Award: up to $20,000 Deadline: October 31, 2014 Megan Meier Memorial Scholarship Eligibility: Seniors that have made a positive impact in regards to the issues surrounding bullying and cyberbullying in their own school environment and community. Must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. Obtain a written recommendation from a member of the faculty or staff at their school. A one to two page essay is required describing how your accomplishments relate to the mission of the Megan Meier Foundation, a list of extracurricular acitvities, description of ways you have proactively helped to lessen all forms of bullying within your school, a list of professional goals after graduation from college, description of why you feel you are a deserving recipient for this scholarship, and a list of any special circumstances you would like the Scholarship Committee to consider when reviewing your application. Award: TBA Deadline: November 7, 2014 Hagen Scholarship Eligibility: Must be a student in the 2015 graduating class and have attended as a junior and senior an eligible high school with a 3.50 GPA and score 23 or higher on an ACT. Family's EFC number on their FAFSA must be less than $7500. If awarded scholarship, student must maintain a 4 year college graduation schedule, maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester of college, must provide an annual report documenting progress towards those personal goals submitted to the grant committee, and must attend mandatory workshops intended to help recipients obtain a practical understanding of important life skills that may not be taught as a part of the school curriculum. Each applicant must authenticate an unmet financial need in order to attend college. Scholarship recipients will be selected based upon character, academic ability, achievement in and out of school, and future promise. The preferred recipient will be a high achieving student with meaningful work or volunteer experience who aspires to obtain a college education in order to realize his or her full potential. Recipients must work a minimum of 240 hours prior to the start of each academic year of college. This scholarship is renewable up to 7 additional semesters. In order to receive the scholarship, parents must also pay their FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) EFC (expected family contribution), if any. Award: up to $5000 per semester (up to 150 scholarships awarded) Deadline: November 15, 2014 Youth Volunteer Scholarship Award Eligibility: Over the past 2 years, a student must have completed a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer work. Applicants must be in their senior year of high school or in a full-time undergraduate academic study. They must major in a conservation or natural resource-related field such as soil science, land use planning, forestry, wildlife management, fisheries, agricultural engineering, hydrology, rural sociology, agronomy, water management, agricultural economics, biology, agricultural education, or related environmental protection or resource management curricula. Financial need will not be a factor in selection. A 3-5 page essay is required. Award: $2000 Deadline: December 1, 2014 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship Eligibility: Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen. Applicant need not be related to a member of the Elks. Male and female students compete separately. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. An essay of no more than 500 words is required. Applications must advance through local, district and state competitions to reach the national competition. Applicant must be involved in the pork industry or the son/daughter of a parent or guardian involved in the pork industry (owner, operator or allied industry). Must be a Missouri resident and have own transportation. Must continue education at a technical school, community college or 4-year university. The ambassador will be required to attend six events throughout the year and will be asked to set up a booth promoting pork at the county fair. Must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Special consideration will be given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health and/or emergency-preparedness. Award: State Level - $10,000 (52), National Level - $25,000 (10) includes state award Deadline: December 15th, only the first 10,000 applications will be accepted. Burger King Scholars Program Eligibility: Recipients are selected based on their gpa, work experience, extracurricular activities and/or community service. Students must hold a current NWTF membership, be involved in school activities, demonstrate ability as a leader among peers, and demonstrate community leadership and/or involvement. Award: $1000 (16) Deadline: January 31, 2015 ESA Foundation Epsilon Sigma Alpha Epsilon Sigma Alpha International is a philanthropic service organization. The Epsilon Sigma Alpha Foundation is a non-profit/tax exempt organization which operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. There are a total of 43 Missouri scholarships. There is no scholarship application limit. Students may be awarded more than one scholarship. Eligibility: Available for 4-year colleges, community colleges, trade schools and graduate degrees. The age range for recipients is 15 – 55 years old. You do not have to be a high school senior to apply. Students may apply for as many scholarships as they meet the criteria, but there is a $5 processing fee for every scholarship. Many of them have specific requirements to be eligible. Award: $500 to $2500 Deadline: February 2, 2015 KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program Eligibility: Seniors enrolling in a public or university within their state of residence and pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Award: up to $5000 per year and renewable up to four years Deadline: February 8, 2015 Sweet and Simple Scholarship: Eligibility: 13 years or older and be currently enrolled or plan to enroll no later than fall of 2021 in a post-secondary institution. Pick up an application in the guidance office. Award: $500 (3) Deadline: March 10, 2015 Anthem Essay Contest Eligibility: 8th, 9th, and 10th graders – essay must be between 600 and 1200 words. Award: $1000 (several) to be used on tuition and books Deadline: April 15, 2015 The American Legion Scholarships Basic criteria for all: Resident of Missouri, under age 21, unmarried, and a descendent of a veteran with at least ninety days active service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge for such service. A photocopy of the veteran’s DD 214, discharge or separation notice must accompany the scholarship application. Any additional requirements for each scholarship are below. Students can pick up applications in the guidance office or can visit www.missourilegion.org. All deadlines for American Legion Scholarships: April 20, 2015, except Shane Dean Voyles – see below for special instructions. Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship Eligibility: Two awards will be given – one to a boy who has attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri or a full session of the Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy. The second award is given to a girl who has attended a full session of The American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program or a full session of the Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy. Award: $1000 (one for a boy and one for a girl) M.D. “Jack” Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Fund Eligibility: One award given to a boy or girl training to be a registered nurse, and may be used in their freshman or subsequent college years. The student must have graduated in the top forty percent of their high school class or have a “C” or equivalent standing from their last college or university semester. Award: $750, payable at $375 per semester and may, by application, be extended for two additional successive semesters. Joseph J. Frank Scholarship Eligibility: Five awards given to individuals who are descendants of a veteran. Applicant must have attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State or The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. Scholarship must be used for full time attendance. Award: $500 (5) Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship Eligibility: Two awards to individuals who are currently members of The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of The American Legion, or a descendant of a member of any thereof. Recipient must use scholarship as a full time student. Award: $500 (2) Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Eligibility: Two awards to a student planning on obtaining a degree in education. Recipient must use award as a full time student, and submit an essay of 500 words or less on the following subject – In your opinion, what was the most significant world event of 2014/2015? Award: $500 (2) Shane Dean Voyles Memorial Scholarship Eligibility: One award given based on financial need, participation in athletics, participation in school activities/clubs, volunteer work, exceptional leadership qualities, high moral standards and extreme patriotism. This will allow time to vote on which student’s application will be submitted Peter Pasula Study Habits Scholarship Eligibility: Be attending an accredited post-secondary institution by the fall of 2015. Student can be enrolled at any level in any program that is two years in length or longer. Students must answer the essay question on the website online application form.
