Gold Coast Hospital demolition update
Keeping you informed about the demolition of the old Gold Coast Hospital
Welcome to the latest update on the demolition of the old Gold Coast Hospital. Each week we will provide you with the
latest information about what is happening onsite.
Current works
The demolition of Mitchell Court took two working days
to complete, with all above ground structures now
demolished. Underground structures and services will
be removed at a later date. The demolition of Mitchell
Court means that the south-east corner of the site
(corner of Queen Street and Little High Street) is now
clear of all above ground structures.
Demolition of D Block is now well underway. D Block is
the largest of all of the outlying buildings (second only in
size to the tower block) and is expected to take up to
four weeks to demolish. Three excavators, including the
40-tonne high reach machine, are being used for this
demolition.
Asbestos removal works are continuing in the towers
and Accommodation Block 1. Preparation works are
also now underway in Ward 14.
Independent air and dust monitoring is continuing with
no impact on local air quality has been recorded.
