NASCAR Legend Richard Petty to Appear Once Again at
Ridgely Car Show By John P. Evans III
Over the last three years, Ridgely Pharmacy owner Brenda Walls has raised
more than $55,000 for charity, including $30,000 in 2013.
Last year, Petty signed 400 autographs at the show. Plans are for him
to sign the same number this time
around. To get an autograph from
Petty, you will need a special wristband. Wristbands will be handed out
beginning at 6 a.m. in front of the
Ridgely Pharmacy until all 400 have
been dispersed.
The money has been raised through the
pharmacy’s annual car show held along
Belle Street in Ridgely.
This year’s Ridgely Pharmacy Car and
Motorcycle Show will be held Sunday,
October 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. along
the west side of Belle Street. Admission
is free of charge.
Walls said she is striving to top last
year’s $30,000 figure.
While that might seem ambitious, Walls
has the King on her side – NASCAR
legend and Hall of Famer Richard “The
King” Petty, that is.
Petty, who holds the lifetime wins record on NASCAR’s senior circuit with
200, is returning for a second year to
sign autographs and mingle with fans.
Petty attended last year’s show after
Walls decided to donate the proceeds
from the event to the Petty Family
Foundation and has committed to re-

Walls said the show started with
about 100 cars and a few vendors.
Last year, 603 cars entered the car
show and more than 6,000 people
attended.
turning again this year.
One hundred percent of the funds
raised goes directly to the Petty Family
Foundation.
The Petty Family Foundation includes
the Victory Junction Camp, The Folds
of Honor Foundation and the Wounded
Warrior Foundation. For information
on each of these charities, go to the Petty Family Foundation web site at www.
pettyfamilyfoundation.com.
“He is an amazing person, very down to
earth and genuine,” Walls said of Richard Petty, who is still active in NASCAR
as the head of Petty Motorsports. “The
foundation benefits some great causes.”
Walls, a car show enthusiast and the
owner with her husband of several
“show cars,” first met Petty and other
members of his family after hearing
through a friend of the work their foundation was doing.
She travelled to the Petty family homestead in Randleman, North Carolina
and spoke about her car show and her
search for charities to donate the car
show proceds to.
“I went down there and told them what
we do and that we wanted to donate the
proceeds of our second show to them,”
said Walls. “After they saw how well we
did the second year of the show (the first
sponsoring the Petty foundation), Richard offered to appear at the next year’s
show and sign autographs, which of
course was a great addition.”
“There is no doubt that attendance has
increased because of his appearance,”
said Walls. “His name means a lot to car
enthusiasts, especially NASCAR fans.”
Ninety prizes are awarded for the car
show, which is judged by official judges
rather than the vote of those who attend.
“We had entrants come from as far
north as Maine, as far west as Indiana
and as far south as Florida,” said Walls.
Walls said that while Richard Petty’s appearance generally gets the most attention, there are many other attractions
that will be on display.
Besides the car show, which Walls said
will features cars of all colors, engine
sizes and styles, the “General Lee’ car
from the Dukes of Hazzard show will be
on hand.
Also on display for the first time this
year will be two new items from the
Petty Family history, a Number 43 Superbird car usually on display in the
Petty Museum is being brought to the
show, as well as the Petty’s Garage Performance Tour, which offers car enthusiasts a chance to view a sample of the
unique vehicles and projects that have
been produced by the experts at Petty’s
Garage.
The Batmobile will also be on display for
the first time as well, along with Jump
Car 6 from the Dukes of Hazzard show.
Walls added that even if fancy cars aren’t
your thing, there will be many vendors,
displays and children-oriented games
on hand. Among those offerings will be
a Moon Bounce, a giant train display
and the Rescue Ponies group.
“The show has far exceeded what I ever
imagined. Every day something else
gets added,” she said. “I have worked
very hard to make the show one of the
best out there. It’s a great event and it’s
not just a car and motorcycle show.”
There will also be five bands performing
all genres of music throughout the day.
“It warms our heart to be able to raise
money to help the foundation,” Walls
added.
Registration is still open for the car and
motorcycle show at $15 per entry before
Oct. 1 and $20 on the day of the show.
Vendor space is also still available.
To register for either one, go to the
show’s web site at ridgelycarshows.com.

