Page 3 AMKsian Herald Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) – Education and Career Guidance, Use of ecareers.sg Portal ecareers.sg is a web-based portal designed to facilitate education and career development among students in Singapore. It is premised on the ECG Developmental Model and contains features that facilitate identity development while bringing students through the processes of career awareness, exploration and planning. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to navigate the portal together with your child. This experience will provide a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of your child’s interests, abilities and future aspirations. Key Portal Features for Secondary Site 1 (1) Online Assessment Tools – enable self-assessment on interests, skills, values that generate career profiles for students. This report card reflects your child’s performance in the AMAs that he/she has completed in the course of the year. For each level, we will be reporting the AMA results of only three subjects. The purpose of issuing the AMA Report Card is to keep parents informed of the AMAs that your child has completed for the year and the competencies acquired by your child while completing the AMAs. How Should Parents Respond to the Results Reflected in The AMA Report Card? As a parent, your response when you see the AMA results in the AMA Report Card is to affirm your child on the strengths that he/she has demonstrated in the respective AMA and encourage him/her to build on these strengths. In the competencies that he /she is not so strong in, your response would be to try to create opportunities for your child to strengthen them so that he/she too could bloom in these areas. If your child demonstrates strength in a competency, say oral presentation, in one subject but not so in another subject, it does not mean that the assessment is not accurate. It just means that your child is more proficient in that subject and thus is able to articulate the content mastered for that subject better. We encourage all parents to use the feedback from the AMA Report Card as a tool to guide, develop and strengthen the various competencies in their child so as to stretch his/ her potential in the area of talent, rather than reprimand him/ her for not performing well in a particular competency. The “Conquer O” Programme for Sec 3 Express and Sec 4NATT (Sec 4A1 & Sec 4A2) To prepare our Sec 3 Express & Sec 4NA Through-Train classes for their ‘O’ Level Examinations in 2015, the school has set aside about 2 weeks (from 27 Oct to 7 Nov 2014) after the school closes on 24 October 2014 to conduct the “Conquer O” Programme for these classes. All Sec 3 Express and Sec 4NA Through Train students are expected to report to school at 7.30am at the parade square for morning assembly during the period of the Conquer O Programme. Teachers will be teaching some of the topics to be covered in the ‘O’ Level syllabi during this period. Practice papers for the ‘O’ Level examinations will also be issued for students to complete and the teachers will be going through error analysis of the students’ answers. The school has designated 4 Nov 2014 as the e-learning day for this Conquer O Programme. All Sec 3 Express and Sec 4NA Through Train students will not need to report to school on that day. Instead they will conduct their e-learning from home. Assignments will be posted on the school’s e-learning portal “AsknLearn” by their teachers for the students to complete and submit online. The timetable for “Conquer O” Programme in Oct-Nov 2014 will be posted on our school website (http://www.angmokiosec.moe.edu.sg/main/2014/2014_Sec%203E4TT_Conquer%20O_Class_Final.pdf) before 23 Oct 2014. All Sec 3E and Sec 4NATT students will be issued a copy of this timetable and they have also been informed that this timetable is accessible from the school website. Please ensure that your child attends all the “Conquer O” lessons. Thus we advise all parents to plan family holidays only after 8 Nov 2014 so that your child will be able to benefit from this programme. Extra Lessons for Selected Sec 3NA students Some teachers will also be organizing extra lessons after the school closes in October 2014 for selected Sec 3NA students. These additional lessons conducted by the teachers will help your child to catch up on his/her academic studies so that he/ she would be better prepared for his/her GCE ‘N’ level Examinations in 2014. We are unable to schedule lessons for all the subjects offered to Sec 3NA due to staff deployment constraints. We seek your support in ensuring that your child attends the lessons as informed by their subject teachers. Annex A shows the schedule for extra lessons planned for the Sec 3NA classes. A copy of this schedule will be posted on the school website by 23 Oct 2014 as well. Thus we advise all parents to make your holiday plans only after 4 Nov 2014 so that your child will be able to benefit from this programme.
