meeting,CarolSchmid,attendedasa
guest.Itwaschockfullofgoodideas
fromotherclubPresidents.TheMullica
HillWoman’sClubthankedusforthedonationsofwhitesocksforsoldiers.

communities,ourstate,ourcountry,
andtheworld.Thefederation’sheadquartersbuildingislocatedonthe
DouglassCollegecampusinNew
Brunswick.The50thAnniversaryof
theheadquartersbuildingwillbe
celebratedin2015.
From1894-1900thefederationwas
virtually“homeless”withtheBoard
ofDirectorsmeetinginthehomesof
variousboardmembers.Importantfederationrecordsandequipmentwere
carriedfrommeetingtomeeting.The
Boardmetinarentedspaceforthenext
nineyears.In1919aroomwasrentedin
theYWCAbuildinginNewarkfor$200
peryear.Thisroombecamethefederation’shomeforthenextfortyyears.
TheNJSFWCwas“evicted”fromthe
YWCAbythebuilding’sowner,Rutgers
University,in1959.Theexpandingfederationneededalargerandmorepermanentlocation.NJSFWC’snewpresident,Mrs.LeveniaTaylor,presentedthe
primaryprojectofheradministration—
tobuildafederationheadquarters—
duringheracceptancespeechonMay
15,1964.
TheHeadquartersCommitteebegan
workto indalocation,anarchitect,contractors,andtoraisefundstobuilda
permanenthomeforthefederation.One
fundraisingprojectwastheTrading
StampProgram.DoyouremembercollectingS&HGreenStamps,PlaidStamps,
Merchants’GreenStampsandTripleSBlueTradingStamps?Forty-fourthousandclubwomencontributedonebook
oftradingstampsortheequivalentof
$2.00towardtheconstruction.The
buildingwascompletedin1966.
Thepropertyunderthebuildingisnot
ownedbythefederation.Thelandis
leasedfromRutgersUniversity
throughalandleasewhichisrenewableeverytenyears.Theleasewillbe
re-negotiatedduringtheadministration
ofNJSFWCPresidentJillPassaretti.The

The mee ng was called to Order by President, Nancy Barna at 7:06 p.m.
The Collect for Club women was led by Kim
V-C.
Kaylin Moulton, one of our GCI delegates,
read a le er from Ali Alt which detailed
Ali’s experience at June’s Girls’ Career Ins tute on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers
University. Then Kaylin gave a brief summary of her experiences which she loved.
In fact, she wants to go to College at Rutgers and stay in the same dorm! A er her
summary, she answered ques ons.
Then, the moms of our scholarship winners, Jodi Purvenas (T. J.) and Michelle
Bird (Jaclyn) told us about their children
and how they are adjus ng to college.
Jaclyn is a ending Rutgers and is studying
Pre-veterinary medicine. T. J. is a ending
GCC and is majoring in Business.
June minutes were approved as printed.
Corresponding Secretary, Doris Eith, reported that Linda Jones is in rehab.
Chris Taylor reported that the Raﬄe Account has a balance of $2966.79 as of September 9, 2014. Pa y Wyzykowski reported that the Primary account has a balance
of $4468.59. The treasurers’ reports were
approved and filed.
Second Vice President, Carol Frisby, welcomed the visitors, Jodi Purvenas, Michelle
Bird, and Carol Schmid. She then conducted a Trivia Contest. Carol asked for suggesons or ideas for the club. Carol pointed
out a new Sugges ons box in the front of
the room.
Federa on Secretary, Joan Baur, announced that September Council would be
held on September 18th. The cost would
be $3.00. Anyone who wanted to go
should contact Joan. A carpool would be
arranged. They are collec ng bo le caps
and white or black socks for soldiers. State
Fall Conference is Monday, October 20th in
Somerset, NJ. The cost is $40 and the Program will be Community Service Program
chairmen; Special State Project NAMI NJ;
The Keynote speaker: Dr. Gregory Olsen
(Ci zen in Space). Reserva on Deadline is
Oct. 10th. Joan also gave some Federa on
History.
President’s Report, Nancy Barna: Nancy
thanked the en re club for backpacks and all
the summer volunteer hours. The Lunch Box
Program packed 8,345 lunchboxes. Nancy
reported on the Board Mee ng and the Bingo Commi ee mee ng. The next mee ng
will be near the end of September. She commented on the success of the online vo ng
which approved the revision of the By-laws.
Judy Fish will be moving to Central Jersey in
January and we need a new Educa on Chair.
Sandy Mastrangelo is the new chair. The September Garden District Mee ng will be

walk on September 21st. SERV program receives the money raised.
Educa on: Judy Fish announced that this
month is Library Month. She suggested that
anyone who didn’t have one should get a library card. The Friends of the Library need
hardback fic on. Judy announced that we
would be choosing people for the educa on
commi ee next month. She also announced
a program at the library, Peachy-Keen, with
guest speaker on peaches.

Internal Fundraiser: Louise M. announced
the mum sale order and pick up informa on.
Good News: Cathy Nahas is going to be on
the library advisory board. Congratula ons
to Chris Taylor who has been selected as
Woman of Achievement. There will be a
dinner on October 23rd.
Joan B. reported that the Adopt a Road signs
are up on Riverwinds Drive and parts of Delaware Street.
Joan Baur announced that she has Boscov’s
discount cards to raise money for the Lunch
Box Program. Cards are $5.00 and the discount shopping day is October 21st.
Jeanne e announced that she has purchased laundry detergent and wipes for
Family Promise. She showed a duﬄe bag
needed by the families. It is $25 at K-Mart.
Denise Pitchford announced a new idea for
Social/Entertainment for October: a canvas
oil pain ng night. We would need eight to
ten members to hold the event. We would
all paint the same pain ng. A sheet was
passed around for sign-up and to pick the
night.
Clara Campbell announced that this Sunday,
September 14th there would be a yard sale
at her house. Dona ons going to CHOP.
Drop any dona ons oﬀ this week.
The raﬄe was won by Pa y W.
Mee ng was adjourned at 8:25.