Christ Church to
Celebrate 140th
Anniversary
town. Led by the efforts of the Rev. Dr.
Edward J. Stearns, who was appointed
rector in 1871, funds were secured and a
church was built on Gay Street in downtown Denton.
Built in 1874, Christ Episcopal Church
is the only remaining Episcopal Church
in Caroline County with an active congregation. The community is invited
to a special program on October 11 to
celebrate the 140th anniversary of the
dedication of Christ Church.
Today, the church remains at the same
location. Major renovations were done
in the 1920’s, which brought leaded glass
windows, new lighting, and a new heat
system to the building. In 1933, a parish
hall was added. In 1959 Sunday School
rooms and a new kitchen were added.
The church holds services every Sunday
and in many ways functions exactly the
same as it did in 1874, although perhaps
more comfortably.
Built less than a decade after the end of
the civil war, the small gothic building
behind the courthouse green in Denton
has withstood the turn of two centuries, the introduction of gas and electric
lighting, two World Wars, the Great Depression and economic downturns, renovations and expansions, political shifts
and the dramatically changing world of
communication and technology. However, in many ways, it remains the same
as it has always been – small but vibrant,
filled with dedicated people of faith, and
hopeful for the future of the church and
the community it serves.
Original minutes from early vestry
meetings indicate that from its very
beginnings, Christ Church Denton has
sought to grow and remain a strong
presence in Caroline County. The challenges the parishioners faced in the
1870’s were no different than the ones
the church faces today, such as limited
membership, tight finances, building
repairs that need to be done, and the
need for volunteers to offer their time to
committees and ministries.
Early vestry members in the 1870’s
were the movers and shakers of Caroline County, with names like Horsey,
Wright, Russum, Goldsborough, Towers
and Breeding. These are names still seen
today in Caroline County. The families
that built and sustained the church were
the leaders, businessmen, skilled laborers and hard workers of the community,
along with their wives and children.
Following the Revolutionary War there
was a steep decline in Episcopal Church
membership, which was associated with
the Church of England. Although St.
Mary’s Whitechapel Parish was established in 1725, it wasn’t until 1870 that
the community of Denton rallied to
build a Protestant Episcopal Church in
10
of history in Caroline County on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1 pm. Tour the
church, view our historic artifacts, learn
a little about the history of the gothic
church with the red door, and enjoy the
fellowship of the congregation. Special
guest speaker J.O.K. Walsh will take us
back to Caroline County circa 1874 and
give a presentation on life in our community 140 years ago. Refreshments
and presentation provided following the
re-dedication service at 1 pm.
All are invited to celebrate this historic
day. The church is located at 105 Gay
Street, Denton, MD 21629. For more
information, please call 410-479-0419.

Dig Pink Volleyball Rally
On Tuesday, October 14th the NCHS Lady Bulldog Volleyball team will be hosting a “Dig Pink” National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally against county rival, Colonel Richardson
High School. This is North Caroline’s 7th annual volleyball
rally and the funds raised by the rally this year will go to the
Side-Out Foundation whose goal is to make a significant and
identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and
their families. Last year’s event raised $2,600. The term sideout refers to a situation in volleyball when one team wins a
point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or
control of play. It is hoped that the Side-Out Foundation will
do the same for breast cancer patients, providing them with
support and best available treatments to regain control of their
lives.
The event will start at 4 p.m. with the J.V. game followed by
the varsity game. We thank our sponsors and are pleased to
announce them; Strawberry Blonde, Smith Landing Photo
Booth, Tri Gas & Oil, Preston Automotive, and Knott’s Towing. There will also be concessions, a baked goods table, Caroline County Health Department information table, pink hair
extensions, photo booth, serving competition, raffle items,
50/50 raffle, and a donation jar available. You are invited to
come and participate in this fun event while helping to raise
awareness and funds for a good cause. Check out the NCHS
Volleyball page on Facebook for more info.
Dig-Pink t-shirts are available now for sale prior to the volleyball rally. Contact Brenda Biddle for more information 410924-3911 [email protected].

