largest lake in Southwest Finland and very
known of its rich catch of fish and crayfish as
well as of its big perches and pikes. Lake Koskeljärvi in Eura is a mecca for bird watchers,
offering the peace and quiet of nature. The
area of Säkylä ridges can be reached walking, skiing or canoeing. River Eurajoki which
hardly ever freezes provides ideal kayaking
opportunities throughout the year. Don’t

area is dynamic. Art galleries, houses

many restaurants. Or enjoy coffee with a local speciality, “munkki”, at Pori brigade, one
of the garrisons of Finland, based in Säkylä.

The Lake Pyhäjärvi area is a treasure of prehistoric times. Iron and Bronze Age finds in
Eura are beyond compare.
Köyliö is well-known for its national landscape, and the written history of the whole
of Finland begins in Köyliö. In 1156 peasant
Lalli killed Bishop Henry on the ice of Lake
Köyliönjärvi. The island of Bishop St. Henry,
Kirkkokari, is the only Roman Catholic pilgrimage site in the Nordic countries. In the
old ironworks area, Kauttua Ruukinpuisto,
you will have access to many buildings designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto.
