Steve Nash moved into sole position for third place on the NBA’s all-time assist list with his fifth assist of the game and 10,335th of his career at the
2:13 mark in the second quarter, passing Mark Jackson. The game had other significance as well, being the highest scoring game of the NBA season
(275 combined points, the most in a regulation game since the Suns and Warriors combined for 284 points on 3/15/09). In the up-tempo affair, four
players scored 30+ points, the first time that happened in a regulation game since February 17, 1993 when the Knicks visited Charlotte. Nick Young
(32) and Jodie Meeks (30) were the 30-point scorers for Los Angeles (the first pair of Lakers to hit for 30+ in the same game since Kobe Bryant and
Dwight Howard did so 1/15/13 vs. MIL with 31 apiece), while James Harden and Terrence Jones both had 33 for Houston. The last occurrence in ’93
featured 43 points from Patrick Ewing, 39 from John Starks, and from the Charlotte side, 35 from Alonzo Mourning and 31 from Larry Johnson. Meek’s
12 made field goals were a career-high and Rookie Ryan Kelly set career marks with his eight made free throws and 11 attempted freebies en route to
18 points. Houston scored 115 points through three quarters and hit for 49 points in the third period, both opponent season-highs.

The Lakers won their third consecutive home game and prevented a sweep at the hands of the Suns, but holding Phoenix to 38.5% shooting from the floor, including just
22.2% (8-36) from beyond-the-arc. L.A. held its 21st opponent of the season under 100 points and moved its record to 15-6 in such games. Phoenix’s starting unit scored
just 39 points for the game, and the Suns never held a lead outside of the first quarter, as Los Angeles led by as many as 26 points. Chris Kaman was the offensive star
for the Lakers, scoring a season-high 28 points (one shy of his career-high) and matched his season-bests with 17 rebounds and six assists. Kaman’s 13 made field goals
also tied his season and career mark, and matched the Lakers individual high for made fields goals this season (shared by himself and Jordan Hill). Five other players hit
double-figures as well, led by Jodie Meeks’13th 20-point performance of the season (22) in addition to Ryan Kelly’s 17 off the bench, Nick Young’s 11 as a reserve and 13
and 12, respectively by starters Kendall Marshall and Kent Bazemore. Marshall paired his 13 points with 11 assists, his 13th point/assist double-double of the year, putting
him alone in seventh place in the NBA this season for such an accomplishment.

In a game they controlled for the majority of the night, the Lakers relinquished their lead late and lost on a tip-in basket at the end of regulation to
finish the 2014 preseason at 3-5. Starters Kobe Bryant, Jordan Hill, and Carlos Boozer all rested in the final exhibition game, while Xavier Henry and
Steve Nash were not with the team and Nick Young and Ryan Kelly remained sidelined with their persisting injuries. Additionally, Ronnie Price was
lost for the game after suffering a bone bruise in his right knee in the first quarter, and Wayne Ellington later exited with a concussion after colliding
with Kings guard Ben McLemore (who required stitches himself). The injury plague affected both sides, with Kings forward Rudy Gay leaving in the
second half after catching an elbow to the jaw. Jeremy Lin led all Lakers with 19 off the bench, while Ed Davis concluded his preseason in
resounding fashion with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