What is Your Best Interest Rate?
From time to time I will get a phone
call from someone who will immediately ask me, “What is your best interest
rate”? Actually expecting me to spit out
a number as if mortgage rates are the
same as buying a pound of hamburger
at the supermarket. I wish interest rates
were as easy as buying a pound of hamburger.
Interest rates will vary based on the term
of repayment, credit scores, whether the
rate is fixed or adjustable and the loan
to value.
The term of repayment is the period of
time it will take to pay the loan in full
in increments of 5 years. The shortest
term most secondary market lenders
will consider is 10 years and the longest
term is 30 years, although some lenders
have considered doing mortgages with
40 year terms. These 40 year loans have
proven to be rather unpopular in most
areas of the country although they are
used in lieu of interest only loans that all
but went away with the mortgage crisis
of 2008. As far as rates on various terms
are concerned the shorter the repayment term, the lower the rate.
Mortgages with interest rates that are
fixed for the duration of the term will
be higher than loans where the rate will
adjust at some time in the future. From
a lenders perspective when you ask
them to fix the rate for a specified term
there is a risk that interest rates may rise
while the rate on the loan you are paying remains the same. So, if the rate you
are paying is 4.5% but rates rise 5 years
from now to 6% the lender is getting
1.5% less than they could if they had
those funds to lend.
If you as a consumer are willing to take
on some of the risk of interest rates rising with the lender by agreeing to let the
lender reset the rate at some point in
time in the future than the lender is willing to accept a rate less than the rate on
a fixed rate loan. These Adjustable rate
loans are calculated on terms of 15 to 30
years, with the most popular term being
30 years. They are also very popular and
advisable for borrowers who know they
will be paying the loan in full before the
first adjustment occurs.
The time of the first adjustment can vary
from 1 year to 3 or 5 years, and every
1, 3 or 5 years thereafter. A hybrid adjustable rate loan is basically a 1 year
adjustable rate mortgage where the first

adjustment occurs in year 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10
and every year thereafter. You will see
these adjustable rate loans advertised as
3/1 ARMS, 5/1 ARMS, 7/1 ARMS etc.
Loan to Value, (LTV) is the proposed
loan amount as a percentage of the value of the property. If the value of the
home is $100,000 and the amount of the
loan is $80,000 then the Loan to Value
(LTV) is 80%. In some cases, depending
on whether the loan is for a purchase or
refinance, the higher the loan to value
the higher the interest rate.
Loan to Value is not usually a factor influencing interest rates on government
loans such as FHA, VA, and Rural Development. But it is a factor in determining interest rates on conventional
loans.
Basically a conventional loan is a loan
that is not in some way insured by a
government agency like FHA, VA or
Rural Development. They are usually securitized through Fannie Mae or
Freddie Mac.
When purchasing a home and financing
it with a conventional loan the lower the
loan to value, or the higher the down
payment, the lower the rate may be.
The difference in rate may be as little
as 1/8th of a percent if you have higher
credit scores, or it may be as much as
3/8th of a percent if the credit scores are
lower.
When refinancing to a conventional
loan the rate will be greatly influenced
based upon whether it is a rate and term
refinance or a cash out refinance. The
difference between the two types of refinances depends on whether you are just
refinancing enough to pay off your existing mortgage plus closing costs, thus
a Rate and Term Refinance, or, you are
borrowing more than the amount to pay
off existing mortgage plus closing costs
by borrowing additional cash out, thus a
Cash Out Refinance.
The impact of lower credit scores, higher loan to value and cash out vs. rate and
term are the biggest variables influencing the interest rate you may pay when
refinancing.
Many borrowers have been disappointed to find that the rate they would pay
on their refinance is ½% higher because
of their credit scores, and the loan to
value, and the fact they are borrowing
more than the balance on their mortgage in order to get cash to pay off other
debt, pay college expenses or get funds
for home improvement.
When considering the variables influencing interest rates and trying to determine what program works best, you
need to consider what you have to pay
in upfront fees in order to secure that
interest rate.
Points are basically an upfront fee that
you pay in order to induce the lender to
lower your interest rate. A point equals
1 percent of the amount you are borrowing and is paid in full at closing.

I say “not really, because there is a
strong probability that you will not have
this loan for 30 years and even if you do,
you will probably refinance and pay it
off with another loan for some reason.
And if you are familiar with the rule of
72 regarding the compounding of interest, your $1,000 will turn into $6,000
over 30 years at a rate of 6%.
So, to summarize, when calling about
interest rates be prepared to answer
some questions before you are quoted
a rate. And be especially cautious when
considering rates that you are given by

If you are quoted 4.25% for a 30 year rate
with 0 points the principal and interest
payment on $100,000 loan is $491.94. If
you paid 1 point, $1,000 the rate would
be reduced to 4% and the principal and
interest payment would drop to $477.42,
a savings of $14.52. To determine if the
juice is worth the squeeze, or the cost
justifies the benefit you divide $14.52
into $1,000 and find that it will take 69
months to get your $1,000 back through
savings of $14.52 per month.
Most people will say, “Great, then for
the remaining 289 months I am saving
a total of $14.52 times 289 months, or
$4,196.28, a great return on my $1,000
investment”.

