TOLEDO - The Rockets will try to keep their
perfect record in Mid-American Conference play
intact when they travel to Kent State on Tuesday,
Nov. in a nationally televised contest (8:00 p.m./
ESPNU). Toledo (5-3, 4-0 MAC) is the only undefeated squad in MAC play, while Kent State (1-7,
0-4 MAC) is still looking for its first league triumph.
Toledo is coming off an exciting 42-35 comeback victory over UMass at the Glass Bowl last
week. Sophomore Kareem Hunt rushed for a career-high 198 yards as UT rallied from a 13-0 firsthalf deficit to defeat the Minutemen on HomeKareem Hunt sliced through UMass coming. Freshman Terry Swanson scored the
winning touchdown with 34 seconds left from 19
for 198 yards and one touchdown.
yards out. With the score tied, 35-35, and UT running the clock down for a game-winning field goal, UMass head coach Mark Whipple elected to let Swanson score. The Minutemen’s final drive ended when senior
Blake Frohnapfel’s pass was intercepted by freshman cornerback Trevon Mathis on
the UT 35-yard line with five seconds left.
Hunt, playing for the first time since the first half of the Ball State game on
Sept. 20, was dominant, falling just short of 200 yards on 26 carries. He had an
impressive 36-yard TD run in the third quarter that gave Toledo its first lead of
the game, 28-20. Swanson chipped in with 97 yards and two scores. Sophomore
quarterback Logan Woodside shook off a slow start to complete 20-of-34 passes
for 225 yards and three TDs.

AND THE NOMINEE IS...GREG MANCZ
If it’s an honor just to be nominated, then Greg Mancz is a very honorable man indeed.
Toledo’s senior center is a nominee or on the official watch list for five
awards this season. They are as follows:
• Rimington Trophy: Awarded to nation’s top center.
• Rotary Lombardi Award: Awarded
to nation’s top lineman or linebacker.
• All State AFCA Good Works Award:
Presented to the college football player
who exhibits the greatest level of community service.

• Campbell Trophy: Awarded to the
college football player who best combines academic success, football performance and exemplary community
leadership.
He returned to the huddle but then collapsed on the next play when his knee
gave way as he planted his right foot
to make a pass. Ely had knee surgery
on Sept. 19.
Sophomore Logan Woodside has
assumed the starting position, with
redshirt freshman Michael Julian backing him up.
Sophomore defensive tackle
Marquise Moore, senior cornerback
Cameron Cole and redshirt freshman
offensive lineman Nate Jeppesen are
also out for the season following injuries suffered in the Missouri game.
Senior cornerback Cheatham Norrils is also out for the season due to a
pre-season illness.

WHAT’S NEW?
Fans will notice some changes
to the Larimer Athletic Complex, the
building located adjacent to the north
end zone of the Glass Bowl.
Larimer, home of the Rockets’
football team as well as the Rocket
Academic Center, underwent a $5.5
million renovation in the off-season.
Inside, that meant a new academic
center, locker room, weight room, team
meeting rooms, etc.
On the outside, Larimer houses
a brand-new video board, four times
larger than the old board, as well as
a new sound system. The old board
moved to the sound end, making the
Glass Bowl the only campus stadium
in the MAC with two video boards.
Another change will occur right
before kickoff. The Rockets now enter
the field directly from the locker room,
as opposed to the gate near the visiting
locker room.
TOLEDO PICKED TO WIN MAC WEST

ROCKETS TOPS IN MAC IN ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATE (APR)
In the Academic Progress Rate
(APR) figures released by the NCAA in
May, Toledo posted an APR score of 974
which ranks No. 1 in the Mid-American
Conference. The APR figures were for
the four-year period from 2009-10 to
2012-13.
APR is a gauge of every team’s
academic performance at a given
point in time. Points are awarded
on a semester-by-semester basis for
eligibility, retention and graduation of
scholarship student-athletes. “1000” is
considered a perfect score. Sports that
fail to reach the “cut point” (930) can be
penalized with the loss of scholarships,

