Delhi stalemate: SC slams Centre, Governor q ‘President rule can’t go on forever’ q ‘Enough time has been given’ New Delhi, Oct 29: The Supreme Court today pulled up the Central government as well as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, for delay in taking decision regarding government formation in the national capital. The court questioned whether The apex court said that people of Delhi have a right to have a government and not be under President’s Rule any of the parties have the required numbers to form the government. According to police sources, a Traffic Sub Inspector who was on duty near Maduravoyal in Koyambedu, pulled up a car for driving on the wrong side. However, the man behind the wheel, who claimed to be an IPS officer, sped away when asked to produce the identity card. The traffic personnel at subsequent signals were alerted and he was caught. In Mumbai, even as back channel talks over power sharing were on between BJP and Shiv Sena, the latter, in an apparent attempt to mend ties with its former ally ahead of government formation in Maharashtra, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting a Diwali tea party for NDA allies. Photo: K VIJAY ANAND Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI): Even as back channel talks over power sharing were on between BJP and Shiv Sena, the latter, in an apparent attempt to mend ties with its former ally ahead of government formation in Maharashtra, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting a Diwali tea party for NDA allies. The Sena had yesterday spoken openly in favor of a BJP-led coalition government for the first time and today it showered praises on Modi for changing the cultural face of the country. ‘Prime Minister Modi has changed the cultural face of India after coming to power. This is commendable. Until yesterday only Iftar parties were being held by leaders during the Eid festival, today Diwali is being celebrated as well. This is an important change,’ the Sena said in an editorial in its mouthpiece Saamana. Notably, the editorial is in stark contrast to an article published in ‘Saamana’ earlier this month, when the Sena had accused the BJP of not recognising the party (Sena) after winning the State Assembly elections. However, softening its stand, the Sena had yesterday said, ‘If Shiv Sena and BJP come together to form a government it will be stable. Our ties with BJP are very old. Whatever happened during the elections we have forgotten.’ The party today praised the Prime Minister saying that, ‘Modi used the occasion (the high tea organized for NDA MPs on Sunday) to put forward his schemes for the development of the poor. He asked all the MPs to work for the benefit of common man. Whatever he said was true.’ ‘Lakhs of crores have been spent on development schemes, but nothing substantial has been done by the previous governments in the last 50 years. The new government should now find out where did all that money go and whom did it benefit,’ the editorial stated. Those devoid of any hope of getting any crumbs from the Congress’s high table, or are foolhardy enough to speak their mind openly, often dare to call a spade a spade --- and end up immediately being silenced by the high command. Post-Lok Sabha poll, a number of mid-level Congress leaders have been made to pay the price for daring to express their true views about Rahul Gandhi, with one of them actually calling him a ‘joker’ Privately, however, a vast majority of Congressmen share their dissatisfaction with the Gandhi scion. Now, following the drubbing in the Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana, there is a fresh wave of resentment and anger against the high command. Indeed, even before the party could absorb the shocks from Mumbai and Chandigarh, the announcement of the poll schedule for Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand has lent a sharper edge to the sense of despondency in the party. With prospects in the two States set to go to the polls next no better than the outcome in Maharashtra and Haryana, the downcast mood in the party is easy to understand. But it is the failure of senior Congress leaders to do an honest post-mortem of a series of abject defeats this year that is mainly to blame for the party’s failure to come to grips with its major ailment, that is, the lacklustre leadership of the Gandhis. Even those Congressmen who ought to know better refrain from calling the problem by its name. And, in one word, its name is Rahul Gandhi. The other day P. Chidambaram, surfaced on television to talk about this and that but he fell well short of naming the malaise that has hollowed the Congress from within. That he is keen on entering Parliament through the backdoor is widely suspected. He had chickened out of contesting the Lok Sabha poll, fielding his son instead, who got a few more votes than the bank ATMs his father had got opened in the constituency thanks to his stint as the country’s Finance Minister. But the very articulate and very clever Chidambaram was unlikely to reveal his real motive of wanting a Rajya Sabha seat, so he talked in generalities about the revival of the Congress. Instead of admitting that Rahul Gandhi had given no indication of possessing any leadership qualities, he merely suggested