owned a salon in Baytown but moved it to
Houston several years ago. Many of his loyal

The pampering begins in the calming
and tranquil shampoo room. Music helps
relaxation begin and soft lights play in the
background. Lean back and relax as your hair
is washed and conditioned. Warm towels are
placed on your face and head as you receive
a soft hand massage. Feel rejuvenated as your
stress is washed away.
“The towel therapy is something that brings
back such happy memories. It is the same
feeling I got as a child when my mom would
warm my clothes in the dryer before school,”
Skoog reminisced.
There are four licensed stylists that will
tailor your experience to your unique needs
with Aveda products and several luxury
treatments. The stylists are constantly
attending training to keep up on current trends.
To add to the experience Green Apple
Salon also has a complete color bar. Color
treatments are 96% naturally derived and
essentially damage free. “They are organic, it
is like giving back to nature.”
The newest addition is a full retail area of
Aveda products. This allows the Green Apple
Salon to cater to everyone’s needs.
They also have a makeup station set up as
your last stop. If your makeup gets smudged
during your visit, they will fix it for you before
you head out the door. Their goal is to make
you feel and look beautiful.
The salon is located at 650 W. Texas Avenue
in Baytown and is open Tuesday through
Saturday. The partners love the downtown
location.
“There is a new swing downtown. No
traffic and plenty of parking. It is what is
current, what is now,” Skoog said.

Little Hands
Daycare & Learning Center
Little Hands Daycare and Learning Center was started on November 0f 2009. At that
time our founder and former director Susana
Leija who worked for ten years as a substitute teacher for the Goose Creek School District saw the need of having a place where
children could come in and by using appropriate learning techniques as well innovation and technology; children could become
more prepared and have an easier transition
from a daycare center or home-care environment to a full school day schedule as well
knowledge of a common day to day school
routine.
Since September of 2012 we have been
part of the PRE-K READINESS pilot program sponsored by United Way. This program is managed by Collaborative for Children and has provided advisory assistance,
training and consulting in the overseeing
and outcome on the addition and implementation of age appropriate curriculum.
We are located at short distance from
three elementary schools (Ashbel Smith,
Carver, and Lamar) and within walking
distance from Lee College. Little Hands
Learning Center building is divided into five
classrooms, a full kitchen/cafeteria and a
backyard fenced for the safety and accommodation for your children.
In order to be able to prepare and guide
children to a healthy learning experience we
provide them with homemade meals (breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner), a clean and
properly organize classroom environment,
and certified and proper train lead teachers.
We are divided into four programs: Players (ranging age 18 months up to three years
olds); Learners (three and four years old)
Pre Pre K class; Achievers (Pre-K class);
Scholars (After school program).
We also provide transportation to and
from Learning center as well as home, Zumba classes, and local field trips. NCI and
LEE WAY programs are welcome

The Martinez family unwraps the 25th car
donated by Bates.
“It’s not what you say, it’s what you do”,
said Lee Bates, “and we will always do you
right. My family has been in Baytown for
75 years. We’ve been in the Collision Repair
business for 25. I started fixing cars at home
when I was still a teenager. The first car I
fixed was for myself. Soon after that I fixed
one for my new wife, Leila. Then Leila and I
decided we should rent a building and fix cars
full time. We both grew up here in Baytown
and had a lot of neighbors and friends that
sometimes needed Collision Repair. So we
borrowed money, rented a building, and started out - no money, no employees, and almost
no equipment. But we had a lot of youthful
enthusiasm and we had a dream - we wanted
to build the best Collision Repair business
ever! Leila and I became totally immersed in
it. We worked morning, noon, and night. We
put everything back into the business.”
“Then a funny thing happened”, said Bates,
“Success: employees, equipment, technology - it all came together”. Bates Collision
Centers has grown from that one-man operation into two locations with nearly 50 employees. Lee and Leila have won just about
every industry award out there and have become somewhat famous for giving back to
the community, Perhaps their most notable
program is the “Christmas Car” which they
present to a needy family each year. Each of
our locations now present a car. “We have
now given a total of 26 cars””, said Leila. “It
can change a life. It has changed our lives.
Seeing the joy on the faces of the receiving family, especially the children - when
they find the car is chock full of beautifully
wrapped presents - is priceless!”
“Our dream is well underway now”, said
Lee, “25 years have passed, but we’re still
working morning, noon, and night building
the best Collision Repair business ever... and
fixing cars for our family and friends.”