Game Winner: Bowling Green 11; Toledo 6; Central Michigan 2; Northern

Here’s what Rivals.com had to say
about Candle:
“Candle was a recruiting mercenary of
sorts in 2014. He landed 11 of Toledo’s
23 commitments this cycle. He was
responsible for the signings of a trio of
three-star prospects, including wide receiver Mykale Rogers, who most expect
to have a major impact as a Rocket.
Candle signed five recruits from Florida
and a handful of prospects that carried
offers from BCS-level programs.”
MAC ANNOUNCES BACKUP DEAL
WITH DETROIT BASED QUICK LANE
BOWL
The Mid-American Conference has
secured a six-year (2014-2019) backup
agreement with the newly formed
Quick Lane Bowl, owned and operated
by the Detroit Lions and Ford Field.
The inaugural Quick Lane Bowl
will be played on Sunday, Dec. 26 at
4:30 pm ET at Ford Field in Detroit in
a nationally televised bowl game on
ESPN. The game is slated to feature
one member from each primary bowl
partner--Big Ten Conference and the
Atlantic Coast Conference. Should either primary partner not fill their bowl
agreement with the Quick Lane Bowl,
the MAC will provide one bowl eligible
member, if available, to participate in
the bowl game.
This 2014 bowl season, the MAC
has secured five primary bowl partners:
GoDaddy Bowl (Mobile, AL); Famous
Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise, ID); Raycom
Media Camellia Bowl (Montgomery,
AL); Boca Raton Bowl (Boca Raton, FL)
and the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl (Nassau, Bahamas).
In addition to the primary bowl
partners, the MAC has now secured
its third backup agreement for the
2014 bowl season with the Quick Lane
Bowl. During the 2014 bowl season,
the MAC will have a backup with the
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (backup Navy); a backup
with ESPN owned and operated bowl
games (such as Gildan New Mexico
Bowl; Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl; or
Birmingham Bowl); and finally the
backup agreement with the Quick Lane
Bowl (Detroit, Mich.).

MAT T CAMP BELL
You would be hardpressed to find someone more
passionate about his work
than Matt Campbell.
Campbell, now entering
his third season as the head
football coach at the University of Toledo, describes himself
this way.
“Relentless,” said Campbell. “Going from good to
great requires relentlessness.
I want to be relentless in the
pursuit of greatness, and I
want my staff and players to
be the same way.”
Campbell’s pursuit of greatness has vaulted him up
the coaching ladder quickly. He was named Toledo head
coach on Dec. 12, 2011, becoming the youngest head
coach in the NCAA Division I FBS at the time by more than
three years. Today, at age 34, he is still the second-youngest head coach in the FBS. But age has no bearing on what
Campbell has accomplished thus far in his career, and it
certainly is not a factor on where he plans to lead the UT
program.
Just 16 days after taking over the helm in 2011, Campbell led his Rockets to a 42-41 victory over Air Force in the
Military Bowl. He followed that up with winning seasons
in 2012 and 2013, including a berth in the 2012 Famous
Idaho Potato Bowl.
These are just further chapters in his meteoric rise in
the coaching world that began just a little more than a decade ago. When the subject of the most successful young
coaches in the nation comes up, Campbell’s name is almost always included in the conversation.
Campbell’s passion for football was nurtured in the
heart of football country. He
was born Massillon, OH, a football hotbed famous for presenting every male baby with
a miniature football at the hospital nursery. His father, Rick,
was the football coach at Massillon Jackson High School, a
rival to Campbell’s own high
school, Massillon Perry. An
outstanding high school football player, Campbell chose to
play college football at Mount
Union, just a short drive from
his home.
Campbell thrived at Mount
Union under legendary coach Larry Kehres, twice earning first-team All-America and Ohio Athletic Conference
defensive lineman of the year honors. Better still, Campbell was a vital part of three consecutive NCAA Division III
national titles (2000, 2001, 2002). Campbell also excelled
in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-America
honors and graduating in 2002.
Campbell coached for two seasons at Bowling Green
as a graduate assistant before returning to alma mater. In
his two seasons leading the Mount Union offense, Campbell and the Purple Raiders went 29-1 and won two NCAA
Division III national titles.
Campbell returned to Bowling Green as an assistant
coach for two seasons before joining Tim Beckman’s staff
at Toledo in 2009. After three highly successful seasons as
the Rockets’ offensive coordinator, Campbell was tapped
to lead the Midnight Blue and Gold when Beckman accepted the head coaching position at Illinois at the end of
the 2011 regular season.
Campbell encourages his players to participate in community service in the off-season.
Campbell meets with the media following a practice at the
2012 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