that the mother and son duo engage with the media more often. This was a rather polite way to evade the real issue of the Gandhis’ lack of leadership. Indeed, if the Gandhis were to heed the sole piece of advice Chidambaram offered for the revival of the Congress, wouldn’t it expose them further to public ridicule for their lack of the gift of articulation and more than a nodding familiarity with current affairs, domestic and global? A complete leader wanting to rule India ought to have the mental wherewithal to grasp broadly major problems facing the country and be in a position to outline, again broadly, the solutions he or she canvasses for resolving them. Chidambaram himself is a clever talker, but when he says that the Gandhis too should interact with the media more often, is he sure that they can handle the two-way dialogue? For the record, he conceded that it was possible for someone else other than a Gandhi to lead the party. Of course, the possibility was always there but the question is who will bell the cat? Who will muster the courage to gather support within the higher echelons of the serried ranks of yes-men for replacing at least the non-performing Congress vice-president with someone more dynamic, more articulate, more go-getting than the Gandhi scion? The fear that without the Gandhis acting as the glue the party will disintegrate cannot be allowed to perpetuate their stranglehold even as the Congress tests ever new lows of defeat and rejection. Someone who has the good of the party at his heart, and does not merely want a seat in Parliament, ought to have the courage to call a spade a spade and rescue the Grand Old Party from further marginalisation. Alas, are there such men left in the Congress? Voice Mail Tough ride Sir, P V Vaithiyalingam Road, which leads to a leading college in Pallavaram is in bad condition and filled with potholes. Anand, By email Construct over-bridge Sir, I am writing this to bring to attention the plight of residents of Sanatorium and Chitlapakkam, who use the (Sanatorium) subway daily to reach the Railway station or GST Road. Some years back the subway was constructed and subsequently walls were constructed in front of Railway gates on both sides to prevent passengers from crossing the tracks. This is for public safety, we agree. But the problem is, there is no alternative for pedestrians to enter the station or to reach GST Road except through this subway. This results in lots of sufferings to the public during rainy seasons as the subway becomes unusable. These problems can be avoided if an overbridge is constructed so that public get an alternative to enter station or reach GST Road. V Gayathri, Tambaram ADDRESS YOUR LETTERS TO : The Editor, News Today, 85, Mount Road, Guindy, Chennai - 600 032. or e-mail to : [email protected] / [email protected] CHENNAI UN concludes visits to Ebola-affected countries ‘Robust’ recovery plan in pipeline UNITED NATIONS: The head of the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) has wrapped up his visits to the three West African countries battling the Ebola outbreak as part of the Organization’s ongoing efforts to drum up international support in tackling the deadly crisis, it was announced today. Over the past week, UNMEER chief, Anthony Banbury, met with the Presidents of Guinea, Sierra Leone and, on Friday, Liberia, in a series of consultations focusing on how an operational framework for international efforts could be ‘adapted and implemented to best support the ongoing national responses,’ the mission said in a press release. In addition to his consultations with the leaders, he also engaged in a series of meetings with national and international partners and visits to health facilities under construction to hear and see first-hand how efforts to stop the Ebola virus are progressing. According to the UN World Health Organization’s latest situation report, there have been 9,936 cases of Ebola and 4,877 deaths so far Developed in a recent high-level meeting of senior UN officials and external stakeholders from the World Bank, the United States’ Centers for Disease Control, and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, the UN operational framework was designed to provide a UN response specific to the needs of each country while maintaining the centrality of national ownership. The Governments of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - each of which has the final decision on the overall approach and strategy for dealing with Ebola in their respective countries - have national response plans in place and have been responding to the crisis for many months. Those Governments provided input and direction on the operational framework. Google honours Jonas Salk Google has celebrated the 100th birthday of Dr Jonas Salk, the American scientists who developed the first successful polio vaccine, with a doodle on its homepage. The heart-warming illustration depicts two children holding up a sign reading ‘Thank you, Dr Salk!’ - a tribute to the virologist’s work against a disease whose main victims were children. In the two years before his vaccine was made widely available, the average number of polio cases in the US was more than 45,000. By 1962, that number had dropped to 910. Salk graduated from New York University School of Medicine in 1939 with his MD degree, and soon started work as a staff physician at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He would then apply his talents to the field of research, becoming a fellow at the University of Michigan where he worked to develop a flu vaccine at the request of the US Army. By 1947, he was appointed director of the Virus Research Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, the institution where he African lion to get ‘endangered species’ protection WASHINGTON: Loss of habitat and prey are putting African lions in danger of extinction, and the majestic creatures need protection in order to save their species, the US government said. ‘Following a review of the best available scientific information, the US Fish and Wildlife Service today proposed listing the African lion as threatened under the Endangered Species Act,’ the FWS said in a statement. ‘The agency’s analysis found that lions are in danger of extinction in the foreseeable future.’ Such protection would allow US authorities to toughen enforcement and monitoring of imports and international trade, the FWS said. Listing an animal under the Endangered Species Act can also help raise awareness and money to help conservation efforts. developed the techniques that would help him discover a vaccine for polio. Salk re-worked the established idea of a vaccine by suggesting that immunity could be established in the body by using inactivated viruses. The virologist’s research soon caught the attention of Basil O’Connor, president of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (now known as the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation), whose organisation funded Salk’s efforts to develop a vaccine against the devastating disease. The resulting vaccine was tested first in monkeys and then in patients at the DT Watson Home for Crippled Children (now The Watson Institute), who already had polio. Polio-free volunteers, including Salk, his laboratory staff, his wife and their children, were given the vaccine - none of whom reacted badly to the experimental drug. In 1954, national testing began on one million children, ages six to nine, who became known as the Polio Pioneers: half received the vaccine, and half received a placebo. On April 12, 1955, the vaccine was declared safe and effective. Salk chose not to patent the vaccine and did not earn any money from his discovery, preferring to see it distributed as widely as possible. He died at age 80 on 23 June, 1995. Quake-resistant house built, tested WASHINGTON: Stanford engineers have designed and built an earthquake-resistant two-story house which can withstand destructive tremors and shakes. The house stayed staunchly upright even as it shook at three times the intensity of the 6.9 magnitude destructive 1989 Loma Prieta temblor in northern California, researchers said. The engineers outfitted their scaled-down, boxy house with sliding ‘isolators’ so it skated along the trembling ground instead of collapsing. They included extra-strength walls to create a home that might replace the need for residential earthquake insurance, said project leader Gregory Deierlein, Stanford University’s John A Blume Professor in the School of Engineering. The modifications are inexpensive and could be incorporated into new homes as soon as designers and contractors decide to try them, according to the researchers. We want a house that is damage free after the big earthquake, said Eduardo Miranda, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering. Residential homes already do a good job of keeping the people inside safe when a temblor hits. But earthquakes typically do a lot of minor structural damage. Even if the walls stay up in a quake, wall finishes like drywall and stucco, along with architectural fixtures like cabinetry, are damaged because of the large sideways movements caused by earthquakes, Deierlein said. ‘Making mistakes while learning good for memory’ TORONTO: Making mistakes while learning can benefit memory and lead to the correct answer, as long as you are not blindly guessing, a new study has found. ‘Making random guesses does not appear to benefit later memory for the right answer, but near-miss guesses act as stepping stones for retrieval of the correct information - and this benefit is seen in younger and older adults,’ said lead investigator Andree-Ann Cyr, a graduate student with Baycrest’s Rotman Research Institute and the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. Cyr’s study expands upon a previous paper she published in 2012 which found that learning information the hard way by making mistakes (as opposed to just being told the correct answer) may be the best boot camp for older brains. Cyr’s latest research provides evidence that trial-and- error learning can benefit memory in both young and old when errors are meaningfully related to the right answer, and can actually harm memory when they are not. In the study, 65 healthy younger adults (average age 22) and 64 healthy older adults (average age 72) learned target words (eg, rose) based either on the semantic category it belongs to (eg, a flower) or its word stem (eg, a word that begins with the letters ‘ro’). For half of the words, participants were given the answer