Medicine Beyond Medication brings MDs, DOs, Ph.Ds, PAs, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare
providers together to explore and discuss various modalities of integrative medicine in conjunction
with more traditional practices. Renowned experts share research-based presentations with attendees,
while numerous practitioners showcase their training with one-on-one experiential learning opportunities.

ABOUT THE MEDICAL MILE
Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Medical Mile began with the establishment of the
internationally renowned Van Andel Institute. Since its inception in 1996, the area is now five times
the size and is home to: Spectrum Health’s Butterworth Hospital, Meijer Heart Center, Helen DeVos Children’s
Hospital, Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion, Michigan State University’s Secchia Center Medical School, Grand
Valley State University’s Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, and Grand Rapids Community College’s
Calkins Science Center, among other facilities in the area.
ABOUT UNIVERSAL HEALTH SOLUTIONS’ FOUNDER
Universal Health Solutions was founded by Laurie Angell, RS, in an effort to bring the
medical community together to explore and discuss various modalities of integrative
medicine in conjunction with more traditional practices.
A graduate of Grand Valley State University (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Laurie
spent several years as a Registered Sanitarian, before committing to raising her two
daughters, as well as educating herself about holistic therapies. Laurie commits her
time, energy, and resources to massage therapy and advocating integrative medicine
practices, hoping that others will benefit from the complementary medicine that
has helped heal her.
Today, Laurie is an active member of the American Holistic Medical Association, and sits on the organization’s Conference Steering Committee. She is also a member of the American Massage Therapy Association,
Massage Therapy Foundation, and Healing Touch International (now Healing Beyond Borders).
