Stomp to present seven shows at Ice Skating Rink
By Nawara Fattahova
S
tomp, an international band, is presenting shows in
Kuwait from Oct 22 to 25, 2014 at the Ice Skating
Rink. Seven shows will be presented over four days,
and each show is an hour and 40 minutes long. The shows
are presented by Event Mania in association with Stomp
Production and Glynis Henderson Production, and sponsored by Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC), Al Mulla
Rental and Leasing, Swiss Belhotel Plaza and City Pages.
“Stomp is a popular band from the UK who have won a
Grammy award in addition to other awards and we are
glad to host their performance at the Ice Skating Rink.
Through this performance, we aim to provide special
entertainment to citizens and expats of all ages,” said Saqer
Al-Bader, Acting PR and Marketing, TEC, during a press conference on Tuesday at the Ice Skating Rink.
Stomp is presenting a musical show without using
musical instruments. “The band consisting of eight artists is
a presenting kinetic performance with music using various
objects like brooms, sinks, barrels, buckets, shopping trolleys, basketballs, newspapers and others, which makes the
show more exciting,” he added. Tickets are available at the
Ice Skating Rink or online. “I advise people to book their
tickets early if they want to make sure of getting a seat due
to the high interest in these shows. The price ranges from
KD 15 to 75,” concluded Bader.
Shiham Shihada, Executive Director of Event Mania, noted these shows are for the whole family. “The show presented by Stomp is a mix between the past and present in
a funny way. The actors are using primitive objects to produce the amazing sounds accompanied by artistic dances
in a comic style,” he pointed out. Stomp has presented
shows in many countries. “This is the first performance of
Stomp in Kuwait. The band has performed in London, New
York and many other places including Dubai, Lebanon and
Jordan in the Middle East,” he added.
Omar Al-Samarai, Supervisor of the Ice Skating Rink,
said these shows will be held in the big rink only, which is
closed for this period to hold the shows, but lovers of ice
skating can still enjoy their favorite hobby at the small rink
which is open to the public as usual.
Yamama Obaid, Marketing Manager of Event Mania,
noted that the company did a feasibility study and are
optimistic about the high attendance. “We are always seeking new activities to present to people in Kuwait. So
instead of traveling abroad, they can enjoy the shows here
in Kuwait,” she explained.
Dr Jacquelyn Elliott gives Change
Management presentation at GUST
T
he Gulf University for Science
and Technology (GUST) organized a presentation on “Culture
of Change and Change Management”
by Dr Jacquelyn D. Elliott, Ed.D.,
International Liaison Specialist at
University of Missouri St. Louis
(UMSL), GUST’s partner university. The
presentation focused on faculty facing
a barrage of change every day from
political, administrative, and curricular
demands. The session focused on
change and change management for
both professional and personal
advancement.
Dr. Elliot’s main theme was “the
only constant is change” and that people should adapt with it in order to
grow and develop as individuals and
as an institution. She spoke about
change sponsors who should have
power to make change, fearlessness,
vision, public and private roles within
change, be able to sacrifice, and excel
at performance management to effectively steer an institution and its
employees to change for the better.
She touched on the importance of
involving people in the change
process so that they can all be aligned
and connected to the vision and mission of the institution and believe in
the change; this in order to make it a
success. Within the presentation, Dr.
Elliot also talked about the reasons
why people resist change, the qualities of effective leaders, what to
expect when dealing with change and
emotional responses to change which
she noted that leaders should be
aware of and expect them from their
employees and therefore deal with
them efficiently.
An important concept discussed in
the presentation was Kotter’s 8 Step
Model, which is the best known model for change management, which are:
create urgency, form a powerful coalition, create a vision for change, communicate the vision, remove obstacles, create short-term wins, build on
the change and anchor the changes in
corporate culture.
At the end of the presentation, Dr.
Elliott briefly addressed the Faculty
Fellowships, where GUST faculty got
the opportunity to ask questions
about the program which encourages
research between GUST and UMSL
faculty.