game 1 - toledo 54, new hamp shire 20
Toledo, OH – Junior Phillip Ely made a successful debut as Toledo’s
new quarterback and sophomore Kareem Hunt rushed for 136 yards and
two touchdowns as the Rockets rallied to defeat a tough New Hampshire
squad, 54-20, in the season opener for both schools in the Glass Bowl.
After misconnecting on two of his first three passes on Toledo’s first
series, Ely took command of the game, finishing the contest with 24-of-34
completions for 337 yards and four touchdowns. He led Toledo to seven
consecutive touchdown drives from midway through the second quarter
until late in the game, turning a close game into a rout.
Hunt, who rushed for the sixth 100-yard game of his career, scored
on a two-yard TD run with 24 seconds left in the first half to give Toledo its
first lead of the game, 16-14. The Rockets had been trailing, 14-3, midway
through the second quarter before touchdowns by sophomore Corey
Jones and Hunt gave a boost Toledo going into the locker room.
Toledo’s defense was impressive, as well. The Rockets gave up a 35yard TD pass and one long drive in the first half, but otherwise kept New
Hampshire’s veteran offense under control.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 4 in the FCS, scored board first on a 35-yard
pass play from Donald Goldrich to R.J. Harris. Harris grabbed a pass near
the line of scrimmage, then used a block to bolt untouched into the end
zone. Toledo countered with an 11-play, 78-yard drive that culminated in
a 22-yard field goal by Jeremiah Detmer.
The teams exchanged punts before New Hampshire struck again,
this time on a 13-play, 87-yard drive that was aided by a pair of Rocket
penalties. Goldrich took it the final four yards to put the Wildcats up, 14-3.
Moments later, the Rockets cut the score to 14-10 on Ely’s first career
touchdown pass, a 64-yard bomb to Jones, which was also his first collegiate TD reception.
Ely began to come into his own on Toledo’s final drive of the half.
New Hampshire punter Brad Prasky pinned the Rockets in at their own
four-yard line with 2:16 to play. Ely proceeded to match the offense 96
yards in 10 plays and less than two minutes. He completed 5-of-5 passes
on the drive. The final two yards came from Hunt, who followed a blocker
into the end zone. The extra point attempt was fumbled, giving UT a 1614 edge to take into the locker room.
Toledo put the game away with three consecutive touchdowns.
Olack caught his second TD pass with 1:16 left in the third quarter. Sophomore Damion Jones-Moore followed that up with a seven-yard score
with 12:10 left in the game, putting Toledo up safely, 44-20. The score was
set up by a 42-yard run by Jones-Moore and a 32-yarder by Hunt. Freshman Terry Swanson hauled in a 40-yarder from Ely moments later to
make the score 51-20. Detmer finished off the scoring with a 27-yard field
goal, his 15th consecutive conversion going back to last year and his 38th
of his last 39 attempts.
ROCKET ROUNDUP: The Rockets’ 54 points marked the fifth time UT
scored at least 50 points under Matt Campbell. It also signified the second-most points by UT under Campbell, trailing its 55 points vs. Eastern
Michigan on Nov. 2, 2011...The Rockets scored on eight straight possessions (seven touchdowns, one field goal) between the second and fourth
quarters...Toledo finished with a commanding 674-375 edge in total offense. The Rockets tallied 360 yards passing and 314 yards rushing. UT
averaged a staggering 8.5 yards per play...UT was an efficient 9-of-13 on
third-down conversions. The Rockets converted 46 percent (76-of-167) on
third downs last fall... The Rockets were a perfect 7-of-7 in red-zone scoring chances. UT scored TDs on 75 percent (38-of-51) inside the 20-yard
line in 2013...UT did not allow a sack against New Hampshire. The Rockets
allowed only six sacks in 12 games last fall, the fewest in the country. Kareem Hunt’s game-high 136 yards were also topped the century mark for
the sixth time in his young UT career...Damion Jones-Moore carried the
ball seven times for a career-high 70 yards...Justin Olack caught a careerbest two TD receptions...Alex Zmolik caught a career-high four passes for
58 yards.

