This booklet is a “GUIDE” for grade 12 students and their parents.
The information in this booklet is a record of all the awards that were available to
the graduating students of 2014/2015.
Please Note: The Award donors set the criteria for each award and also set the
application deadlines for each award.
All 2014– 2015 award, bursary & scholarship deadlines will be advertised in

Program. Students spend a month living in residence at one of our host university
campuses across Canada. The program is offered to students currently completing grade
10, 11 or 12. With a focus that includes the sciences, technology and entrepreneurship,
the program provides an academically stimulating, mind expanding adventure for top
well-rounded students. Students will also enjoy recreational activities and the opportunity
to explore local attractions.

Additional Sources of Funding
Numerous bursaries and scholarships at the school, district, and provincial level are available to
students of Rutland Senior. Students can also receive financial assistance through interest free
loans. Information concerning these forms of assistance and awards can be obtained from the
counsellors. The main forms of financial aid are the following:
Passport to Education
If students achieve final letter grades which place them in the top 30% of their grade based
on their top 5 full-year marks, they will receive credits to be redeemed within five years from
graduation by enrolling in any Ministry of Education approved post-secondary institution or
job training program
Value of the credits in 2011-12 is anticipated to be:

Grade 12 students can pick up passports from the main office in September following their
grad year.
This will be the last year for this program as it is being phased out by the government.
Ministry of Education Scholarships
There are two major scholarship programs sponsored by the Ministry of Education:
Graduation Program Exam Scholarships and District Scholarships. A student may receive
both.
1. Graduation Program Examinations Scholarships

Graduation Program Exam Scholarships are based on performance on Provincial
examinations written grades 10-12. These awards are of $1,000 each and given to each
student whom meets the following criteria (The top twenty students in the province receive
awards of $2,500 each.).
To be eligible for a Grad Program Exam Scholarship a student must:








Meet the basic eligibility requirements
Fulfills the BC graduation requirements of either the 2004 grad program or Adult
Grad

Dogwood District Authority Awards are given to graduating students who have excelled in
fields other than academics. Requirements are determined by the local District Scholarship
Committee. Winners of these scholarships receive a $500 cheque and an additional $500 if
they enroll in a recognized post-secondary institution.
To qualify, a student must:

be nominated by their teacher
present a portfolio or project to be videotaped to the local scholarship committee of
courses that are career oriented (Art, Music, Mechanics, Construction, Home Economics,

 Must be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant.
 Must have applied and plan to attend full-time at a post-secondary institution in
