Tradewomen’s Guild (TWG)
A bright future for SCWL
The TWG is a new project from SCWL that works with
volunteer female and male mentors to provide support,
guidance and practical advice for young women who are
seeking or already employed as an apprentice or trainee
in a male dominated trade.
So far this financial year, SCWL has lodged funding
applications with the NSW and Commonwealth
Governments for projects with a combined value in
excess of $1 million.
Funded by the NSW Government, our mission is to
encourage, support and inspire young women to enter
and succeed in a non-traditional trade with a skill
shortage.
The TWG will utilise traditional mentoring practices that
focus on developing the abilities of apprentices and
trainees by pairing them with an experienced mentor. In
addition, SCWL has expanded the format to include ementoring and the delivery of inspirational school and
industry based seminars.
Potential mentors will be screened for suitability and
provided with non-accredited training prior to joining the
Guild. You can be assured that our TWG mentors will
offer young women valuable life experience, knowledge,
skills and insights through respectful communication and
collaborative learning.
Please telephone or visit our website if you would like to
learn more about the Tradewomen’s Guild Eurobodalla
and Bega Valley.

SCWL Project Officer for the
Tradewomen’s Guild.
In keeping with our Mission to create life, learning and
workplace choices, SCWL has collaborated with a range
of stakeholders to develop these proposals that will
deliver outcomes with the expertise we have acquired
over ten years and the lessons learned from partnerships
including Work Inspiration, PACTS and Girls in Trades.
Government decisions on these tenders are expected in
the December – January period.
To help prepare for future operations, SCWL is
conducting a business survey with our strategic or
business partners to investigate the viability of a
commercial arm of our organisation.
If the survey results are favourable, the next phase of the
business model will seek further input with a view to
forming a ‘Specialist Co-op’. This will see SCWL acting as
a hub for practitioners to work in coordinated teams and
utilise new technologies to deliver high quality services
and projects to governments, NGOs, community
organisations and businesses in a timely manner.
Please contact me on 4474 5134 if you’ve not heard from
us and you’d like to be involved in the business survey or
the Specialist Co-op.
Cheers
Steve Picton
