IN THE SPOTLIGHT…
Terianne Carroll - Human Resources Administrative Assistant
Where were you born & raised? What was special about where you were from? I was born in Boston, MA and grew up in Quincy, MA. Boston is a great city and Quincy was a wonderful place to grow
up. We lived by the ocean. I miss living in Massachusetts and especially miss my family and the food.
However, not enough to move back, I don’t miss the snow!
Tell us about your family, people (including pets!) in your life…Hobbies? Favorite Activities? My
family recently grew by 1. My Husband Jack and I welcomed our first child, Jack Jr. in July. He is a
wonderful baby and brings so much joy to our lives. Right now, all of my spare time is spent enjoying
my family.
Who has been the most influential person in your life and why? What’s the best advice you ever
received? My parents have been the most influential. They have been amazing role models for marriage, parenting and hard work. They believe in enjoying life and have always said “If you’re doing
something that makes you unhappy, stop doing it.” I have followed that advice many times.
What is the career & training path that led you to the Districts? Two years after college I started
working for a Finance company as an Administrative Assistant. I was eventually promoted to HR Liaison and really enjoyed learning
about Human Resources. I started working for Public Safety when I first came to the District. I liked working in Public Safety and
miss the team I worked with. When an opportunity opened up in HR, I was very happy, especially to stay working for the District.
What is your favorite aspect of working for the Districts? I work with a great group in Human Resources! I learn something new
every day and I’m really enjoying it!.
My favorites: Movie: Two Weeks Notice...Television Show: Nashville...Sports Team: New England Patriots...Vacation Spot: Any
warm location I can get to on a cruise ship...Restaurant/Food/Dessert: Regina Pizza/Pizza/Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Pam Norman - Community Watch Dispatch Supervisor
Where were you born & raised? What was special about where you were from? I
was born in Burbank, CA raised in New York, Montreal and Vermont and moved here from
Fargo, North Dakota. I went to school in Vermont, Minnesota, Nebraska and North Dakota. The Green Mountains, Fall Foliage, Maple syrup and fluffy white snow in Vermont. In
North Dakota the people are fabulous, must be because the weather is so cold.
Tell us about your family, people (including pets!) in your life…Hobbies? Favorite
Activities? I am single and live with two four footed puppies named Suzi and Moppet who
report me to canine social services for working too much. Reading, classical music, training the pups, streaming British Mysteries from BBC, knitting and needlepoint. The most interesting thing I’ve ever seen is the curvature of the earth from a Concorde airplane flying at MACH2 and two miles altitude.
Who has been the most influential person in your life and why? What’s the best advice you ever received? My father, he
taught me to own up to my mistakes and wrongs as the consequences would be less severe than if I lied about them. He was right!
What is the career & training path that led you to the Districts? Retirement, I’m somewhat of a “jack of all trades, master of
none.” I am a registered nurse, have been a banker, small business owner and older than average student and back to nursing.
Right now I’m on a learning curve. I have been a regular dispatcher for 4.5 years and recently was asked to be a substitute for the
Supervisor. Rather unexpectedly I’ve found myself working as a substitute supervisor on a regular basis, hence the learning curve.
What is your favorite aspect of working for the Districts? It has given me an opportunity to grow and learn new things.
My favorites : Movie: Good Will Hunting...Television Show: Anything on PBS...Sports Team: Depends on where I am, I am now
favoring Florida teams...Vacation Spot: Ireland...Restaurant/Food/Dessert: Casa Mia/Any good Italian/Chocolate covered
potato chips

District Employees Caught in the Act!
While out taking Audit pictures of the various Districts, Robin
MacGowan, Finance Sr. Accountant and Cheryl Prevete,
Finance Staff Coordinator assisted a couple who were lost. The
couple was trying to get to a friend’s house in Woodbury and they
could not locate the village or the road. Robin and Cheryl knew
the location and had the couple follow them to the location. The
couple was overjoyed and could not thank them enough for their
hospitality and kindness.
Firefighter/Paramedic Gabriel Pantely and Firefighter/
Paramedic Robert Smiley were thanked by a resident for
installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The resident
stated that Gabriel and Robert were polite and professional.
Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Twiss and Firefighter/Paramedic

carbon monoxide detector. The resident expressed that this was a
wonderful service.
A resident expressed appreciation for the Recreation department,
specifically Phillip Munden, Recreation Assistant, Robert
Winder, Recreation Assistant, and Danny Jacobs, Recreation
Facilities Manager. The resident stated, “I have always had
wonderful help from the folks who work there (Chatham Recreation Center). Phil and Bob are fabulous to work with. They could
not be more helpful. I always look forward to working with these
two along with the other employees there. Recently I have had
some contacts with Danny at Mulberry, what a delightful young
man. Thank you so much for everything your department does to
make this the best place to live.”
Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Keller and Firefighter/EMT John
Anderson were thanked for installing smoke detectors for a
resident. The resident was appreciative that they answered all of
her questions and were very informative. She was extremely
pleased and very thankful we offer this service.

a resident out of a house fire. The resident was dependent on a
wheel chair and might not have been able to get out. The situation
could have had a different outcome had it not been for Robert’s
actions.
HIGH PRAISE FOR PUBLIC SAFETY
Chief Cain received Congratulations and Public Safety received high praise from a retired public safety resident.
Here are some of the nice words he expressed, “I, of course,
have been observing the operations of your department and
have been very impressed by the facilities, the equipment,
and especially the professionalism of your responders. We
recently had a lightning strike close to my home and the response would be the envy of most communities. Although I
didn’t see the operations from the very beginning, what I
saw could have been used as a training film. Every piece of
equipment was properly placed, from the IC, to the engines,
and the aerial piece. Today I called headquarters…...the
lady who answered that phone was clear, polite, friendly,
and helpful. Fairly or not, an organization is often judged by
the first voice or person that the public makes contact
with…...she certainly put your department in the best light
possible.”
Thank you for Exemplifying
Our Core Values!

WANT TO SAVE MONEY?
“Do It Yourself” Savings Tips
- Shorten your dryer-vent hose. First, disconnect it and vacuum it out. Then trim the hose length so that it's just long enough
for you to pull the dryer a few feet out from the wall. A short
and unobstructed line makes your dryer run more efficiently.
The cost is free, you can save $25 a year on electric, gas, or
propane, and your clothes will dry about 20% faster.
- Borrow specialized tools, gas-powered post-hole diggers and
table-mounted routers from other Do It Yourself renovators for
a small fee. The cost is $1 to $100 per day and can save you
$50 or more.
Congratulations to
The Villages CERT!
