The renewable resource plastics used in the face and cans meets flammability rating of 1, fire rating of 94HB and can be used with virtually any low voltage, low profile lighting system that does not require a metal can for a heat sink. These letters are not for use with any neon or other lighting system of greater than 24V. Each GemLite Formed Channel Letter comes with an opaque white can approximately 3/4” deep and a corresponding face made from a translucent, LED compatible (built in diffusion) face color. Choosing a system that will properly light your letters and provide consistent, reliable light output are critical in building a sign. While we cannot analyze every LED system, we can give you a few helpful tips that should prevent unnecessary problems from occurring during installation. Recommended Systems For Low Profile GemLite Letters: LED Color: Always match to face material The brightest LEDs used with the wrong face color will not produce a bright sign, while less bright LEDs that are matched to the face color may produce outstanding results. Several other systems worked well with our standard 5" depth injection molded cans and our fabricated metal letters – however only these two passed all our tests for all our products. We noted that there are other systems or models/series that may be better fits for our fabricated and injection molded letter products. Viewing Angle: LED Components At least 150 degrees The single most important consideration for a quality appearance is the lamp viewing angle. Based on the letter depth and face opacity, you want to select a system that will minimize "hot spots". This affects not only face lit letters but halo lit letters as well. The higher the number, the more forgiving your installation will be because the LED light will overlap and create a bright, smooth appearance. UL (Underwriters Laboratories): All three product types listed are available as UR Recognized Components. Our sign bodies (cans or backs) have undergone extensive UL testing and are approved for use on UL Listed signs. Warranty: You get what you pay for LEDs can be purchased for pennies. However, these same LED systems can be largely unreliable and pose numerous installation issues. Be sure to investigate the manufacturer to establish their stability in the market. Usually the legitimate manufacturers have an established warranty period and are sold through sign supply distributors. Ease of Installation: Designed for Signs LED systems are used for many applications, many of which are not for signage. Although these systems can at times be cheaper, because they are designed for other applications, they create installation nightmares.
