In this celebratory ceremony, the Brown Medical
Alumni Association will provide each first-year
medical student with a white coat to symbolize
their commitment to the world of medicine. Join

Medical School for this very special presentation.
Round-trip shuttle transportation will be available

The Ceremony of Commitment to Medicine
will feature an inspiring lecture, “How to
Master or Fail at Balancing your Personal and
Professional Life as a Physician,” by Jay S. Loeffler
MD’82, chief of the Department of Radiation
Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital, to
welcome the MD Class of 2018. This lecture—
the Charles O. Cooke, MD, Distinguished
Visiting Lectureship—is supported by a bequest
from Mrs. Ruth Cooke Peterson to establish an
endowed lectureship in any branch of medicine
that can hold promise of significant and lasting
benefit to medical education at Brown, or to
the community, or the delivery of health care
services.

WaterFire Providence is an award-winning sculpture
installation created by Barnaby Evans ’75. In honor
of Brown’s 250th Anniversary and Family Weekend,

Tips for parking near the Medical School’s
Family Weekend events!
Parking at Alpert Medical School
(222 Richmond Street)
Metered spaces are available on a number of
streets near the Medical School building, including
Richmond Street, Elm Street, and Chestnut Street.
Please adhere to posted signs regarding allowable
hours and other parking limitations, and note that
meters accept quarters only.
Parking is available for a fee until 11 p.m. at the
garage adjacent to the Medical School building
on Friday, October 24. Additionally, after 5 p.m. on
Friday, October 24, both lot 30 (on the corner of
Elm and Richmond streets) and lot 81 (corner of
Ship and Richmond streets) will be open Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday until 9 p.m. each night.
Shuttle Service to Alpert Medical School
Shuttle service will be provided to and from the
Van Wickle Gates and 222 Richmond Street on
Friday, October 24, between noon and 5:30 p.m.,
and on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m to 1 p.m.