FACES Quilt Documentation Project
Thursday, October 30th, 3 PM - 8 PM,
Easton Fire Hall, 315 Aurora Park Dr.
The public is invited to register to receive a written and photographic record of their antique (pre-1950) quilts.
This documentation requires about 30
minutes per quilt for measuring, photographing, dating fabric, identifying
patterns, and recording the quilt history. FACES will maintain this information in a database to help preserve the
legacy of quilt making, recognize its
heritage, and share its story. Every quilt
will be given a documentation tag, and
quilt owners will be able to access their
information on the website via an identification number. Quilt values will not
be appraised and pre-registration is recommended in order to avoid a long wait
time. Walk-ins will be accommodated
as time allows. A $5 donation per quilt is
being requested. For more information
and to register visit www.fiberartscenter.com/quilt-documentation-project/.

Location: Tuckahoe State Park gazebo
on the Caroline County side of the lake.
This is a joint event with Tuckahoe State
Park. It will run all day from dawn to
dusk and perhaps into the evening for
some owling. The Big Sit! is an annual,
international, noncompetitive birding
event hosted by Bird Watcher’s Digest
and founded by the New Haven (Connecticut) Bird Club. Every year, bird
watchers from around the globe unite
on this special day by participating in
this free event!
The object is to tally as many bird species as can be seen or heard within 24
hours. The only rule is that there is a
17 foot diameter area limitation from
which you may observe. Any bird seen
or heard from our designated area will
be counted. We will have team leaders
stationed at the gazebo during the day
and will have our 17 foot diameter set.
The Big Sit! is open to the public. Come
with binoculars and spotting scope if
you have them. You might want to bring
a chair as well and refreshments.

This year in the USA it is estimated that
295,240 women will be diagnosed with
breast cancer. 40,000 women will die
from breast cancer.
1.It is time to take action and be
breast health aware. Ladies,
The Susan G. Komen for the
Cure recommends that you:
2.Know your risk by learning about
your family health history and
talk to your health care provider about your personal risk.
4.Know what is normal for you.
Know how your breasts look
and feel and report any changes
to your health care provider.
Make healthy lifestyle changes by getting to and maintaining a healthy
weight, add exercise to your daily routine, limit alcohol intake, limit menopausal hormone use, breastfeed if you
are able.
Taking care of your personal health is
important. Taking care of your community and beyond is also valuable!

About National Lead
Poisoning Prevention Week
Submitted By: Elaine Cowgill,
Caroline County Health Department
Immunization & Lead Outreach
October 19-25 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. This year’s theme
is “Lead-Free Kids for a Healthy Future.”
Childhood lead poisoning is considered
the most preventable environmental
disease of young children. Approximately half a million U.S. children ages
1-5 have blood lead levels above the
reference value at which CDC recommends public health actions be initiated. National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week occurs every year during the
last full week in October. During National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week,
CDC aims to:
• Raise awareness about
lead poisoning;
• Stress the importance of screening the highest risk children
younger than 6 years of age
(preferably by ages 1 and 2) if
they have not been tested yet;
• Highlight partner’s efforts to prevent childhood lead poisoning; and
• Urge people to take steps to
reduce lead exposure.
Every year, CDC, in partnership with
the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) and the Department
of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD), develops posters in observance
of National Lead Poisoning Prevention
Week (NLPPW).

