Eligibility Requirements . . .




Complete Prerequisite course work: Applicants must complete all prerequisite courses, with a B- grade minimum, prior to applying to
the nursing program. All prerequisite courses, except BIOL 1010 which requires a C- minimum, will be used to calculate the admission
GPA.
Course work, with minimum grade requirement, must be on an official transcript by the end of an application period.
Pass/Fail or Credit/No Credit Grades and ACT scores are not accepted for prerequisite course work
AP Credits: AP credits can be accepted as fulfilling prerequisite requirements. For purposes of calculating the GPA, a score of 3 = B+, 4 =
A-, and 5 = A.
Repeating Course Work for a better grade is an option but each course can only be repeated once within a 5-year time period. Only the
most recent grade will satisfy degree requirement and be factored in nursing application.
TAKE TEAS TEST: UVU nursing department uses the latest test available. Currently that is version V. In order to take the test, see prenursing counselor for a TEAS voucher. Exam study material is available at www.atitesting.com.
English Language Proficiency requirement must be met by all applicants, for whom English is a second language. A minimum TOEFL score of 560 written,
220 computer or 83 IBT, taken within the past 2 years. The TOEFL must be provided with the nursing application. English proficiency is a safety issue
within the nursing profession. Discuss TOEFL options with pre-nursing counselor.

Competitive Application Process. . .



Entry into the program is determined by a 2-part, point-based, COMPETITIVE Process, THERE IS NO WAITING LIST!
Each application for acceptance into the UVU Nursing Department is made for a specific semester only. The nursing department does not
forward applications or acceptance to future semesters.
Applications are available during the following times at www.uvu.edu/csh/nursing:
FALL Application Opens: 3rd Monday in April
SPRING Application Opens: 3rd Monday in August
1.
2.
3.
4.
Application Closes: 3rd Friday in May
Application Closes: 3rd Friday in September
Fill out nursing application form completely.
Have final grades posted on an official college transcript. If you are a transfer student submit official transcripts to UVU Admissions
Office at least 3 weeks prior to end of application. Courses taken at UVU and courses that have been transferred and articulated will not
need to submit an official transcript with the application.
Submit the results page only of your TEAS Test version V.
Submit TOEFL results if English is your second language.
PART ONE: To be invited to interview, applicant points are determined based on the following criteria
Percentage
Factor
Which includes . . .
60%
GPA
CHEM 1110, ENGL 1010, NUTR 1020, ZOOL 2320, ZOOL 2420, MATH 1050, and PSY 1100
40%
TEAS
English, Math, Reading, Science, and overall comprehensive scores with EACH score worth a max of 160 points.
Scores
Eligible tests must have a 50% or higher on each section.
Top applicants from the TEAS and GPA points are invited to an interview via UVLINK email. The number of applications varies by semester
and affects the number interviewed. Due to limited time and space not all applicants receive an invitation to interview. Average application GPA
range to receive an interview is 3.5 to 4.0. Mean GPA is 3.75. TEAS test range is 75-92. Mean TEAS score is 82.5
PART TWO: Nursing Department Interview.
The interview process is standardized to ensure that each candidate interviewed has an equal opportunity to be objectively evaluated. If selected
to interview by nursing department, read letter, follow directions, and study the suggested material sent by the nursing office. Interviews take
approximately 2.5 hours. An interview does not guarantee acceptance. Up to 40 interviewed candidates will be selected, notified, and offered
positions in the Nursing Program. A group of alternates will also be selected and notified. If accepted you must meet all deadlines. Failure to do so
will forfeit your position and it will be offered to an alternate. Applicants may only interview twice in a 5 year time frame.
Prepare as you would for a PROFESSIONAL Job Interview. Read the material and instructions sent with your invitation to interview. At UVU, the
Career Development Center in LC 409 helps students with professional interview skills.
Nursing Program Acceptance . . .
Acceptance is contingent upon:
1. Providing satisfactory results of both a federal background check and a drug screen. (Approximate Cost of $90)
2. Completion of required immunizations, current CPR certification, and physical exam.
3. Attendance at the mandatory department orientation.
4. Providing nursing department with requested documentation by deadlines given.
Failure to meet any of the above requirements jeopardizes your acceptance.
Student Responsibilities . . .
The responsibility for satisfying all requirements rests upon the student.