game 2 - Missour i 49 , toledo 24
Toledo, OH – Sophomore Kareem Hunt rushed for 148 yards and
three touchdowns but it wasn’t enough for Toledo to match No. 24 Missouri, as the Tigers defeated the Rockets 49-24 at the Glass Bowl.
To make matters worse for Toledo, junior quarterback Phillip Ely
went down with a knee injury in the third quarter. Ely finished 17-of-34 for
204 yards and one interception.
Missouri was led by sophomore quarterback Maty Mauk, who completed 21-of-32 passes for 325 yards and five scores to four different receivers.
The Tigers broke open a 7-7 game with three unanswered touchdowns in the first half, then scored on its first possession of the second
half to take a commanding 35-7 lead.
But the Rockets would not quit. Hunt scored his second TD of the
game from one yard out, set up by his own run of 45 yards on the previous
play. Junior Christian Dukes then picked off Mauk on third-and-long on
the Missouri 43-yard line. Four plays later, Hunt scored his third TD from
one yard out to cut the Tiger lead to 35-21.
But Missouri struck back quickly, with Mauk hitting Sasser on thirdand-seven for a 47-yard gain. Mauk went right back to Sasser for a 25-yard
score down the sideline to push Mizzou’s cushion back to three touchdowns.
The news got worse for Toledo on its next possession when Ely went
down with an apparent knee injury. Ely crumpled to the ground as he set
himself to make a pass. He was helped off the field and did not return to
the game.
The Tigers’ Jimmie Hunt caught his second TD pass of the game to
close out the scoring for Missouri with 7:35 left. Toledo’s final drive resulted in a 40-yard field goal by Detmer.
ROCKET ROUNDUP: The Rockets are now 7-15 all-time vs. Top 25 teams,
including 5-3 in the Glass Bowl...The attendance of 24,196 marked Toledo’s
best turnout since it had 28,115 against Bowling Green on Sept. 15, 2012...

quarter to snap a streak of 15 consecutive conversions, dating back to
last fall...Senior S Jordan Haden picked off his first pass of the season and

Cincinnati, OH – Toledo staged a furious second-half comeback that
erased much of a 34-point deficit but it wasn’t quite enough as the Rockets fell to Cincinnati, 58-34, at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati (1-0) scored touchdowns on its first six possessions, building leads of 34-0 and 41-7 in the first half. Toledo did not quit, though,
cutting the lead to 41-34 early in the fourth quarter. But the Bearcats put
the game away with a touchdown and a field goal midway through the
fourth quarter.
Both teams rolled up more than 500 yards of offense, with the Rockets totaling 563 yards and Cincinnati putting up 584.
The Rockets (1-2) were led by sophomore QB Logan Woodside, who
connected on 27-of-40 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Kareem Hunt paced the rushing attack with 101 yards, all in the
first half, while sophomore Corey Jones caught 11 passes for 93 yards and
one touchdown.
UC sophomore quarterback Gunner Kiel completed 25-of-37 passes
for 418 yards and six scores.
Cincinnati set the tone on the game’s first play, a 52-yard pass play
from Kiel to Mekale McKay. Two plays later, Kiel hit McKay for a 17-yard TD
along the left edge of the end zone.
Toledo’s first drive stalled at midfield, and Cincinnati responded with
an eight-play, 81-yard drive that was capped by a 22-yard TD pass from
Kiel to Max Morrison. UC extended the lead to 20-0 on an 80-yard drive,
then got the ball right back on the UT 14-yard line following a Toledo
fumble on the kickoff. Two plays later and four seconds into the second
quarter, Kiel found Chris Moore in the end zone to put UC up, 27-0. The
margin ballooned to 34-0 when Rod Moore capped a three-play drive
with a two-yard run.
Toledo cracked the scoreboard on its first possession of the second
quarter on a three-yard rush by Hunt. Hunt also had 19, 21 and 13 yards
on the nine-play, 85-yard drive. The Rockets made it 41-14 with 2:07 left in
the first half when Russell caught a short pass from Woodside and took it
38 yards to the house.
Toledo narrowed its deficit to as close as 41-34 early in the fourth
quarter but couldn’t come any closer.

