OCTOBER 25 & 26, 2014 THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMES MASS INTENTIONS A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Friends in Christ, As we near the end of October, the month of the Holy Rosary, we invite you to our final night to pray the rosary as a parish family – this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. It has been very edifying to see the large numbers of people attend this public manifestation of prayer. The RCIA program, or Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, is in the process of forming. Some people are scared away by the idea that this is a program which lasts from now until Easter. It’s really not that bad. The time goes quickly as the truths of the Catholic faith are explored. Also, people are not disqualified from the program if they miss a week every now and again for sickness or personal reasons. So, if you know one of those people who is “on the fence” about this program, assure them that we work with personal schedules. Tell your spouse or neighbor who has been thinking about the Catholic faith that this is the year they should do this. Please call Jim Malinowski at 215 673 5177, ext. 28, any time day or night. Just leave your name and phone number if he isn’t in his office. We are waiting to hear from you. This Saturday is the Feast of All Saints. Although this is usually a holy day of obligation, the obligation is suspended this year because the feast falls on a Saturday. In that light, we have also suspended the usual holy day schedule. We still encourage you to attend Mass at 8 am on Saturday to honor the Saints in Heaven. Sunday is the Feast of All Souls. On this day, the Church throughout the world remembers the faithful departed and all the souls in Purgatory – yes, we still do believe in Purgatory! We have sent envelopes to your home for you to inscribe the names of your beloved dead which we will have next to the Tabernacle in Church for the entire month of November, which is the month of the Holy Souls. Additional envelopes are at the doors of the Church. Please place your All Souls envelopes in the collection basket with the regular collection or mail/ drop them off at the parish office. Although it is customary to place a financial contribution in the envelope, it is not necessary to do so. Please give us the names of your beloved dead so that they can be remembered at Mass. Monday, November 3rd is our Annual Memorial Mass which we will have at 7:30 pm. We will have more about that in next week’s bulletin. You will note that our annual appeal which we call the “Block Collection” has gone beyond the halfway mark. Thanks to all who have sent in your donations to this important appeal. This is the appeal which goes exclusively to repairs and improvements in our parish plant and property. Many of you have called attention to the repairs needed in our parking lot. Mike Sweeney, our wonderful plant manager, has assured me that this will be taken care of very soon. If you have misplaced the envelope sent to your home, we have additional ones at the doors of the Church. Thanks for all of your support to our parish. Asking the Lord’s blessings on all of you, I leave you In the peace of Christ, - PAGE 2 - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2014 5:00 pm Vigil — Patricia DeMartinis SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2014 7:30 am — Warren Johnson (24th Anniversary) 9:00 am — Christina Feil (4th Anniversary) 10:30 am — Adolph & Bruce Bernhauser 12:00 pm — Ralph & Florence Pietro MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2014 6:30 am — Keenan & Gibbons Families 8:30 am — Mary Cobleigh TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2014 6:30 am — Memar & Shafieyan Families (Living) 8:30 am — Clancey Family WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2014 6:30 am — Kevin Rocks (2nd Anniversary) 8:30 am — Lucy Goodone THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2014 6:30 am — Memar & Shafieyan Families (Living) 8:30 am — Derek DelQuadro FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2014 6:30 am — Giacomo Pontarelli 8:30 am — Mary R. In a particular way we will pray for the members of our community who have died in the past year. Everyone is invited to participate in this Mass and to lift up in prayer their beloved family and friends called by God to share in eternal life. I’ve found that I have been most successful when I was in total control of what I ate. Institutional food wasn’t always the healthiest, but if you can cook your own food and be creative, then you can achieve your goals and learn how to cook. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30TH FROM 6:30—7:30 PM IN HOLY FAMILY HALL VOLUNTEERS SHOULD ARRIVE BY 5:30 PM Spaghetti squash is one of the foods I have grown to love. It has 42 calories per cup, compared to 221 for regular spaghetti. It gets its name from the long spaghetti style strands it makes when you scrape its flesh with a fork. Try it in place of spaghetti in your favorite sauces (gravies); just follow the recipe below then adapt it to your other recipes as you see fit. 1. Cut the spaghetti squash in half, scoop out the seeds, season with salt and pepper, place open side down on a pan and, bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees, until a knife easily cuts into the skin. 2. Once cool, scrape out your “spaghetti,’ separating the strands by repeatedly running a fork lengthwise down each half, until it is all removed. ST.
