After attending Orthopedic Boot Camp, participants will:
• Have a better understanding of the anatomy of the knee, hip, hand,
shoulder and spine and identify common orthopedic conditions involving
those areas.
• Utilize appropriate imaging for fracture care.
• Implement initial treatment in a primary care setting and when to refer to
an orthopedic specialist.
• Distinguish common rheumatologic disorders and when to refer to a
rheumatologist.
• Identify the different types of musculoskeletal injections and why they are
used.

Faculty
Paul Kraemer, M.D. is a partner of Indiana Spine Group and practices at Community Hospital,
Riverview Hospital and Indiana University Hospitals. He serves as the assistant professor of
Orthopaedic Surgery and is the fellowship director for the spine surgery fellowship. Dr. Kraemer
is actively involved in research , resident education and cross-specialty education of practicing
physicians. He has presented research and taught courses nationally at the American Academy
of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the North
American Spine Society, as well as, speaking locally on complex spine and diagnostic challenges
to the IU departments of medicine, orthopaedics, and neurosurgery.
Kevin E. Macadaeg, M.D., a founding member of Indiana Spine Group, is a minimally invasive
spine specialist focusing on spinal diagnostics and therapeutics. Additionally, he is a clinical
assistant professor for Indiana University School of Medicine’s department of anesthesiology,
and an adjunct assistant professor for the physician assistant program at the College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Butler University. He is board certified in anesthesiology and
pain management. Dr. Macadaeg’s areas of special medical interest include minimally invasive
spinal diagnostics / therapeutics and spine research/pain management.
Thurman Alvey, D.O. is a primary care sports medicine specialist. His interests include acute
musculoskeletal injury, concussion management, exercise prescription, sports dermatology,
and medical conditions in athletes. Dr. Alvey has specialized training in musculoskeletal
ultrasound and osteopathic manipulative medicine to assist in the non-operative care of his
patients. After receiving his medical degree in 2003 and prior to completing his fellowship, Dr.
Alvey spent five years as a member of the teaching faculty for the Union Hospital Family
Medicine Residency practicing full-spectrum family medicine. His research interests include
injury prevention, sports performance, chronic tendinopathy, regenerative biomedicine and
concussion management.
Ryan R. Jaggers, M.D. is a native of nearby Greenfield, Indiana. He attended Indiana University
in Bloomington and received his degree in Biology. He remained in Bloomington for the first
two years of medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine before completing his
clinical years in Indianapolis. After medical school, Dr. Jaggers went on to graduate from the
Indiana University Orthopaedic Surgery residency program. In his free time, he enjoys
vacationing, golf, and attending concerts with his wife.
Laurie Dawley, NP from Rheumatology Associates and Osteoporosis Clinic in Indianapolis, has
greater than fourteen years experience working with patients presenting with rheumatologic
disorders or osteoporosis. She specializes in rheumatology, osteoporosis and sports medicine.
Laurie is a graduate of Syracuse University and is board certified as an adult and family nurse
practitioner.