game 4 - toledo 34, Ball State 23
Toledo, OH – In a contest delayed nearly three hours due to severe
weather, Toledo outlasted Ball State, 34-23, at the Glass Bowl. The delay
lasted 2:41, which meant the game did not finish until 12:42 the following morning. The victory marked the 500th win in school history for the
Rockets.
Sophomore Kareem Hunt rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown
on just 12 carries to pace a balanced Rocket offense that gained 318 of its
470 yards of total offense on the ground. Hunt left the game in the second
quarter with a foot injury following a 43-yard run and did not return. It was
Hunt’s fourth consecutive 100-yard outing in as many tries this season.
Sophomore quarterback Logan Woodside guided the Rockets by
connecting on 13-of-22 passes for 152 yards and one TD. Woodside also
ran for two scores. Sophomore Damion Jones-Moore added 62 rushing
yards and one score on 11 carries. Sophomore wide receiver Corey Jones
racked up 164 all-purpose yards, including 76 on kickoff returns and 66 on
punt returns.
Ball State (1-3, 0-1 MAC) was led by senior running back Jahwan Edwards, who rushed for 125 yards on 21 attempts.
Toledo (2-2, 1-0 MAC) scored quickly on its first possession, helped
by a 34-yard run by Hunt and a 35-yard pass play from Woodside to senior
wide receiver Justin Olack. Woodside took it in from three yards out. Jeremiah Detmer’s extra point attempt was wide right, giving Toledo a 6-0
lead.
The Rockets then stopped Ball State, and Corey Jones returned a
63-yard BSU punt 31 yards to the Toledo 40-yard line. Two plays later, the
game was suspended due to severe weather and did not resume for another 2:41.
Toledo did not miss a beat following the delay, as Woodside hit Olack
for a 31-yard strike to the BSU 27-yard line on the first play coming out of
the locker room. Five plays later, Woodside ran it in from eight yards out
for his second TD of the game.
After Ball State’s Scott Secor kicked a 49-yard field goal to cut the
margin to 13-3, UT answered with an eight-play drive capped by an impressive run by Hunt, who spun out of one tackle and broke another to
take it in from 13 yards, giving the Rockets a 20-3 margin at the end of the
first quarter.
Secor booted a pair of field goals to account for the scoring in the
second quarter. Toledo pushed the lead to 27-9 midway through the third
quarter when Woodside hit junior WR Alonzo Russell for a 26-yarder. The
drive was set up by Jones’ 35-yard punt return.
The Cardinals stayed in the contest with a touchdown on their next
possession to cut the lead to 27-16. Quarterback Ozzie Mann hit KeVonn
Mabon for a 43-yard score that kept BSU within striking distance. Toledo
came back with a 14-play, 72-yard drive that was capped by a seven-yard
TD run by Jones-Moore to give the Rockets a 34-16 margin with 10:19 left
in the contest.
ROCKET ROUNDUP: UT won its MAC opener for a seventh-straight year,
equaling its longest win streak to start league play since 1993-99...Toledo is now 12-3 at home under Head Coach Matt Campbell...Junior WR
Alonzo Russell was credited with a 26-yard TD catch in the third quarter
to give him 14 in his career, good for 10th place in school history. Russell

game 5 - toledo 42, Central Mic higan 28
Toledo, OH – Sophomore Logan Woodside threw for a career-high
339 yards and the Rocket defense contained Central Michigan’s ground attack as Toledo defeated the Chippewas, 42-28, at the Glass Bowl. The victory
put UT (3-2, 2-0 MAC) at the top of the MAC’s West Division. Central Michigan fell to 2-3, 0-1 in MAC play.
Playing without starting running back Kareem Hunt, the Toledo offense did not miss a beat, grinding out 543 yards of total offense. Woodside completed 23-of-34 passes and threw two touchdowns, both to junior
Alonzo Russell. Russell had seven catches for 120 yards, while sophomore