right away and for the other half, they were asked to guess at it before seeing the answer. On a later memory test, participants were shown the categories or word stems and had to come up with the right answer. The researchers wanted to know if participants would be better at remembering rose if they had made wrong guesses prior to studying it rather than seeing it right away. ‘The framework sets out the stepby-step process on how the UN and international partners could support the three governments on achieving the overarching objective of assisting them to become Ebola-free,’ UNMEER explained, while underlining its ‘immediate objective’ of 70 per cent of Ebola cases treated and 70 per cent of burials carried out safely by properly trained and equipped teams by 1 December. Banbury’s meetings with President of Guinea, Alpha Condé, President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, and with President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, provided inputs and direction for the refining and updating of the operational framework, the UN mission noted. In addition, it would now serve as a guide to be followed by all UN agencies, funds and programmes and form the basis for the UN Ebola Crisis Managers in each country as they engage with their national counterparts. App to track Ebola epidemic NAIROBI: A new mobile telephone based mapping service has been created in a bid to track Ebola and better help communities hit by the virus in west Africa, developers said. The system, a collaboration between technology giant IBM, mobile telephone companies and academics, allows people in affected areas to send free text messages about Ebola to track problems and trends, with the program mapping the exact location from where it is sent. ‘It has already brought to light specific regions with growing numbers of suspected Ebola cases which require urgent supplies like soap and electricity, as well as faster response times for body collection and burials,’ IBM said. The company claims it can create a range of maps to track needs and problems, to better allow health workers and governments tackle them. ‘We saw the need to quickly develop a system to enable communities directly affected by Ebola to provide valuable insight about how to fight it,’ IBM Research Africa’s chief scientist Uyi Stewart said in a statement. ‘Using mobile technology, we have given them a voice and a channel to communicate their experiences directly,’ Stewart said. Hitler’s copy of ‘Mein Kampf’ may fetch $100k NEW YORK: German dictator Adolf Hitler’s personal copy of ‘Mein Kampf’ - believed to be the only existing author-owned copy of the book - is expected to fetch over $100,000 at an online auction. ‘This is not your run-of-the-mill copy of Mein Kampf,’ said antiquities dealer Craig Gottlieb, who is auctioning the book online at www. historyhunter.com. ‘Obviously Hitler must have had multiple editions of his own book, but this one was in his Munich apartment and Hitler’s eyes almost certainly scanned its pages at some point,’ Gottlieb said. The 1932 edition of the book bears Hitler’s own bookplate affixed to the inside front cover. The auction began on 18 October and will end on 1 November, 2014. Mein Kampf - or My Struggle - is an autobiographical manifesto by Hitler, where he outlined his political ideology and future plans for Germany. The book was written by Hitler following the failed Munich Putsch in November 1923 and was first published in July 1925. The book was part of a group of Hitler’s personal belongings that was liberated from Hitler’s Munich apartment in 1945 by US Army 1st Lieutenant Joseph Ben Lieber. India’s slipped 13 spots from its last year’s ranking of 101 on the Gender Gap Index by the World Economic Forum. India is part of the 20 worstperforming countries on the labour force participation, estimated earned income, literacy rate and sex ratio at birth indicators. On the other hand, India is among the top 20 best-performing countries on the political empowerment subindex. The index was first introduced by the World Economic Forum in 2006 as a framework for capturing the magnitude of gender-based disparities and tracking their progress. The index benchmarks national gender gaps on economic, political, education and health criteria. ‘Workplace equality in distant future’ If you’re waiting for gender equality in the workplace, be prepared to wait a long time. While women are rapidly closing the gender gap with men in areas like health and education, inequality at work is not expected to be erased until 2095, according to a report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Monday. The organisation said that the worldwide gender gap in the workplace had barely narrowed in the past nine years. Since 2006, when the WEF first began issuing its annual Global Gender Gap Reports, women have seen their access to economic participation and opportunity inch up to 60 per cent of that of men’s, from 56 per cent. On the criteria of economic participation and opportunity, India was ranked 134. Its female to male ratio in labour force participation was 0.36. The disparity in estimated earned income was high with females earning $1980 compared to $8087 earned by their male counterparts. On educational attainment, India ranked 126 with female to male ratio in literacy rate at 0.68. He has left the boy, Stefan, at home with his wife Jelena, but said Monday he hopes to incorporate his family life into his tennis travels next year. ‘I would like to be with him every single day and with my wife,’ Djokovic said, ‘but sometimes that’s not possible, like this week for example . because the baby is too young to travel yet.’ Djokovic leads Federer by 2,230 points in the world rankings. But the top-ranked Serb has 2,500 points to defend as he won the Paris Masters and the ATP World Tour Finals last year, while Federer can gain points as he lost in the semifinals of both events. ‘Honestly, the way I feel right now, I feel like I’m already No. 1 with becoming a father last week. Real Madrid to take up Zidane case Madrid, Oct 28 (AFP): Former France legend Zinedine Zidane and his club European champions Real Madrid were embroiled in an embarrassing dispute with the Spanish Football Federation who according to influential Madrid-based sports paper Marca handed him a three month coaching ban. The 42-year-old -- who inspired France to the 1998 World Cup trophy and was also a member of the Euro 2000 title winning side -- has been coaching Real’s reserve side Castilla but the federation claims he does not possess the required coaching qualifications. Real have said they will appeal against the punishment by ‘all legal avenues open to them’. The reserve team’s assistant coach Santiago Sanchez was also punished. Real issued a statement yesterday declaring their ‘total disagreement’ with the decision taken against one of their former iconic players, who scored a wonder goal for the ‘meringues’ when they beat Bayer Leverkusen to win the 2002 Champions League trophy. They pointed out that Zidane ‘has been authorised by the French Football Federation to work as a head coach in the category Real Madrid Castilla currently find themselves in.’ Zidane -- who was linked with the head coach post at another of his former clubs Bordeaux in the close season -- was elevated to reserve team coach at the beginning of this season following a single campaign as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant which saw Real win a 10th European Cup in May. Spanish coaching school, the Cenafe, has submitted a complaint to the Spanish Federation against Real, claiming they are using assistant Sanchez’s name on the teamsheet to bypass the regulations. South Africa shocked over Meyiwa killing Johannesburg, Oct 28: South Africa’s national soccer goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa has been shot dead by burglars during a break-in, a killing that shocked the country and turned the spotlight once again on gun violence here. At an emotional news conference on Monday, Meyiwa’s colleagues paid tribute to the 27-year-old, who was hit by a single round in the chest on Sunday night as he confronted two intruders at the home of actress and singer Kelly Khumalo. Meyiwa, who was shot in Vosloorus township southeast of Johannesburg, was dead on arrival at hospital, police said. His death highlighted the problem of gun violence in South Africa only days after Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius was jailed for five years for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year. This weekend’s Johannesburg Prosecutors set to appeal Pistorius verdict Johannesburg: South African prosecutors will appeal against the culpable homicide verdict and five-year jail sentence passed on Oscar Pistorius last week after public and legal criticism of the judge’s decision to absolve the track star of murder. The Olympic and Paralympic athlete, whose lower legs were amputated as a baby, killed his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day last year by firing four 9mm rounds into the locked door of a toilet cubicle in what he said was the mistaken belief an intruder was hiding behind it. The announcement of the appeal came on Monday in a Twitter statement from Nathi Mncube, spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA): ‘Oscar Pistorius judgement, NPA will be appealing both the conviction and sentence.’ Mncube confirmed the appeal in an email to Reuters but gave no further details. Oscar Pistorius seven-month trial, the state failed to convince judge Thokozile Masipa of Pistorius’ intent to kill when he fired, leading to his conviction for negligent killing - culpable homicide - and a five-year jail term last week. However, Masipa’s decision to rule out murder was criticised by several legal experts and the Women’s League of the African National Congress (ANC) as an erroneous interpretation of ‘dolus eventualis’, the legal principle by which a person is held accountable for the foreseeable consequences of their actions. Windies will be at World Cup, says official Sydney, Oct 28 (AFP): Cricket World Cup chief executive John Harnden today said that he was confident the West Indies would play in next year’s tournament, despite their shock withdrawal from a tour of India. The West Indies cut short their India tour this month over an internal pay dispute, despite a fifth and final OneDay International, a Twenty20 match and three Tests still to be played. The situation has raised doubts as to whether the Caribbean side will be able to fulfil its upcoming