• CDC has recently updated its
recommendations on children’s blood lead levels.
• By shifting our focus to primary
prevention of lead exposure, we
can reduce or eliminate dangerous
lead sources in children’s environments before they are exposed.
• What has not changed is the
recommendation for when to use
medical treatment for children.
Experts recommend chelation
therapy when a child is found
with a test result of greater than
or equal to 45 micrograms per
deciliter of lead in blood.
• Though lead can be found in many
sources, lead exposure is entirely
preventable. The key is stopping
35
• children from coming into contact
with lead and treating children
who have been poisoned by lead.
Parents can take simple steps to
make their homes more lead-safe.
• Children can be given a blood
test to measure the level of lead
in their blood. Talk to your
child’s doctor if you are concerned about lead exposure.
Protecting children from exposure
to lead is important to livelong good
health. No safe blood lead level in children has been identified. Even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to
affect IQ, ability to pay attention and
academic achievement. And effects of
lead exposure cannot be corrected. The
most important step parents, doctors
and others can take is to prevent lead
exposure before it occurs.
Update on Blood Lead Levels in Children
• Experts now use a reference level
of 5 micrograms per deciliter to
identify children with blood lead
levels that are much higher than
most children’s levels. This new
level is based on the U.S. population of children ages 1-5 years who
are in the highest 2.5% of children
when tested for lead in their blood.
• Until recently, children were identified as having a blood lead “level
of concern” if the test result is 10
or more micrograms per deciliter
of lead in blood. CDC is no longer
using the term “level of concern”
and is instead using the reference
value to identify children who
have been exposed to lead and
who require case management.
• In the past, blood lead tests below
10 micrograms per deciliter of lead
in blood may, or may not, have
been reported to parents. The
new lower value means that more
children will likely be identified
as having lead exposure allowing
parents, doctors, public health
officials and communities to
take action earlier to reduce the
child’s future exposure to lead.
• What has not changed is the recommendation for when medical

Dealing With Difficult
People During the
Holidays
How do you endure six weeks of excess—an overtaxed schedule, strained
finances, unrealistic expectations and
people with whom you wouldn’t ordinarily ask to lunch?
Easton therapist and author Loriann
Oberlin will tackle the topic with movie
clips, a Q&A session, and book signing on Monday, November 3rd at the
Queen Anne’s County Library in Centreville. Her presentation begins at 7 PM
at 121 S. Commerce Street, Centreville.
Ms. Oberlin co-wrote Overcoming Passive-Aggression and The Angry Child
and has been quoted nationally on the
topic of anger. She also wrote Surviving Separation and Divorce. Oberlin
will address how to survive the holiday
season, ward off mistakes, manage emotions so that they don’t get the better of
you, and communicate boundaries and
wishes effectively.
A resident of Queen Anne’s County, she
works primarily in Easton seeing children, adolescents, adult individuals and
families. She also has Gottman Couples
Therapy training. “After New Year’s people often reach out for help,” Oberlin reports. “Frequently, hurt feelings that festered during the prior year and blew up
over the holidays come to the forefront.
I can equip couples and individuals with
tools to resolve that frustration—tools
that will foster self-awareness and improved relationships throughout life, at
home and at work.”
She is a member of the Eastern Shore
Writers Association, has served on the
conference planning committee, and
will speak about the creative spirit at the
group’s February 2015 event. Her tenth
book is a contemporary romance novel
Letting Go: Book One of The Maryland
Shores (under pen name Lauren Monroe). It will be on sale with other books
after her remarks. Books can be signed
for gifts and credit cards will be accepted. For directions to the Queen Anne’s
County Library in Centreville, call 410758-0980.

milkweed plant. We’ll look for milkweed pods in the meadow, make a butterfly craft and enjoy butterfly books
with our snack.

search for signs of fall. In the classroom,
we’ll make berry bracelets and snack on
heart-shaped cookies.
Pumpkin Party

shakers. Then we’ll wiggle and twist to
the Pumpkin Polka!

Stellalunas? We’ll learn the science behind the world’s only flying mammal,

navigating the meadow bat-style. We’ll
also make batty Halloween decorations
and celebrate with a holiday-themed
snack and story.
Nuts for Squirrels

Are you nuts for squirrels? We’ll explore
the world of these furry cuties on a forest scavenger hunt and return to the
classroom for acorn stories and nutty
snacks. A squirrel napkin ring craft will
round out this fun-filled morning.
Scouts and Maidens
November 11
Who were the first people to live on the
Eastern Shore? Let’s visit the Paw Paw
Playground wigwams to find out! We’ll
play a Native American corn game, collect sticks for a pretend campfire and
craft a Native American centerpiece for
the Thanksgiving table.
The Science of Weather for
Homeschool Students
What’s the difference between weather
and climate? How is weather measured
and predicted? What are scientists saying about climate change? This fall,
homeschool students will find the answers to these questions and more when
Adkins Arboretum offers The Science
of Weather for Homeschool Students,
a series that immerses students in the
fields of meteorology and climatology.
Students will explore weather instruments, air masses and fronts, weather
maps, cloud formation, temperature,
atmosphere, climate zones and severe
weather. Along the way, they will practice broader science skills, including ob-
servation, experimentation, description
and measurement.

