framing for the music practise rooms has now been
completed. Internally, the new ceiling will be installed and the retractable seating has been ordered for
installation in December.
Budget 2015
The School Council Budget working party is currently finalising the 2015 cash budget. This will be
presented to School Council for approval in its November meeting.
I would like to thank all the members of the budget working party for working through revenue and
expenditure requests to formulate a tight balanced budget.
Exams
The VCE Examinations are continuing and from my observations our students are handling the pressure
very well. I certainly look forward to some excellent results.
Year 11 Exams are scheduled for next week. I would like to wish all students all the very best of luck and
encourage them to use their time responsibly in revision and study.
End of Year Program
Arrangements for the Head Start and junior school end of year program are currently being finalised. I
would like to thank Mrs Pearce and Mrs Gale for all of their work in bringing these very important initiatives
together.

Students in Year 8 & 9 should have received their interview times for course confirmation for 2015.

Exams
The Year 7-10 exams have finished, however, students are now working and completing final assessments
and classwork. Best of luck for your results!
Yr 11
The year 11 exams begin Monday November 17th. Students can email or speak to their teachers to assist
with revision before their exam is due. Best of luck!
Acting Yr 11 coordinator
As Rebecca Parker is the acting Student Welfare Coordinator, Ms Amanda Gomes has been appointed
acting Year 11 Coordinator. If you need to speak to her, you will find her in R2, or you can email her via
compass or call the school on 9803 5144.
Art Show
The annual art show will be on November 26th at 6.30pm. It’s such an amazing night where we celebrate
our talented students. Come along and be amazed!!!!
Camp info sessions
The Year 8 and Year 9 camp information sessions will be held in the library (If the venue changes we will
let you know).
Both camps are an excellent opportunity to explore Australia, learn new things in a different setting by
‘doing, experiencing and exploring’ and getting to know staff and students a bit better in a different
environment.

The December program is around the corner. Make sure you have paid and accessed the parent letter

REMINDER TO BACKUP ACADEMIC REPORTS
Access to Compass ceases as soon as a student exits the school (including exiting Year 12 students). This
means that on-line access to Academic Reports also stops at the same time.
In order to avoid reprinting fees, it is strongly recommended that families keep a backup of all Academic
Reports.
SAVE YOUR DATA
All student data on the network will be deleted at the end of the year.
Please save any file, school work, or any other data which you have stored on your U:\ drive or anywhere
else on the network so that you can keep it for future reference. You can save your Data on a removable
drive or USB memory stick.

NEWSLETTER ADVERTISMENTS
If you wish to place an advertisement to sell your child’s uniform, the cost to place an ad in one fortnightly
newsletter is $10. You are required to produce your own advertisement and email it to the school no
later than 3pm on the Thursday prior to the newsletter publication. Payment is required before publication.
College Charges 2015 – Additional Payment Mode via Compass
The College has recently sent an information pack via mail to all families regarding payment of College
Charges for 2015. If you did not receive this could you please contact the College.
For 2015 the College has introduced a further option of paying via the Highvale Compass Portal.
To pay via this method use your parent login and password to access the portal. (Your Account log on and
password will be included on your mailed statement of college charges form). On the right hand side under
my news you will need to click on Course/Confirmation Payment link. From here you will be able to
process your payment. There is an option of paying your charges in full or in two instalments. If you elect
the two instalment method your credit card will be debited for first instalment at the original time of payment
and then automatically debited for the second instalment on the 5th February 2014.
If you process your payment online you do not need to return the Statement of Charges Form.
Payment Direct to College
Please note that you still have the option of returning payment and form to the College Office.
Payment mode accepted at the office is cash, cheque, credit card and EFTPOS.
Online BPAY payment is also available. For BPAY payments your statement of charges form will include
the College’s Biller Code as well as your family reference number. Please retain this information for future
payments.
For all payments to the College General Office including BPAY please ensure you return your Statement of
College Charges Form so that your fee payment can be allocated correctly. Alternatively at time of
payment you may email this information to the College - [email protected].
2015 Year 11 & 12 Student Book Hire and Bond Payment
Year 11 and 12 Headstart Program for 2015 Commences Monday 1 st December. All students will need to
pay their book hire and return this year’s current texts prior to collection of 2015 text books. Year 11
Students will also be required to pay their book bond prior to collection as well. Book Bond will be refunded
at the completion of year 12 providing all texts are returned and compulsory charges have been paid.
Payment for this is also available on Compass.

