THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME In the Gospel today, a scholar of the law asked Jesus, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments." O how simple our Faith is. How simple God makes it for us. Love God with your whole self, with everything you are and love others as you love or care for yourself. Yet, so simple, but how complicated we make it. Not only do we complicate the matter, the world influences us to think that you should not love God with your whole self, but love yourself with your whole self, and to love others second to yourself. The world tries to influence us in this way, yet we, as Christians, are different. We do not, or should not, live for our self. We live for God and others. And when we fall short of that it is rooted in our inmost being and we feel guilt. Yet we allow the influences of world and selfishness to rub off on us and we get stagnate in that lifestyle. We need to awaken who we are and how we are to live. In order to live as Jesus commanded, we need to be on FIRE! I encourage you to come to the FIRE Rally next Saturday, November 1, at the Monroeville Convention Center from 1:00-5:30PM. Together we can beat the world’s influence and be more on FIRE than any Christian Church we know. Financial Statement Please see the financial statement insert for the fiscal year of July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014. As you review it, again I want to thank all of you for supporting our parish. Nov 1 All Saints Day and Nov. 2 All Souls Day Although, Saturday November 1, All Saints Day is a Solemnity and usually a Holy Day of Obligation, the Obligation is not observed when this day falls on a Saturday or Monday. Therefore there will only be the 8:30AM Mass next week. November 2, All Souls Day, falls on a Sunday this year and supersedes the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time. Therefore all Masses next Sunday will be All Souls Day Masses with proper prayers and readings. Due to this feast falling on Sunday, our commemorative All Souls Mass will be Monday evening, November 3 at 7:00 PM. Olive Wood Sales – shop early for Christmas On November 22 and 23 our brothers and sisters representing the Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will be selling Crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries, - all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. Sale of these goods will help them and also give you the opportunity to have something authentic from the holy land. This is their main source of income. Please browse and buy some articles. It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. See Website: www.bcfmission.com SAVE THE DATE!!! Tony Important message from a Parishioner: Grow in the Faith with Small Faith Groups for Couples Did you ever feel like you were being led to do something by the Holy Spirit? That's how I feel about this. My husband and I have had the pleasure of being involved with several small faith groups and feel compelled to start one at St. Bernadette's. The one we'd like to start is called, The Christian Family Movement (CFM). You can read more about it at http://www.cfm.org/home.html. The way it works is that couples meet at one another's homes once a month to pray, discuss a few pages of a CFM book, and enjoy the fellowship of one another. I have found great joy in being a part of small faith groups in the past; it's a great way to grow spiritually and get to know the "Body of Christ." If this is something that interests you, contact Alison Cooley by e-mail at [email protected] or at 412.496.9904. Please call after 3:00PM M-F (for clarification, this is not a group affiliated with Teams of Our Lady). ST.
