SWCD To Celebrate 70th!
The Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District
(SWCD) will be celebrating its 70th Anniversary
during the Annual Meeting and Banquet on Monday,
November 24, 2014 at the Delaware County Council
for Older Adults Center, at 800 Cheshire Road, Delaware, OH. The event will begin at 6:15 pm with refreshments and the election of SWCD board members.
The elections will be held from 6:15 until 7:00 pm. The
banquet hall will open at 7:00 for dinner which will
include roast beef, garlic mashed potatoes, salad, vegetables, and assorted select desserts. The evening’s program will follow at 7:45 with
guest speaker Lawrence G.

This year there will be one SWCD board member to
elect. Candidates are Rob Rehm, Steve Sheets and
Zachary Taylor. This election will be for the threeyear term beginning January 1, 2015. Candidate profiles and election procedures are enclosed on the inside
of this newsletter.
We hope you will come celebrate 70 years of conservation accomplishments, recognize conservation leaders,
and enjoy a great meal, friends and lively conversation!

SWCD Election Procedures
Per the Ohio Revised Code, SWCD election
procedures are very similar to those of the general
election. Voters will register, be given a ballot, and
be directed to a voting booth where they will mark
their ballot and deposit it in the ballot box. Voting
will begin at 6:15 pm and will close at 7:00 pm. Voting
will take place before the business meeting and you
are not required to register for the meeting to vote.
If unable to attend the meeting, county residents and
landowners have two other options for voting for
SWCD Board candidates. An absentee ballot may be
requested by mail or in person using the form below
no later than Monday, November 17, 2014. Or a vote
may be cast at the District office on the day of and
prior to the Annual Meeting (November 24, 2014)
between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. If you would like more
information about the election or have questions about
these procedures, please contact the District office at

Election Legal Notice
The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission
will cause an election of Supervisors of the Delaware
Soil and Water Conservation District to be held in accordance with Chapter 1515 of the Ohio Revised Code.
Residents or landowners, firms, and corporations that
own land or occupy land in Delaware and are 18 years
of age and older may vote for Supervisor. A nonresident landowner, firm, or corporation must provide an
affidavit of eligibility, which includes designation of a
voting representative prior to casting a ballot.
There are three ways an eligible voter can cast a ballot:
(1) at the annual meeting, which will take place Monday, November 24, 2014 at 6:15 pm; (2) at the SWCD
office until 4:30 pm on November 24th; or (3) vote absentee by requesting the proper absentee request forms
from the SWCD office at Delaware SWCD, 557-A
Sunbury Road, Delaware, OH. 43015. One (1) Supervisor will be elected.
Absentee Voting Procedures
If you are unable to attend the Annual Meeting, you
may request an Absentee Ballot from the District
office. Requests may be made in person at the Delaware
SWCD office or by mail; however, a request made by
mail must be received by Monday, November 17th to
allow sufficient time for mailings. We will accept ONE
request per envelope except in the case of request from
the same household. When sending multiple requests
from the same household, each person must sign the
request form. All absentee ballots must arrive at the District office by 4:30 pm on Monday, November 24, 2014.
No absentee ballots will be accepted at the meeting.

SWCD Board Member Candidates For Election
Rob Rehm ~ Brown Twp.
Rob Rehm is owner of Redde Hedde Farms, a small specialty farm growing primarily
heirloom vegetables for discerning restaurants. The farm operates on a sustainable
agriculture principle combining science and traditional agricultural methods. “Finally an opportunity to put some of that education to use,” states Rehm. Rob’s other
life is commercial construction, primarily restaurants and other food service establishments. The farm is on Veley Road where Carla, two dogs and an organic mouse
eradication unit live.
Steve Sheets ~ Kingston Twp.
Steve and his wife Linda own and operate Sheets Farms, a 700 acre grain farm in Kingston
Township. Steve has used no-tillage and subsurface drainage to enhance his conservation
farming operation. Steve is currently serving his fourth three-year term as SWCD Supervisor
and is a founding member of the Upper Big Walnut Creek Water Quality Partnership. Steve
and Linda are members of the Kilbourne United Methodist Church.
Zach Taylor ~ Radnor Twp.
Zach Taylor lives and farms in Radnor with his father, Tom. They have a 2,200 hog operation, and Zach shows quarter horses, sells seed for Beck’s Hybrids, and grain farms. He is
also on the Delaware County Farm Bureau Board and currently serves as Vice-President.
He received his National FFA American Degree in 2002. He is married to his wife of seven
years, Stephanie and they have a three year old daughter, Shelby.

Wildlife Damage Control
Workshop Coming Soon!
On Thursday, November 13th the Delaware SWCD
will host a workshop featuring ODNR Wildlife Officer Maurice Irish, who will answer questions on how
to control wildlife damage around your home. He
will discuss tools, strategies, and methods to prevent
wildlife damage to plants, shrubs, and trees. Best
management practices for a variety of species such as
deer, rabbit, squirrels, moles, and voles will be covered. Officer Irish will also answer specific questions
you have on other species such as bats and carpenter bees. The workshop will begin at 10:00am in the
Chambers Room of the Powell Municipal Building,
47 Hall St. The workshop is free; however, registration is required so adequate handouts can be made
