MVC Offensive Player of the Week
Tuesday, October 28
Elliot Collier, Fr., F, Loyola
Collier capped off a furious comeback for Loyola on Tuesday night when he scored
with only 15 seconds remaining in regulation to seal a 3-2 win over UIC at Loyola
Soccer Park. After Jacob Thoreson knotted the game up at 2-2 with just over a
minute remaining, Collier corralled a bouncing ball 25 yards out away from goal
with time ticking away. The freshman out of Hamilton, New Zealand ripped his shot
into the lower corner at the far post to put an exclamation point the comeback with
the first game-winner of his young career. Collier also notched a team-high three shots in the Ramblers’
1-1 draw in double-overtime with Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.

MVC Defensive Player of the Week
Addison Watson, So., GK, Missouri State
In his first year on the field, Addison Watson is having quite the season for the
Bears. Watson recorded his seventh shutout of the season on Saturday in the MVC
win over Bradley, tying him for sixth on the all-time Missouri State single-season
list. In Saturday’s game, Watson tied his career-high with four saves on the night, a
mark he set in his opening conference game at Central Arkansas in September. As
of Monday morning, Watson has moved into the top-10 nationally in goals against
average at 0.565. He is the top MVC goalkeeper and the second highest DI sophomore in that category,
and has yet to allow a conference goal in his career.
Other Notable Performances: Landon Souder (UE).

MVC MEN’S SOCCER WEEKLY RELEASE NO. 9
OCTOBER 27, 2014
NOTEWORTHY
In addition to the league’s player and newcomer of the week selections, several conference players had notable performances, and
they include:
Mark Anthony Gonzalez (UE) - Gonzalez guides UE to their
first win at Drake since 2001 with a goal in the Aces 4-1 victory on
Saturday night. After a 1-1 opening half, Gonzalez started a stretch of
three unanswered goals for UE with his score in the 50th minute. He took
a shot from the top of the 18 yard box and placed it in the left corner
of the net for the 2-1 advantage. The game winner was his fifth goal
of the season, piloting Evansville to their third straight conference win.
James Thomas (MSU) - Thomas scored the lone goal on Sat-
urday night in the MVC matchup with Bradley. Just after halftime, with
Missouri State attacking, Thomas positioned himself in the box as a
shot was fired towards the Bradley goalkeeper. After the initial save
was made and the ball popped loose into the air, Thomas promptly
one-touched the ball into the back of the net using his head. Thomas’
51st minute winner was his first conference goal of his career and
second overall goal on the year. The goal also gave Thomas six points
on the year, a new career best.
Landon Souder (UE) - Souder starred as both a central midfielder
and center back for the Aces in their 4-1 win at Drake on Saturday. It
was the first UE win at Drake since 2001 and also helped Evansville
secure their third straight conference win.

BRADLEY (6-9, 1-4 MVC)
CENTRAL ARKANSAS (2-11-1, 0-4-1 MVC)
Streaks Snapped
All About the D
With Saturday’s draw against Loyola, the Bears
snapped a pair of losing streaks. Central Arkansas
had lost ten matches in a row this season, and had
dropped four MVC matches in a row.
During Bradley’s 1-4 start to the season, the Braves allowed 16 goals, including 15 tallies in the first four games.
In the last 10 games, however, Bradley is 5-5 and has allowed just 10 goals while posting three shutouts. Bradley
enters Tuesday’s game with a 0.96 goals against average
in its last 10 games.
Good Little Helper
Going Extra Time
Now 15 games into the season, five of Bradley’s games have been decided in overtime this year. All five of those games have ended with a
result, two wins and three losses. In fact, each of Bradley’s last eight
overtime games (5-3-0) have ended with a winner since a 1-1 draw at
Central Arkansas Oct. 12, 2013. Bradley has played 27 consecutive
games (15-11-0) without finishing in a tie, the longest streak of games
with a winner by the Braves since the program-best 38-game (25-13-0)
stretch of games without a tie from Sept. 20, 1998-Sept. 15, 2000.
90 Minutes of Non-Con Defense
Since a 5-2 loss Sept. 12 at San Diego, Bradley has tightened up its
defense in its last six non-conference games. Starting with the Sept. 14
game at Cal State Northridge, Bradley has allowed only four goals to its
last six non-conference opponents, including just two in regulation time.
The Braves, who are 4-2-0 in their last six non-conference games, owns
a 0.62 goals against average in their last six non-conference games.

LOYOLA (5-4-5, 1-1-2 MVC)
Comeback Kings
Loyola opened the week with a heart-stopping 3-2 win
over city-rival UIC on Tuesday. Brian Bement, the Ramblers’ leading goal scorer from 2013, notched his first
goal of the season to put Loyola on the board in the second half. Jacob Thoreson added his first tally of the season with only 64 seconds remaining to level the game
at 2-2 before Elliot Collier recorded his first game-winner with only 15
seconds remaining to put Loyola ahead for good.
Peoria Bound
By virtue of its 1-1 draw with Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon,
Loyola clinched a spot in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in
November. The Ramblers have an excellent opportunity to improve upon
their seeding within the six-team field with conference games against
Evansville and SIUE still on the schedule.
Taming the Cats
The Ramblers wrap up non-conference play on Wednesday evening by
hosting the Northwestern Wildcats. Loyola hasn’t recorded a victory over
its neighbor to the north since a 2-1 triumph during the 1999 season.