St. Martin’s Ministries
Host Dinner and
Auction
Friday, October 10
Saint Martin’s Ministries will host their
9th Annual Arts Dinner and Auction
with Nationally/Internationally recognized Quiltmaker Joyce Murrin as their
Featured Artist.
In the past the Saint Martin’s Ministries’
Arts Dinner and Auction has been successful, as well as full of surprises and
this year will be no exception. Although
they are not telling what is in store this
year, attendees are sure to be amazed
and all for a good cause. Every year
many talented local artists generously
contribute a piece of their skillful artwork to be auctioned off during the live
or silent auction with proceeds going to
Saint Martin’s Ministries.
“A Swanky Night at the Speakeasy…
Arts Undercover” is the theme of this
year’s Arts Dinner and Auction that is to
take place on Friday, October 10, 2014
at The Chesapeake Room in Rock Hall.
“Spring has Sprung,” a one-of- a-kind,
hand appliquéd, hand sewn art quilt
by Joyce Murrin will be the featured
live auction item. Joyce is a self-taught
quiltmaker born with God-given talent,
creative genes and artistic vision. She
is nationally and internationally recognized with quilts in numerous private
and museum collections.
Her designs are original, drawn full
scale on paper, then sewn in cloth.
Whether the design is a pieced abstract,
subject inspired by nature or one with
free flowing lines done in appliqué, the
design is used only once, making each
quilt truly one-of-a-kind.
For 30 years, Joyce’s colorful quilts have

Vote for Responsible
Constitutional Leadership
Submitted by United Support Alliance
If Democrats win big in November by holding the Senate and
re-taking the House our Republic will die.
A sweeping Democrat victory in this November midterm elections can only spell doom for freedom loving people across
this nation. If Democrats re-take the House of Representatives
and hold on to the senate, then Barack Obama will have exactly what he needs to finish the “fundamental transformation”
of this country.
A Democrat victory would also ensure “immigration reform”
aka amnesty for 30 million illegal aliens and with that we
would see the virtual end to any electoral chances in the future
for Conservatives.
Ever since the 2010 elections, when Republicans won the
House, we’ve seen a polarization of not just political parties,
but ideology as well. The Democrat Party has gone so far to the
left, they don’t resemble the DNC of just 30 years ago. They’ve
taken “liberalism” and blown it up into something that doesn’t
even resemble what true liberalism is anymore. In fact, the
majority of Democrats want “government” to encompass every aspect of our lives. They want a virtual plethora of rules
and regulations that govern the individual from the moment
we wake, till the moment we close our eyes to go to sleep. It’s
truly scary just how much control the Democrats want over
our lives.
Our government has caused the citizens of our country to become more divided than any other time in our history, citing
racist and hate driven rhetoric and propaganda.
The nation’s economy is on the brink of collapse with an unsustainable deficit.
Our children are being educated under “Common Core” in
our public school system, which was designed by our government as mind manipulation and taking away the rights of the
parents. This is the reason “Home Schooling” is under attack.
High ranking military leadership have been retired, released
or forced out of the ranks thus putting our soldiers at greater
risk, without the wisdom, experience and knowledge those
leaders could contribute, reducing our military to its weakest
point in history. This is no accident, it is their agenda of a U.N.
take-over.
Right now, there are several law enforcement agencies that have
solicited for and received arms, ammunition, and, in some cases, armored vehicles that have no reason having hardware like
that. The federal government is “bulking-up” and getting ready
for some really big event. Do they know something we don’t?
That’s kind of scary all by itself. It’s like the government is getting ready for a hostile takeover.
Can you imagine what would happen if both the House and
the Senate were under Democrat control? Obama would have
carte blanche on whatever harebrained scheme he wanted to
pull off. And if that were the case, there would be absolutely
nothing you or I could do about it because it would legal because it was passed by both houses of Congress.
For instance, can you imagine what Dianne Feinstein would
do if she knew she had the votes to pass a gun legislation bill?
Or what about the left’s obsession with man-made global
warming? Or make changes within the “United States Constitution” and eliminate the “Bill of Rights”, thus taking away all
of our rights!
All we have gotten from Barack Obama for six years is rhetoric and ideology, not solutions to the many problems that this
nation faces. There are too many instances that have gone by,
where he could have done something to actually fix some of
the many problems we have right now. Instead, we got feigned
outrage and too many promises to get to the bottom of things.
Right now (once again) there are more problems outside the
United States and our president just can’t seem to make up his
mind as to what he will do about it.
One thing is certain though, when Obama had both houses
of Congress, he passed the single most un-popular piece of
legislation in history next to prohibition, the Affordable Care
Act. And since that law was passed he has made several illegal
“fixes” to it. One of the most crucial parts of that law, the Employer Mandate that was delayed by executive action, will hit
the American people right after the midterm elections. And if
you thought the roll-out was a mess ....just wait.
Millions more will lose their insurance and be dumped onto
the government exchanges. And while all this is going on,
democrats like Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid
have been enriching themselves with tax payer money. It’s almost like they don’t even care that we know they are robbing
us blind.
A sweeping Democrat victory in November would be the final
nail in the coffin for this nation and the Republic would be
forever lost....We can’t let that happen.
Vote for responsible Constitutional Leadership who will defend, protect and uphold the United States Constitution and
the Bill of Rights!

