Phone____________________________________ PARISH NURSING MINISTRY NEWS October 2014 The website www.healthinaging.org provides winter safety tips for older adults. The organization suggests the following tips for older adults during the winter months: Know the Warning Signs of hypothermia: lots of shivering; cold skin that is pale or ashy; feeling very tired, confused and sleepy; feeling weak; problems walking; slowed breathing or heart rate. Call 911 if you think you or someone else has hypothermia. Note: Do not rely on shivering alone as a warning sign, since older people tend to shiver less or not at all as their body temperature drops. STEWARDSHIP Stewards of God’s Gifts “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” Matthew 22:21B Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything; we are merely “Stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes second. Stay Indoors: when it’s very cold outside, especially if it’s also very windy. Keep indoor temperatures at about 65 degrees. If you have to go outside, don’t stay out for very long, and go indoors if you start shivering. Stay Dry: Wet clothing chills your body quickly Wear Layers: Wearing two or three thinner layers of loose-fitting clothing is warmer than a single layer of thick clothing. Always wear layers, as well as: a hat gloves or mittens (mittens are warmer) a coat and boots a scarf to cover your mouth and nose and protect your lungs from cold air There is also a pamphlet distributed by the Diocese of Camden Division of Health Services explaining winter safety for seniors that can be found on the window sills on the side entrances of the church the weekend of October 25 and 26, 2014. For more information about this topic FAMILY CORNER Twenty Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time Is 45:1.4-6; 1 Thes 1:1-5; Mt 22:15-21 The life of a Christian/Christian family is rooted in faith, hope and love. God initiates and invites. We are free to respond. Our response is to be shaped according to His will, discerned within the community we call Church and lived most profoundly in the family. How does your family respond in faith, hope and love? Adults: Is there a financial issue that worries me and detracts from my work or life with my family? Children: Do I realize that everything important in my life comes from God? TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, OCTOBER 19, 2014 FOOD PANTRY Our Food Pantry is in need of Canned Fruit, Corn, Carrots, Mixed Vegetables, Tuna, Jell-O. You may also give a cash donation. Yes_____ No______ Our Lady of Peace Parish First Annual Visitation Day Saturday, November 8, 2014 This is a parish visitation outreach to selected neighborhoods and the plan is to cover the entire parish over the course of several years. The purpose of the visit is to hear how the parish can better serve its members, and listen to ideas on ways to make our parish even more vibrant. A team of two may be visiting your home on November 8th and will be wearing ID badges, so you know they are from the parish. When they come to your door, please welcome them, as this is not an easy task and your kindness can brighten their day. They go out in the name of Christ and Our Lady of Peace Parish.
