THE SECOND 5 TIPS FOR WINNING SCHOLARSHIPS 6. Don’t miss deadlines, and don’t submit an application after the deadline. If you have missed deadlines, revisit your plan and schedule. Use a checklist to improve your personal organization. 7. Always proofread your scholarship application and essay. Check for grammar and spelling. Send your application, unless online, via certified mail, return receipt or with delivery confirmation. 8. If you have difficulty writing essays, record yourself as you answer the application questions out loud and transcribe the recording. Then write an outline afterward to organize your thoughts. 9. Personalize your essay and be passionate. It is easier to do if you write about something of interest to you. Make your application stand out from the crowd. Talk about your impact on other people. Give examples and be specific. Reminder: Last date to withdraw from a class is Monday November 17th. If you have stopped going to class, make sure you fill out a Withdrawal form, have it signed by your instructor or a counselor and bring it to the Registrar’s office by 4:30 pm on Monday November 17th. If you do not submit a withdrawal form, you may receive a grade of “F” for that class. Reminder: The deadline to apply for January Graduation is Friday, November 21st. In order to apply to graduate, you need to meet with your advisor and have them complete and sign a curriculum sheet and complete a Graduation Application available online at http://www.nwcc.edu/pdfs/graduation_application.pdf and bring both of those to the Registrar’s Office in Green Woods Hall Room 215. Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive, controlling behavior that can include physical abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, sexual abuse or financial abuse. It is a pervasive, life-threatening crime that affects thousands of individuals in Connecticut regardless of age, gender, economic status, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or education. Victims are left feeling scared, confused, dependent and insecure about their ability to survive on their own, financially or otherwise. The children of an abused parent must contend with these same fears and realities. CT Domestic Violence Laws Connecticut has many laws that are intended to help keep victims of domestic violence safe and hold offenders accountable for their actions. These laws, referred to as domestic violence or family violence laws, apply to victims regardless of their age, gender, economic status, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, education, or immigration status.