YEAR 11 LEGAL STUDIES EXCURTION
A couple of weeks ago, the Year 11 Legal
Studies class met at the station and
travelled into the city to visit the Melbourne
Magistrates’ Court.
Upon entering the building we emptied our
pockets to pass through security and we
experienced first-hand what is not allowed
in the court when one student had to leave
his metal ruler with security!
Students adhered to court etiquette by
bowing to the magistrate upon entering and
leaving the courtroom and witnessed a
range of interesting cases, including one
where the defendant was facing 18
charges!
We then moved across the road to the County Court and we were lucky enough to be able to sit in
on some County Court cases. In one court room the judge stopped proceedings to explain to us
what was going on in the trial. The students were very impressed that he took the time to talk to us
and they came away at the end of the day with a much better understanding of court processes
and procedures.

HIGHVALE STUDENT TO THE RESCUE!
FILM FESTIVAL – Wed 19th Nov
Spanning genres from comedy to drama, documentary
to mockumentary and everything in between, the
Highvale Film Festival is an opportunity to see the
great film work produced by Media students at
Highvale.
Featuring films by students from Years 9-12, it will be
an inspiring and entertaining showcase of the work of
our very talented filmmakers.
Come along and vote for the People’s Choice Award.
Other awards for outstanding work will be presented
on the night.
Please note: some work contains coarse language and
adult themes, moderate in impact. Warnings will be
given on the night for these films.
Date: Wednesday 19th November at 6pm in A4 (Ablock classroom). The screening will run for about an
hour, followed by voting and award presentations.

ARTS SHOW – Wed 26th Nov
COMMUNITY TEXTILES PROJECT
Throughout 2014 the Textiles Department has again been producing a range of
pinafores, library bags and art smocks for donation to orphanages overseas. Our
first batch has hopefully been delivered and our second range being modelled
here by Peppa on the left and Hazel on the right are now ready to go. You can
also see these on display at the upcoming Art Show on Wednesday 26th
November at 6.30pm.

LIBRARY NEWS
NEW SHELVING
Exciting news! Many of the library books are still in boxes as we are replacing our old and outdated
shelving with new shelving which will be specially designed and constructed to suit our needs. The new
look library will be more welcoming, comfortable and modern. We are all very excited!
ENGLISH NOVEL AND PLAY SALES
The library will be the venue for the sale of all Year 8 – 12 novels, plays and related study guides. Our local
book distributor, J.P. BOOKS will be selling these on NOVEMBER 27th and NOVEMBER 28th 2014
between 9.00am and 3.00pm. Please be aware that many of the titles will NOT be readily available at your
local book shop.
HEAD START and Book Hire Text return
The Head Start program begins on December 1st so all Year 11 and 12 Book Hire text books need to be
returned to the library by November the 27th.
All other year levels also need to have returned their Book Hire text books by December 1st.

MUSIC NEWS
The last few weeks have been very busy for our Music students. In addition to the successful Junior
Concert held earlier this week, The Senior Band performed at the Highvale Primary School assembly on
Monday afternoon. The repertoire was selected specifically for the youngsters, with 'Eye of the Tiger' and
'Sesame Street' proving to be a hit. Baritone saxophonist and outgoing Senior Music Captain, Jennifer
McCluskey also took to the stage to conduct 'The Flintstones Theme'.
In contrast, last week a group of enthusiastic clarinettists and flautists performed at the Highvale
Retirement Village market day. Students performed solos, duets and larger ensemble items. The sausages
and cans of soft drink were a welcome reward for the performers!