a fumble recovery and added a key on-side kick recovery in the second half.
UT dominated the first half, outgaining CMU 338-89 in total yards, but
four Rocket fumbles (one lost) helped keep the score close. The Rockets
opened the scoring on their initial drive with a 32-yard field goal from Jeremiah Detmer after a 15-play march stalled on the CMU 15-yard line. The
Chippewas answered with an eight-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a
three-yard corner fade pass from Rush to Jesse Kroll. Detmer’s second field,
a 22-yarder, cut the lead to 7-6.
Toledo regained the lead in the second quarter, thanks to a great catch
and run by Jones who took it 41 yards to the CMU 20-yard line. Four plays
later, Swanson took it in on third-and-goal from the three-yard line to make
13-7 with 4:50 left in the half.
Following a three-and-out by CMU, the Rockets drove down the field
once again. Russell took it the final six yards with 27 seconds left with a
splendid one-hand reception on a Woodside pass.
Central cut the lead to 20-14 on its first possession of the second half
behind a 10-play, 75-yard drive. Rush finished it off with a four-yard completion to Kroll, almost identical to their first-half hook-up.
Following a Toledo punt, senior safety Jordan Haden picked off Rush,
giving UT great field position on CMU’s 35-yard line. Woodside hit Russell in
the corner for a 12-yard TD to make it 27-14.
Toledo then pulled off a beautifully executed on-side kick, with Christian Dukes grabbing it on the fly at midfield. Five plays later Jones-Moore
made it 34-14 on a three-yard TD run.

game 6 - tol edo 20, W estern mic higan 19 (O T)
Kalamazoo, MI – In a game as wild as the stormy weather, the Toledo
Rockets (4-2, 3-0 MAC) defeated Western Michigan (2-3, 0-1 MAC), 20-19,
in overtime at Waldo Stadium.
Logan Woodside’s 22-yard pass on third down to Alonzo Russell
gave Toledo a 20-13 edge in overtime. Russell nearly went down as the
Broncos attempted to tackle him at about the 15-yard line, but regained
his footing and sprinted into the end zone.
WMU answered with a 20-yard TD pass from Zach Terrell to Darius
Phillips but Andrew Haldeman’s extra-point attempt hit the left upright
and bounced back onto the field, igniting a Rocket celebration.
Jeremiah Detmer sent the game into overtime with a 37-yard field
goal with no time left on the clock that tied the game at 13-13. WMU had
taken a 13-10 lead with just 1:11 to play when Haldeman nailed a 33-yard
field goal, putting the pressure on Toledo’s offense.
Woodside finished 13-of-27 for 210 yards. Terry Swanson had a
huge game, rushing for a season-high 172 yards and one score on 19 carries.
A driving rain throughout the game slowed down both offenses, but
it seemed to bother Toledo’s passing game the most. The Rockets gained
just 130 yards of total offense in the first half, including only 28 yards
through the air. Woodside connected on just 2-of-8 passes in the first 30
minutes, both to Swanson out of the backfield.
The two teams exchanged punts throughout a scoreless first quarter. Punter Nick Ellis pinned the Broncos on their own two-yard line at
the end of the quarter, but WMU drove the length of the field anyway,
finishing an 11-play drive with a two-yard scoring run by Jarvion Franklin
with 10:44 left in the second period.
Toledo’s best chance to score in the first half was thwarted when
Woodside was sacked on third-and-four on WMU’s 38-yard line late in the
first quarter. Another drive ended when Swanson’s 31-yard rush to the
WMU 48-yard line late in the second quarter was immediately followed
by a WMU interception on a pass intended for Justin Olack on the Bronco
24-yard line.
Toledo put its first points on the board on its first possession of
the second half on a 25-yard field goal by Detmer. A three-yard TD run
by Swanson on the drive was wiped out by a holding call. The Rockets
missed another chance to score on their second possession when the exchange between Greg Mancz and Woodside was fumbled on the WMU
two-yard line.
The Broncos took over on their own four-yard line following the UT
turnover and marched 76 yards downfield, setting up a 27-yard field goal
by Haldeman to make the score 10-3 with 1:12 left in the third quarter.
The Rockets tied it up at 10-10 with 13:47 left on a two-yard plunge
by Swanson following a seven-play, 65-yard drive.
ROCKET ROUNDUP: UT is 3-0 in the MAC for a fourth time in the last five
seasons...The Rockets are now 6-3 all-time in overtime contests...UT most
recently claimed a 45-44 double-overtime victory vs. Navy on Oct. 19,
2013... The victory was Toledo’s fifth straight against Western Michigan,
matching its longest unbeaten stretch since 2001-05...Jeremiah Detmer
booted two or more field goals for the fourth time this season...Terry

