Theme: #getMAINEhealthy
The Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance invites you
to attend the 69th Annual MAHPERD Conference held at the Samoset Resort on
November 2, 3 & 4. Come and enjoy the wide array of sessions and exhibits. As you
attend the sessions, we hope you will be inspired to take away something to share with
your students, colleagues, parents and friends. Enjoy the time to network with other
professionals, visit with the exhibitors and attend the awards banquet. Don’t forget to
attend the opening general session and business meeting and be inspired by our
n a t i o n a l keynote speakers.
Contact hours will be available for all conference participants as well as 1 CEU from the
University of Maine for those attending the entire MAHPERD Conference!
Registration for the 2014 conference will open September 9. Cash, checks or credit cards
will be accepted; purchase orders will not be accepted. Register before October 25th to
receive the reduced early conference registration fee.
New This Year: Pre-conference Session: Jump Rope for Hearts/Hoops for Heart
Workshop: Conducting an Effective and Fun Event. This session will be tailored to new
event coordinators and event coordinators who haven’t participated in these important and
worthwhile events in the past 2-3 years. The workshop will highlight all the new awards
and strategies for conducting fun and successful events. What a great opportunity to
provide physical activity for students while raising funds for a great cause. Events can be
applied as a service learning experience. Come hear from successful event coordinators
and American Heart Association professionals. Lunch will be provided. Two additional
contact hours will be given.

Lynn Jennings
11:00 to 12:30 pm
One of the most accomplished women's long distance runners
in U.S. history, Jennings was a dominant force in cross
country, both in the U.S. and internationally. Jennings has
won more U.S. women's cross-country titles than anyone in
history with nine crowns over a 12-year span from 1985 to
1996. Lynn Jennings started running in the 9th grade in
Harvard, MA by joining the boy’s cross-country team. Her
running career took her all over the world until she retired
when she was 40. Lynn will share what it was like being a
world-class runner and how she handled the ups and downs of
being a professional athlete. Lynn will also talk about how
her coaches guided and directed her during the course of her
career. Her story is sure to inspire everyone.