international engagements, including a tour of South Africa followed by the World Cup. Harnden said he was confident the issues would be resolved and the West Indies would play in the World Cup being jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand from mid-February. ‘We see that everyone’s very focused on resolving the situation as quickly as possible,’ Harnden said. ‘We’re not overly dependent on Elano’ NT Bureau Chennai, Oct 28: Chennaiyin FC’s assistant coach Vivek Nagul said his boys are not scared of Mumbai City FC team’s marquee striker Nicholas Anelka, who is expected to play his first match when the two teams lock horns in the Hero ISL, here tonight. ‘We won’t have any particular strategy for Anelka. We have players to do a job for us both with and without the ball. We have the quality to stop Anelka also when he is in possession,’ a confident Nagul told reporters at the pre-match press conference yesterday. Nagul also dismissed notion that Chennai was overtly dependant on Brazilian Elano Blumer. ‘We are not dependent on one single player. Our team is a blend of youth and experience. We have good attackers. You will see a positive change in the attitude of our players compared to what it was when we played against Delhi Dynamos,’ Nagul said. The Chennai team is not planning any change in the starting line-up despite their 1-4 drubbing at the hands of Dynamos in the last match in Delhi. On captain Bojan Djordjic not being able to play through the match, Vivek said, ‘He struggled a bit in the last two matches. We do not want to force any player unnecessarily. We have strong midfield bench-strength and Bojan not playing the match through is not a problem for us. We are focused fully to deliver the result against Mumbai City FC.’ TUESDAY 28 OCTOBER 2014 Mixed Bag CHENNAI TN pins hopes on Sathish, youngsters Samuels counters Bravo’s claim Bridgetown, Oct 28: West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels contested Dwayne Bravo’s claim that he had agreed to abide by any decision taken by his team - including leaving the India tour before schedule. In an interview to ESPNCricinfo, the 33-year-old Jamaican further said that the entire salary row was mis-handled by all parties involved - West Indies Players Association (WIPA), the cricket board (WICB) Marlon Samuels and the players themselves. Taking on skipper Bravo’s claim that Samuels was part of a ‘unanimous’ team decision, Samuels revealed that he had never given his word. ‘No, I did not say that I am going to stand by any decision,’ he said. ‘Because nobody asked me questions like that. It is up to the individual to say okay I am with you. You had people in the room that didn’t even open their mouth or say anything.’This comes in sharp contrast to Bravo’s statements that claimed Samuels was an active participant in team meetings during the India tour. The entire controversy erupted when the players felt that WIPA chief Wavell Hinds had ‘hoodwinked’ them by agreeing to the new contracts without taking them into confidence. While the players eventually decided to cut short their India tour leaving WICB red-faced, Samuels reportedly wanted the tour to be finished as per schedule. The 33-year-old all-rounder has also said that he wanted that fans should have more clarity - a view that Bravo disagreed with. ‘One of the questions I asked was the public don’t really know what is happening,’ Samuels said. ‘The public are being misled. They need to know the truth behind this (pullout). They need to go out there and explain what is really happening. He (Bravo) wasn’t willing to go and do that. That is why I say that if you are not up to doing what I want to go there and do, which is the right thing, then you are not going to get my full support.’ West Indies players had made the Dharamsala ODI their last and Bravo has said in a media release last week that the decision to fly back home was supported by all his players. q Subbiah Pillai Trophy, the first test for underperfoming team C SHYAM SUNDAR Chennai, Oct 28: Tamilnadu cricket teams haven’t had the best of time in national level tournaments in recent years. From being on the fringes of the Tamilnadu team, he tried his luck elsewhere plying his trade with sides in the North-East including Assam and was part of the now-defunct ICL. It must said his skills came to the fore in the ill-fated ICL as he performed brilliantly. After getting amnestry from BCCI for his involvement in the socalled rebel league (ICL), Sathish has gained in stature steadily. He was roped in by the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians and occasionally showed his utility value. Later, he moved to Kings XI Punjab where he shone in the chances he got. Now, a bigger responsibility beckons as Sathish would be leading a bunch of talented players with lots of experience thrown in as he aims to revive the team’s fortunes. TNCA honorary secretary K S Viswanathan said Sathish was an experienced player and it will stand him in good stead when he captains the team in the Subbiah Pillai Trophy. He is a fine all-rounder and a very good fielder and his utility will be a strength to the side, Viswanathan said. Further, the TNCA secretary said Sathish had led Jolly Rovers for a long time and proved his (leadership) skills.
