1. Describe a time when you learned a new subject.
When I was in junior high, I had to learn English for the first time, and it
was really hard for me to pick up at first. The words, grammar and sentence patterns
are just so different from Chinese. But with the help of my English teacher, I
gradually learnt some basic words and useful phrases, and I started practicing
English with foreigner whenever I got a chance, the more I acquire, the more I am
willing to learn and I put more effort and I am determined to be really good in English.
Now, after so many years, I am still a big fan of the English language, and I cannot
live a single day without it.
2. Which of the following volunteer work would you choose and why?
1. Working as a home tutor 2. Helping adults 3. Helping old people
If I were given a chance to do some volunteer, I would help the seniors. Now
there are more and more retirees in my country, and the nursing homes and senior
center are not doing a very good job to help the seniors. There are quite a few things
that I can do to help the seniors, I can read them newspapers, to help them get access
to what is happening around the world. I also could assist them to tidy up their
rooms so they might have a very good mood everyday. Apart from that, I can just talk
with them, seniors get lonely easily, and by interacting with them, they will feel
a sense of belong to the community and that there are someone out there who care
about them. With all the above reasons and more, I would volunteer to help seniors.
3. Describe a job you admired but you will NOT choose it yourself.
I think the job that admire is the government official, I would say it is the
most challenging profession, they are responsible to solve complex social problems
like, education, Medicare, and the economy of the region or country. These issues
are just tricky and hard to deal with. Another reason that I admire them is that

they have to sacrifice their private life to public scrutiny and they have no privacy,
like living in a golden fish in a bowl. This is a very noble profession, however
I admire the profession, I would not dare to become the government official.
4. Talk about an organization or a club that you would like to join. Explain
why you would like to join this organization? Please include reasons and details
in your response.
I would like to join in the swimming club, cuz if I joined the club, I would
have a chance to compete with my teammates to represent my university. That would
be a great honor to get to do that. In some competitions, I have to work my teammates
to win the game, and it gives me a strong sense of belonging and I feel I am needed
by the team, my teammate and I would cheer up each other and get inspirations,
encouragements from my fellow teammate. On top that, I am a big swimming fan, when
I am swimming in the pool, I feel so relaxed and it is a very good way to keep fit.
5. Which of the following art class would you be more interested in taking?
Wood sculpture, painting and photography
I would say I like to take the photography class, I have a very genuine interest
in photographing, and I am very passionate about expressing myself through imageries.
I take pictures to record my own life, and it is a very good way to reflect the past,
also I like to help others to remember their precious moments by photos, like their
weddings, graduation ceremonies and some other special events. I just feel that when
I am not using my camera, there is a void in my life. But I still need to get better
in photographing, so I would like to take this class.
6. Describe an important day in your life.
The most important day in my life was my college graduation day. I graduated
from a prestigious university in the Unites States, but it was challenging for me.
Four years before I graduated from college, the first time I set foot on the land
of America, I felt so isolated and had tremendous language barriers. However, during

my four years in college, I not only improved my English language proficiency, but
also kept a high GPA and was on the dean's list every year. But, I know that this
day does not come easy, it symbolizes the time and effort I put to get my diploma.
7. I you were asked to do some community service. Which of the three would like
to choose and why?
1. help children with their homework 2. teach adults using computer 3. clean

If I were to do some community service, I would choose to teach adults using
computer. Lots of adults, especially people around my parents' age, they got used
to do things in old fashioned ways, however, today people use computer for everything,
like watching news, watching movies, listening to music, and even doing shopping
on-line. Every one should have the right to use computers, not just the young
generation. Apart from that, computer is a must in a working environment, people
use computer to do all kinds of work in a company, like sending emails, filing paper
works, and even using excel to create tables and charts. I think it is really
meaningful to teach adults to use computers.
8. Describe a type of music that you would like not to listen to.
Well, this is a very interesting question and I have never thought about it.
Generally, I like all kinds of music that is catchy and rhythmic. Since I am a person
who likes peace and inner solitude, so I guess I do not like to listen to music that
is very harsh and noisy, like rock and roll, and I think heavy metal is the worst.
The only reason I listen to music is to get some relaxation and enjoy my free time,
however whenever I listen to heavy metal, I feel I am so disturbed and very
uncomfortable.
9. Describe a way of life in your country has been changed and why it is
beneficial.

I would say the big change in my country is the construction of the express train
or bullet train to put it in another way. To begin with, it is now super convenient
for people to travel somewhere, like in the past, it took me 5 hours to go to Beijing
by regular train. Now it only takes me an hour and a half and actually it is no so
expensive. Secondly, speaking on a larger perspective, the construction of the
express train helps to boast the economy of the country. For instance, lots of jobs
are created, cuz new rail ways need to be built, so more worker are needed.
10. Describe a family member who has a different personality from you and explain
why?
I would my dad has a totally different personality from me. I am very passionate
and optimistic person, and I like constantly taking challenges in my life and do
something that I have never experienced before, like studying abroad. However, my
dad is quite a conservative person, he would never do something that will make him
stand out, and frankly, he is kind of pessimistic and sometimes cynical about the
world, specifically, he would complain about negative things in life instead of
thinking on the bright side.
11. What do you think is the most important for a new working environment?
When in a new working environment I believe it is important to be open-minded,
observant, personable and flexible. As a new employee or co-worker everything and
everyone is new to you and it may be overwhelming at first. There will be many things
to learn and people to meet, so you should keep an open mind. Next, as a newcomer,
you should be observant of those training you and pay attention to the daily routines,
you should also be personable and approachable as you interact with different levels
of the organization.
12. Your friend is dropping out of college, do you think it is a good thing?
Personally, I think it is at least not a bad thing to do. As we can tell, lots
of college students and even graduate students find it hard to land satisfying job

upon graduation. I think it makes more sense to me if my friend drops college. He
should not wander around after dropping out, instead he should find a part time job
that he likes, so he will be exposed to the real world, and get firsthand experience
working in a particular area.

1. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement. Young people know
the world better than their parents when their parents were their age.
I do agree that Young people know the world better than their parents when their
parents were their age. I think modern technology plays a very decisive role in this,
a few decades ago, there was no Internet, and computers were not available in every
household, even telephones were not so popular. These sophisticated technologies
help a lot to spread information and knowledge in different areas, young people today
are lucky enough to employ these technologies to learn about the world, explosive
news can spread faster than ever before, all it takes is just a touch on your smart
phone and the world is in front of you, unfortunately, our parents did not have the
privilege to have this when they were young.
2. Some people prefer to read or watch news every day, others prefer to read
or watch new regularly. Which do you prefer and why?
I would say I prefer to read or watch news everyday, and I have a few reasons
for support. Firstly, having access to news is very easy for me, just using my finger
to touch the screen of my smart, I am able to know what is happening around the world,
it does not cost me a lot time, I can do it when waiting for the bus, or even during
my lunch break. Secondly, I think it is really essential for me to know what is
happening around the globe, and it matters a lot in this modern world to get access
to breaking news, sometimes, it does not make any sense to know the news the next
day, the reason why it is called news is that it is momentary.

3. When reading a book, some people would like to finish it all at once, others
would like to read only a part of the book and then go back to read it, Which do
you prefer and why?
I would like to finish a book all at once if I have enough time. A book that
is fun to read can attract readers and it is very hard for them to put it down for
even one minute, especially a novel with intriguing storyline, I feel so connected
to the characters in it that I cannot help but to finish all at once. Additionally,
if you do not finish the book all at once, you might forget what he or she has already
covered in the book, and find it difficult to read the following parts, so we have
to go back for the important information, otherwise we cannot understand. For the
above reasons and more, I find it better to finish the book all at once.
4. Do you think government should spend money on saving the endangered animals
or the money has to come from private sources?
I would say it is definitely the government's responsibility to save the
endangered species, and I have two reasons for support. Firstly, the government has
all the resources need to preserve the wide animals, like research facilities,
natural conservation areas, and even different science foundations. Secondly,
government is supposed to take care the country, a big part of that responsibility
is to save the endangered species from going extinct. It is not even possible for
private firms or individuals to take such a huge responsibility.
5. If you have time, would choose to learn to play a new musical instrument
or learn to play a new sport?
I would definitely choose to play a new sport. I find it very relaxing when I
play sports, it helps me to release my tension and depression that I got from both
my life and study. Apart from that, playing sports is a very good way to keep healthy
and try to be in good shape. It helps you to build up some muscles and be athletic,
it is also good for your cardio vascular system. Lastly, I get a chance to meet new

friends and broaden my social network when playing a sport, getting to know different
people is a very thrilling experience for me.
6. Some people like to stay at home and reading books or studying, while others
like to socialize and relax with friends. Which do you prefer?
I would say I definitely will hang out with my friends, as an extremely outgoing
individual, I find it more interesting when spending time with friends like doing
karaoke, eating out in a fine restaurant, and even playing some sports. By
interacting with my friends, I get quite a few benefits, like I can broaden my horizon
and have unique perspective on things. Also, when we do stuff together, I feel like
I can connect more with them emotionally, and that helps to sustain our friendship
forever, and I think it is safe to say that at least human beings are social animals,
we need to socialize with people to be happy and fulfilling.
7. Some students prefer to study for only one long time during a week. Others
students prefer to study for several short times during a week. Which way do you
prefer and why?
I prefer to study for several short times instead of studying for a long time
during a week and have the following reason for support. You know, as a college
student I am very busy with all kinds of studies, we have different kinds of
assignments, like presentations, group projects, papers to write and exams. Studying
for several short time makes it possible for us to take a rest once in a while, however,
studying for a long time during a week without any break will kill me and of course,
we will be so worn out and not as productive as studying for several short time.
8. Some people like to participate in activities alone, others like to do that
with a team or group. Which way do you prefer and why?
Personally, I would like to participate in activities in a group, I am an
extrovert and outgoing person, and I think it is more fun when there are people around
me. Plus, I can also learned the importance of cooperation and responsibility when

I am with a team, for example in a sport competition, me and my teammate struggle
together for a common goal, offer each other motivation along the way, and I feel
that I care something bigger than myself during the game, and I think this is very
meaningful.
9. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement. Watching TV is not
a way to use time.
I think it really depends, TV programs like documentaries can be very informative,
and they target different kinds of audience. They cover lots of topics like sports,
animal world, history, and even religions. You can really learn a lot about all kinds
of stuff. It is very good to watch these shows, however, if someone is indulged in
watching meaningless TV programs like different kind of reality shows and even some
of the TV sit-coms, it might cast a huge negative impact on their study and work.
To sum up, it you are capable of striking a balance between watching good TV shows
and meaningless one, watching TV is very good way to use time.
10. Do you prefer to live in a place where you have access to transportations
and shops or somewhere distant but quiet areas.
Living in a place where there is no noise is absolutely my choice. A place like
the suburb or country far away from the noise and pollution is very favorable to
me, even though it might not be convenient to live in. I hate the hustle and bustle
of the city. Especially, I spend almost all my life living in the city to suffer
the noise and be choked by the polluted air, I want to get away from the city. I
like the solitude, clear skies, and peaceful evenings in the suburbs or country and
it is pretty romantic. Living in suburbs or country makes it possible for me to be
close to mother nature.
11. Some people like participate an activity in a team, other like to do that
alone. Which way do you prefer and why?