game 7 - iowa state 37, toledo 30
Ames, IA – Terry Swanson rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn’t enough as Toledo lost to Iowa State, 37-30, in nonconference action.
The Rockets scored a touchdown with 56 seconds left when Logan
Woodside completed a four-yard shovel pass to Marc Remy. That cut the
Iowa State lead to seven points and set up an on-side kick attempt by the
Rockets. Jeremiah Detmer pounded the ball right at ISU’s Luke Knott and
immediately tackled him. But Knott hung on to the ball and secured the
Cyclone victory.
Toledo’s late rally came after a pair of ISU fourth-quarter touchdowns
broke a 23-23 deadlock.
The game was closely fought throughout. ISU held a slight 454-425
edge in total yardage. Neither team had a turnover. Woodside was 7-of-15
in the first half but came on strong in the final 30 minutes, finishing 22-of36 for 189 yards.
The game began as a field-goal contest, with Toledo getting on the
board first with a 27-yard boot from Detmer on the Rockets’ first drive.
Iowa State’s Cole Netten countered with a pair of field goals from 32 and
36 yards to give the Cyclones a 6-3 first-quarter lead.
Toledo took a 10-6 lead midway through the second quarter on a
nifty 14-yard TD run by Swanson. Swanson’s run capped a 14-play, 75-yard
drive in which UT went 4-for-4 on third-down plays. The Rockets extended
the lead to 13-6 with 3:20 left in the half on a 29-yarder by Detmer. Netten
came right back with a 37-yarder with 13 seconds left to trim Toledo’s lead
to 13-9 at the half.
Iowa State regained the lead on its first possession of the second half.
Sam Richardson hit Tad Ecby down the sideline for a 23-yard score to put
the Cyclones up, 16-13. After Toledo went three-and-out, ISU came back
with another touchdown drive capped by a one-yard plunge by Martinez
Syria to make the score 23-13.
Toledo trimmed the lead back to three points, 23-20, on a one-yard
rush from Swanson with 4:01 left in the third quarter. After a stop by the
UT defense, the Rockets tied the game, 23-23, on a 41-yard Detmer field
goal early in the fourth quarter.
Iowa State answered one more time, driving 75 yards in 3:15 to go
up, 30-23, with 10:23 left. A pass interference call on third-and-nine kept
the drive going. Richardson finished off the drive with a five-yard TD pass
to E.J. Bibbs. Bibbs was held up at the five-yard line after the catch, but
broke free of a tackle and crossed the goal line.
Toledo was then forced to punt, giving the ball back to ISU with 7:55
to play. The Cyclones burned up 4:20 off the clock and scored on a 14-yard
pass from Sam Richardson to Allen Lazard. Toledo was able to cut the lead
to seven points but simply ran out of time.

