Dear Saint Mary Magdalen Families,
I’d like to start by thanking everyone for a tremendously successful 2014 Jog-a-Thon.
From our parent organizers to parent volunteers during the day to students and teachers
going full speed on the field, this was another memorable day. It is always a special moment to see the entire school community come together and achieve something great. On
behalf of our current and future students, thank you for all your hard work, energy, and
dedication!
This upcoming Friday, we will host another wonderful St. Mary Magdalen tradition in our
Annual Halloween Parade. The students received a list of guidelines in the family envelopes
last week for their costumes, which they may wear to school in the morning. The parade
will start at 10:15am and will work its way through the school, down to the field, and past
the parish offices. Afterwards, students will enjoy lunch from Somis Market as well as a
treat, games, and crafts from their room parents. We will have a 12:10pm dismissal on
Friday and if students are planning on attending the Extended Day Program, they should
bring a change of clothes so they can switch out of their costumes for the afternoon.
Finally, in your family envelopes this week, you will see an invitation to our Veteran’s Day
Ceremony on Monday, November 10th at 8:00am. We will take some time that morning to
honor all our parents and community members who have served or are currently serving
our country as members of the Armed Forces. If you, a relative, or friend has served our
nation, please join us that morning for a special ceremony and brief reception.
Have a wonderful week and a great start to the month of November!

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES
FAITH CORNER
During the month of October, we celebrate in a special way the Rosary. The Rosary, a
prayer Pope John Paul II called a “prayer for peace and family,” is essentially a reflection on
the divine life of Jesus and combines vocal prayer and quiet reflection.
This week, we will focus on the Sorrowful and Joyful Mysteries. The Sorrowful Mysteries,
usually prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays, remember the tremendous love that Jesus has for
each of us when he suffered and died for us. The five sorrowful mysteries are:
1. The Agony in the Garden
November 4th— PTO Meeting
November 7th—Father Daughter
Dinner Dance
November 10th—Veteran’s Day
Celebration
November 11th—Veteran’s Day NO
SCHOOL
2. The Scourging at the Pillar
3. The Crowing with Thorns
4. The Carrying of the Cross
5. The Crucifixion
The Joyful Mysteries, usually prayed on Mondays and Saturdays, celebrate the joyful events
of Jesus childhood. The five Joyful Mysteries are:
1. The Annunciation
2. The Visitation
3. The Birth of Jesus
4. The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple
5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple
Please join us this Wednesday, October 29 at 1:20pm in the Chapel for a school-wide Rosary
service. We will pray parts of each mystery as we remember the life of Jesus through prayer
and song. As we close this month of the Rosary, let us not forget the wonderful prayer we
have in both times of celebration as well as times of sorrow.
