Creativity Exercise:
Stack Your Bench
with Champions and Geniuses
When developing your Advisory Council you need two types
of people, Champions and Geniuses. In this case, Champions
don’t need any specific skills, just passion. This group is small,
collaborative, and committed. Geniuses have special skills in
areas that you need guidance for. Their involvement is limited
and specific to their skill set. They are only called upon when
needed. This will allow your team to keep passion at its core
and endless talent to draw from as needs change and grow.
Who would you enlist in your Core Team of Champions and
Board of Geniuses? Make a list of who you will invite to be a
part of your Advisory Council in these capacities.

Fruit from The Funding Tree
“To Be, or Not to Be”
Writing and Editing Tips
Con“Grant”ulations!
1. Be clear: You know all about your work, but your readers
don’t Clearly explain everything.
2. Be concise: Every word should work; delete freeloaders. All
sentences and paragraphs should pass the “so what?” test. Also,
watch out for redundancies!
3. Be jargon-free: Ask yourself, “Would my readers use this term
themselves?”, “Does the term mean the same thing to them as it
does to me?”
4. Be smooth: Use transition words: initially, however, therefore, in
addition, for example, although, finally, in conclusion.
5. Be vivid: Use strong verbs that convey your exact meaning and
create a picture in your reader’s mind.
6. Do not Be in a Rush: Let ideas germinate. Take a break from
your draft. Give your subconscious mind time to undergo the
creative process! Jot down ideas whenever they visit you.
7. Do not Be a Lone Ranger: Ask a colleague or outside expert to
read your piece as your intended reader.