Seek Support for
“Fuel Up To Play 60”
The Ridgely Lions Club in cooperation
with the Ridgely Elementary PTA are
seeking partners to help support the
“Fuel Up to Play 60” program at Ridgely
Elementary School. “Fuel Up to Play 60”
is a program founded by the National
Dairy Council and NFL, in collaboration with US Dept. Of Agriculture, that
empowers students to take charge in
making small, everyday changes in their
lives at home and school. Students can
win cool prizes for choosing good-foryou foods and getting active for at least
60 minutes every day. See http://www.
fueluptoplay60.com/ for more info.
This is the third year of participation
in the “Fuel Up to Play 60” program at
Ridgely Elementary and the Ridgely Lions would like to continue and expand
the support of the program. Last school
year 33 donors sponsored 42 boxes of
fruit. Our goal for 2014-15 is to donate
50+ boxes of fruit.
So the Lions and the PTA are looking
for local businesses, organizations, and
individuals to sponsor boxes of fruit
(oranges, apples, tangerines, bananas,
berries) that will be used to supplement student breakfasts and lunches
from October 2014 through May 2015
at Ridgely Elementary School. Fruit will
be delivered to the school once a month

All dogs are welcome to join in the attempt. If the current record

per handler. Preregistration is $25 and is strongly encouraged.
The Guinness World Record attempt, sponsored by Hair O’

it into the organization’s major annual fundraiser and a significant community event, according to Crankshaw-Quimby.

CASA of Caroline, Inc. Hires New
Executive Director
a child, together we can touch lives forever.
CASA of Caroline is pleased to announce the appointment of
Carol Parks, LCSW-C, as Executive Director. Ms. Parks recently retired from the State of Maryland after 34 ½ years of
employment. Her experience includes Child Protective Services and Foster Care.
If you have a few hours a month to give to a child in need and
are interested in becoming a volunteer advocate, please call
410-479-8301 for your application today. New training class is
forming for October 2014.
Open house is planned for October 2, from 4 PM to 5:30 PM.
Light refreshments available, all are welcome.
Ms. Parks bring a passion for her new position as Executive
Director and they that are served. With Ms. Parks experience,
she brings knowledge and skills that can help CASA reach its
goal of having an advocate ready and available for each child
in the Foster Care System.
CASA of Caroline is looking for volunteers to work as advocates to give the children in the Foster Care System of Caroline
County a powerful voice.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in the foster care system. CASA’s are adult volunteers
trained to advocate for abused and neglected children in the
juvenile court system. Each child that is removed from their
parent’s home at no fault of their own is involved in a lengthy
court process, which is often scary and confusing for the child.
Having a CASA volunteer available to work with all parties
involved can provide stability in the child’s life during such a
difficult time.
CASA’s are everyday citizens, men and woman over the age
of 21 who want to help children in their community, have a
variety of backgrounds, are young and old, working or retired.
CASA volunteers are trained to be the eyes and ears of the
court and give a voice to every child in the foster care system.
