Goals for the study
– To explore competences needed in companies and to study if the education
in Pirkanmaa region is in correspondence with the needs of a working life.
– To find out if the skills of recent graduates are corresponding with the
existing needs in private and public sector companies. -> emphasis on the
experience and insight of employers!
– In addition the purpose was to evaluate the changes in the future
competence needs due to the impact of the changing operating
environment and to foresee future competence needs until year 2020 and
to make recommendations based on the recognized needs in order to
further develop the education.
– Focus on the skills, not in the number of degrees and diplomas!

Megatrends in the working enviroment...
 Internationalization is a ongoing process and it is only going to pick up speed
instead of slowing down
 Relatively intense and simultaneous changes in the operating environment are
getting more frequent.
 Uncertainty has been increasing; A need to rapidly react in changing situations.
 Business and corporate structure of Pirkanmaa has changed; in the future the
employment impact of SMEs is emphasized.
 A change from production-oriented thinking into more customer centric
direction; the importance of sales work and an active customer relationship
management is emphasized.
 Larger entities, services and solutions will be developed and sold.
 Information technology will be more and more integrated part of all functions.

Aprox 75 % of answers where relatively satisfied with skills of the recently graduated

80 % vastaajista oli tyytyväinen ammattioppilaitoksista valmistuvien tietotekniikan osaamiseen.
Pahimmiksi puutteiksi ammattioppilaitoksista valmistuneilla arvioitiin asennoituminen työntekoon ja
oma-aloitteisuus (yli 50 % vastaajista tätä mieltä)

Ammatilliseen lisä- ja täydennyskoulutukseen oltiin pääosiin tyytyväisiä.

Esimiestaidot arvioitiin riittämättömiksi niin ammattikorkeakouluista (45 %), yliopistosta (33 %) kuin
teknillisestä yliopistostakin (32 %) valmistuneiden kohdalla.

Tietotekniikan osaamisen arvioi hyväksi tai yrityksen tarpeisiin riittäväksi vähintään 60 % vastaajista
riippumatta siitä, mistä koulusta henkilö oli valmistunut.

Tulevien vuosien merkittävimmät lisäosaamistarpeet liittyvät myyntityöhön, asiakaspalveluun,
markkinointiin ja kansainväliseen liiketoimintaan.

Lähes 75 % vastaajista oli sitä mieltä, että Pirkanmaalla pitää lisätä mahdollisuuksia
oppisopimuskoulutukseen.

Lähes 90 % vastanneista oli sitä mieltä, että yritysten pitää osallistua koulutuksen suunnitteluun
yhdessä oppilaitosten kanssa sekä tarjota enemmän työssäoppimis-, harjoittelu- ja
opinnäytetyöpaikkoja.

– Adjustable and agile learning skills and continuous training
These skills should be taken account in all education and levels. The importance of above skills will
be more and more crucial in the future
Challenges to education providers: How to conduct more agile student counseling, how to add more
learning at the site(work) studies and how to get companies more involved?

 Companies and education providers need to collaborate more already at the
planning of studyprograms and executing studies. New ways of collaborating
needed. Companies needs to be active and offer quest lectures and study
enviroments to schools
 Companies needs to be more active in offering guestlectures and studyvisits to
TEACHERS and STUDYCOUNCELLERS in order to make sure they have the right
perspective to the work
 All leves of degrees need to make sure the student understands the basic
principles of workplace culture, workplace ethics, basic finances and have the
right attitude
 More agile and adjustable degrees. These need to take account also the
individual student