game 8 - toledo 42, U Mass 35
TOLEDO, OH – Kareem Hunt rushed for a career-high 198 yards as
Toledo rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit to defeat UMass, 42-35, on
Homecoming at the Glass Bowl.
Terry Swanson scored the winning touchdown with 34 seconds left
from 19 yards out. With the score tied, 35-35, and UT running the clock down
for a game-winning field goal, UMass head coach Mark Whipple elected to
let Swanson score. The Minutemen’s final drive ended when Blake Frohnapfel’s pass was intercepted by Trevon Mathis on the UT 35-yard line with five
seconds left.
Hunt, playing for the first time since the first half of the Ball State game
on Sept. 20, was dominant, falling just short of 200 yards on 26 carries. He
had an impressive 36-yard TD run in the third quarter that gave Toledo its
first lead of the game, 28-20. Swanson chipped in with 97 yards and two
scores. Logan Woodside shook off a slow start to complete 20-of-34 passes
for 225 yards and a career-high tying three TDs.
UMass was led by Frohnapfel, who completed 28-of-55 passes for 438
yards and five touchdowns. But he was intercepted twice, the first one coming right before Hunt’s third-quarter TD.
UMass came out firing, scoring on its first two drives to go up, 13-0.
Frohnapfel found Jalen Williams on both scores, connecting with passes of
15 and 35 yards. The Minutemen missed the extra point on their first touchdown.
Toledo got on the board on a 14-yard touchdown run from Swanson
with 2:04 left in the first quarter. UMass then picked off Woodside on the first
play of the second quarter, giving the Minutemen great field position at the
UT 30-yard line. Five plays later, Frohnapfel threw for his third score of the
half, a 15-yarder to Shakur Nesmith, pushing the margin to 20-7.
Toledo countered with a 13-play, 94-yard drive that gobbled up 6:31 on
the clock. Woodside hit Michael Roberts, his first catch as a collegian, for a
14-yard strike in the end zone to cut the lead to 20-14.
The Rockets took their first lead of the game on their first possession of
the second half on a 42-yard pass from Woodside to Corey Jones. On fourthand-three, Jones caught the pass on the 35-yard line, then spun free of two
tacklers and bolted down the sidelines to give UT a 21-20 advantage.
The Rocket defense rose up again, setting up Toledo’s next score with
a midfield interception by Chaz Whittaker. Two plays later, Hunt broke two
tackles and dragged another tackler into the end zone on a 36-yard run to
make the score 28-20 with 4:46 left in the third quarter.
UMass tied the score at 28-28 on a 36-yard TD strike from Frohnapfel to
Tajae Sharpe with 11:57 left in the fourth quarter. Frohnapfel then hit Rodney Mills for the two-point conversion to knot the score.
Toledo regained the lead with a 12-play, 75-yard drive, capped by a sixyard TD catch by Dwight Macon to take a 35-28 lead. UMass wasted no time,
however, tying the score on a 76-yard catch and run by Jean Sifrin on its first
on the ensuing possession.

The
Glass Bowl
The Glass Bowl is truly one of America’s great college
football stadiums.
Originally built in 1937, the Glass Bowl was renovated in
1990. As a result of those changes, the Glass Bowl became
a graceful synthesis of modern technology and old-time
charm and craftsmanship.
More recent improvements to the Glass Bowl include the
addition of the installation of a new videoboard as part of
the Larimer Athletic Complex renovation in 2014.
The Glass Bowl features a three-level press tower that
houses 45 private suites, a 300-seat Stadium Club and the
Gerber Media Center. The Gerber Media Center can accommodate 80 media members. A television crew provides
closed-circuit coverage of every Rocket home game. A
five-camera production is fed to two video boards and to
more than 70 television monitors in the press tower.

Fetterman
Training Center
A new era for University of Toledo Athletics began
when the Fetterman Training Center officially opened
its doors on Feb. 6, 2010. The Fetterman Training Center
is a multi-purpose indoor facility that meets the practice and training needs for football and all 16 Rocket
varsity sports. It is also used by UT intramural and club
sports.
Construction of the facility took nine months. The
90,400 square-foot facility is actually two buildings
in one: a multi-purpose field house with a 100-yard
football field and a smaller building with a basketball
court and golf training facility that connects the indoor
facility to Savage Arena.
Special features for football include fixed goal posts,
a game scoreboard, and elevated viewing areas for filming. Other features include sprinting lanes, long jump
pit and sand training area for track; improvements to
the outdoor track, including permanent bleacher seating for 500 spectators and a press box.
