industrial design
“it all depends on being loose about how we look at things, and not to get lost with how they are in themselves”
inspired by C. G. Jung, by life and by design.

01 about
amadeus schneider
amadeus schneider was born 1990 in
geneva, switzerland, where he grew up with
four languages and two nationalities within an
international environment. these conditions
might have influenced him to become a
person with multiple interests and a broad
intuitive knowledge about culture and people.
after finishing high school and acquiring strong
interest in many areas such as science, social
science, psychology and art, he decided to
move to zürich to start his bachelor studies at
the institute industrial design at FHNW/HGK
university – having the intention of bundling
all his areas of interest into design with the
aim to work according to a global spirit and a
modern sense for community.
having started his studies 2013, he began to
find his strong points in more technical
approaches and with working with digital
tools. he embraces the challenge of honing his
skills in analog methods and believes that the
combination of both is the way of the future.
one of his strongest points might be his ability
to quickly grasp issues and being empathic
towards the opposing party. by directly
approaching the issue through several
perspectives he is often able to give coherent
advice or constructive input bringing the topic
further towards a solution.

02 schoolbag kompass
kompass
schoolbag project 2014
this project was realized during the second
semester of the bachelor studies in
cooperation with the swiss company
SIMPLEX AG. the task was to develop a new
and innovative concept for schoolbags suited
for young children.
team
giulia ravasio ([email protected])
amadeus schneider
concept
kompass is a modular concept for a
schoolbag/sportsbag combination where
removable straps can be attached either
to the schoolbag or to the sportsbag. folding
techniques inspired by origami were used to
design the bag and they also define most of
the product’s shape. the materials used
consisted mostly of reused old sailing fabric
which had waterproof and tear resistant
properties.
aims
this project challenged us to make a textile
product while fullfilling the requests of an
established company.

amadeus schneider
concept
The table is held together through a single
steel wire stabilization system which runs
through the steel-tube legs. The steel wire
can be tightened to fasten the table in place.
the idea was to make a table that was easy to
assemble for the consumer and likewise easy
to dismantle for transportation or storage.
aims
the aim of this project is to make practical,
long lasting and easy to make furniture and to
satisfy the aesthetical and functional desires of
the customer.
the main motivation is to gain practical
experience through real projects.

04 go game
go game
board game project 2013
within the design classes in the first
semester of bachelor studies the task was
given to make an object/product using deep
drawing/thermoforming methods to shape
thermoplastic sheets.
concept
the concept was to make a board game for
the existing game named go. all the
components of the board can be stored
within the game platform itself. the platform
can then be put in a fitting container and then
covered with a felt cover.
the game includes two containers for the
game pieces, the game-board, a container for
the game-board and a felt cover to protect
the playing surface when not used.
aims
the aim of that project was to gain experience
with different kinds of tools for cutting and
milling solid materials and to learn how to
deep draw/thermoform plastic sheets.

05 iguaçu shower
iguaçu
shower project 2013/2014
to make a concept of a shower was the very
first project of the bachelor studies at the
FHNW/HGK university. The main focus was
put on user’s ability to regulate water
temperature and pressure, as well as
practicality for storing soap and other objects
used in a shower.
concept
iguaçu shower is aesthetically inspired by
waterfalls. the combination of steel and
granite are thought to create the strong and
massive atmosphere of flowing water in
nature. a plug-and-play showerhead makes
height regulation easy and there is no need
for a shower hose. the big granite flagstones
which are the docking stations for the
showerhead also serve as storing space for
showering items.
aims
the focus was on gaining first experiences in
the design process from the first briefing to
the concept presentation as well as trying out
different analog and digital tools for conceiving
objects. the project was a introduction into
the world of industrial design.

06 hammock stool
hammock stool
chair project 2014
within design classes in the second semester
of the bachelor studies the task was given to
make an 1:6 scale model of an existing chair
or of a new furniture design. the focus was
on using tools to process metals.
concept
a stool is furniture made for practical
purposes like working. a hammock on the
other side is furniture thought for relaxation.
both objects are easy to carry around.
with the thought that somebody who works
hard has to relax sometimes the idea of a
hammock-stool fusion emerged. the seat of
the stool is also the container for a hammock
and the legs can be slid through the seat so
they can be used as legs or as suspensions.
aims
the aim of this project was to learn about
different metals, to work with aluminum and
to gain experience in making downscaled
models of products.
