It was at Clarion that Ms. Endres discovered she loved children and that
grew into a desire to become a
teacher. She draws upon her personal
experience as a young, struggling student to formulate strategies to make
positive impact on the students in her
own classroom.

Carly Enders joins Immaculata this
school year as the KC teacher – bringing with her a wonderful personality
and a warm smile. She greets every
situation with a positive attitude and
her classroom reflects this.
Ms. Endres grew up in Washington,
Pennsylvania, a small town with a
population under 14,000. As an elementary student, she found school
challenging. But, by the time she
reached high school, she had improved herself as a student and went
on to attend Clarion University.
We hope you and your family will
have a chance to see the school art
exhibit in the Fine Arts and Photography Competition in the Scott Graham
Building. The fair opened at the state
fairgrounds on Thursday, October 16
and runs through Sunday, October
26th.

Thank you Immaculata friends for the love
and support you have shown our family. The
love, support and prayer is almost tangible to
us and it’s truly helping us through each day.
We will be using the donated funds to help
pay for nursing care, which allows me to
keep working. This has been a tremendous
gift to our family and we are very thankful!

8 Days and Counting!!!
PRIMARY DIVISION
Fall is in the air… and Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
grades are embracing it creatively — from a field trip to a
pumpkin farm to Fall-themed art project, spelling words,
and writing assignments.
INTERMEDIATE DIVISION
Fifth grade students recently read about the Titanic. A science/technology/engineering/math (STEM) lesson followed with the challenge to build a life boat that could hold
35 people (represented as marbles) afloat for 90 seconds.
Students were given foil, marbles, a container of water and
a timer. Students’ designs were very clever, such as building
in air pockets to keep the boats afloat!
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Electives are up and running. This quarter students were
able to chose from the following electives: Guitar, Spanish
Enrichment, Video Production, Vocal Club, Art Club,
Robotics, Band, Yearbook, Community Service, Ultimate
Frisbee, Study Skills, Creative Writing, Shakespeare,
Newspaper, Hand Bells, Worship Club, Drama, Quilting,
Tai Chi, and Gardening.

Cold & Flu Season
On November 11th
an open gym will be
held for students
interested in cheerleading this year.
Students wanting to
attend should report
to Fellowship Hall at
3:30. Pick up will be
at 4:30 in front of the
school. Contact Ms.
Endres (endresc@
icdurham.org) with
any questions.
Please consult your parent handbook
for our usual health precautions.
Keeping your child home until they
are free of a fever for 24 hours is a
good rule for all of us. At school, we
will continue to wash hands, clean
common areas, and encourage students to cough or sneeze into a sleeve
and away from others.
Ebola
Fortunately, there is no cause for
alarm at present. We will remain in
contact with local and federal public
health officials if there is a cause for
concern.
What should I know as I seek to protect
my family's health?
You should monitor your travel
and your contact with people who
have recently returned from a location where there is an Ebola outbreak.
 Ebola is not contagious until symptoms appear. Ebola is not an airborne virus. It is spread through
direct contact with blood or body
fluids (such as urine, saliva, sweat,
feces, vomit, or semen) of an infected person, or with objects like
needles that have been contaminated with the virus.
 Presently, Ebola poses little risk to
the general population in the
United States.
 It is always good to wash your
hands regularly with soap and water. If this is not available, use hand
sanitizer. This is a universal precaution to help you avoid many different illnesses.

The Centers for Disease Control and
Protection (CDC) offers more data at
the following site: http://
wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/advice-for
-colleges-universities-and-studentsabout-ebola-in-west-africa?_cldeeamZhcmJlckBybGR0cmFpbC5vcmc=
If you are traveling, please consult the
CDC site for the most up-to-date
travel advisories. Though Guinea,
Liberia, and Sierra Leone are the initial countries of concern, it is prudent
to watch for changes to the areas of
risk and places you choose to travel.
For CDC travel Health Notices go to:

If we have an Ebola outbreak in North
Carolina, what will happen?
If there is an Ebola case reported in
our area, a Center for Disease Control
(CDC) Response Team will arrive in a
few hours at the hospital that receives
a confirmed patient with Ebola. The
CDC Response Team will provide the
personnel for support and training on
infection control, healthcare safety,
medical treatment, contact tracing,
waste and decontamination, public
education, and other issues that are
site specific. The CDC Response
Team coordinates clinicians and state
and local public health practitioners
to ensure strict standards for the the
safety of the patient, the public, and
healthcare workers.
