MOVIE MEMORIES: CALAMITY JANE – Monday, 27 October at 9:30 am
Doris Day and Howard Keel, fuss, feud and fall in love as Calamity Jane and Wild Bill
Hikock in this great musical block-buster of a show. At first curvaceous Calamity is
too darned busy fighting Indians and cracking a bullwhip to mind to such girlie whatalls as dresses and perfume. And Wild Bill is too danged busy wooing a dainty
chanteuse to give a hoot about a hot-headed tomboy. But things change in a rootin’,
tootin’, big way when each becomes love’s target. There are wide-open scenic
Technicolour spaces, lots of high-stepping dances and a hummable humdinger of a
score by Academy Award-winning song writers Sammy Fain and Paul Webster who
won their first Oscar for the 1950s classical megahit ballad Secret Love in this
picture. All Villagers are welcome to MOVIE MEMORIES film shows every Monday
morning in Kilberry Terrace at 9:30 am. Come and join us there.
MUSIC SOCIETY: Our next concert on Sunday, 2 November at 4:00 pm in Talani, will
be given by Robert de Vries (flute), accompanied on the piano by Tertia VisserDowney. Robert is, at short notice, replacing Travis Moore, who has lost all his
instruments and music in a fire. Robert de Vries is a third year student at the South
African College of Music. Tickets for non-members cost R60 (adults); R30 (students).
Members pay a R15 door fee. Villagers who need lifts to Music Society concerts may
phone Sophia Lugt on (021) 855 4774.

A belated Ladies Singles Final for the 2013 / 14 season has resulted in Jennifer Harte

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Psalm 113 verses 3-6
From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same the Lord’s name is to be
praised. The Lord is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens. Who is
like the Lord our God, who dwells on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things
that are in heaven, and in the earth!
