youcare.Thatisoneofthebene itsof
beingamemberofoneofthebestkept
secretsaround,theGFWCWoman'sClub
ofWestDeptford.
JohnandIhadour irstdateonValentine'sDaymanyyearsago.WecelebratedinCancunearlythisyearduetothe
schedulingofhissurgeryValentine's
week.Itamazesmehowwemanagedto
leaveourtechnologyathomeandenjoy
thesimplepleasuresoflife.Withourcrazyschedulesweoftenforgettotaketime
forourselvesorsetasidetimetospend
withthosewelove.Lifeisshort,sodon't
beafraidtodosomethingthatisoutside
ofyourcomfortzone.Someopportunitiesonlycomeonceinalifetime.Don't
missthem.Icheckedcliffdiving,seeing
oneoftheSevenWondersoftheWorld,
andlearningtosailoffmybucketlist
whileinCancun.Sure,itwasabitoverwhelming,butIamgladIdid.Liveyour
lifewithnoregrets.
AppreciatewhatyouDOhaveandthose
wholoveyoueversingledayofyourlife.

Volunteers Needed
Ifyouareinterestedinworkingwithdomesticviolenceadvocacygroups,the
NewJerseyStatePoliceislookingforvolunteerstohelpwitharesponseteam.
TheDomesticViolenceResponseTeam
(DVRT)isajointeffortoftheNewJersey
StatePoliceandadvocacygroups.Volunteeradvocatesworkinconjunctionwith
police,countyprosecutor’sof ices,and
privateorganizations.Theyprovidesupport,information,referrals,andsafety
plantovictimsofdomesticviolence.
Volunteersmustattendafree40-hour
trainingcourse,possessavaliddriver’s
license,andbewillingtoserveonanoncallshiftbasis,submittoabackground
checkandbe ingerprinted.Trainingwill

InNewJerseyeachcountyhasadesignatedsexualanddomesticviolenceservice
providerforvictims.InGloucesterand
Cumberlandcountiesthatorganizationis
SERV(ServicesEmpoweringRightsofVictims),whichishighlightingtheimportance
ofhavingcounselingandsafehousesavailabletovictimsofdomesticabuse.InCamdenCountySERVisthedesignatedorganizationforsexualviolence.
”They(victims)wouldn’thaveanyother
placetogoifthereweren’tprogramslike
this,”saidGinaRidge,SERV’sdirector.“We
alsoprovideeducationinthecommunity
aswell.Ifwedidn’thavetheseservicesthe
cycleofviolencewouldneverend.”
SERVprovidesa24-hourhotline,crisis
intervention,counselingandsupport
groupsformaleandfemalevictimsofdomesticviolenceandsafehousingforfemalevictimsandtheirchildren.
Forvictimsofdomesticorsexualviolence,
tryingtogethelportoleavethesituation
canbeascarysituation.Theyareoften
ightingfortheirliveswithlittleorno
resourcesoftheirown.
“Manyvictimshavenomoney.Everything
they’vehadhasbeentakenfromthem.It’s
likestartingfromscratchsometimes,”
Ridgesaid.“Notonlydotheyneedhelpto
recoverfromtheabuse,butalsotostart
over.”
WithsafehousesavailableinGloucester
andCumberlandCounty,SERVaimsto
provideaplaceforvictimstogo,aswellas
themyriadofservicesprovidedforthose
outsideoftheirhouses—allfreeof
charge.

comparing expenses and profit from

told of the Animal shelter fire. Members
commented that shelter now has plenty
