New This Year: Pre-conference Session: Jump Rope for Hearts/Hoops for Heart Workshop: Conducting an Effective and Fun Event. This session will be tailored to new event coordinators and event coordinators who haven’t participated in these important and worthwhile events in the past 2-3 years. The workshop will highlight all the new awards and strategies for conducting fun and successful events. What a great opportunity to provide physical activity for students while raising funds for a great cause. Events can be applied as a service learning experience. Come hear from successful event coordinators and American Heart Association professionals. Lunch will be provided. Two additional contact hours will be given. Jennings has won more U.S. women's cross-country titles than anyone in history with nine crowns over a 12-year span from 1985 to 1996. Lynn Jennings started running in the 9th grade in Harvard, MA by joining the boy’s cross-country team. Her running career took her all over the world until she retired when she was 40. Lynn will share what it was like being a world-class runner and how she handled the ups and downs of being a professional athlete. Lynn will also talk about how her coaches guided and directed her during the course of her career. Her story is sure to inspire everyone. Any person who has participated in the Gatekeeper Training and would like to provide a Suicide Prevention Awareness session in his or her community, school or workplace.
