Leaf-A-Legacy
Our Leaf-A-Legacy program is a way
for you to support flower, shrub and tree
planting efforts in the New Haven area
parks and have a living monument for a
loved one for decades to come.
• $250 will provide a family with a tree
planted in a local park. A padded keepsake portfolio listing the GPS coordinates
will also be provided to the donor as a permanent record of the memorial.
• $750 donation will provide a memorial
bench with a plaque to be placed in a
local park.
If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to have a tree planted or
a memorial bench placed in a local park
to honor a loved one, please contact the
Office at (260)749-2212. We will be glad
to answer any questions you may have
about this opportunity.
We will also gladly accept a donation in
any amount to be used toward anything
of the donor’s choosing. We greatly appreciate the support of the community
in helping to improve and maintain local
parks.
Volunteer New Haven!
The New Haven Parks
& Recreation Department is always looking for individuals and
groups who are interested in becoming
involved in the community. Volunteer opportunities exist year round and change from
season to season. If you are looking for an
opportunity to share your time and talents
with your community, this may be what you
are looking for! We can work with groups or
individuals and match your talents and time
available with services and projects that
need completed or maintained. If you are
interested in learning more, contact Jessica
Jones at the Park Office at 260-749-2212 for
an application and a brochure of opportunities and rewards. Thank you to IAB Financial
for sponsoring this program.
Fall & Winter Program Guide 2014/2015
General
Information
Inclement Weather Policy
It is the goal of New Haven Parks and
Recreation to remain open and hold
classes as scheduled. However, weather
conditions may dictate otherwise. The
following inclement weather policies address these less than ideal weather conditions.
• If East Allen County School district announces a one or two hour delay or closing - all DROP-IN New Haven Parks and
Recreation Programs are cancelled.
• If East Allen County School district announces a one or two hour delay - all
New Haven Parks and Recreation regularly scheduled day programs will also
operate on a one or two hour delay.
• If East Allen County School district announces a school closing - all regularly
scheduled New Haven Parks and Recreation programs PRIOR to 3:00pm are
cancelled.
• If East Allen County School district announces a school closing or delay, all
evening (AFTER 3:00pm) classes will run
AS SCHEDULED unless you are notified
otherwise.
• If East Allen County School district announces a weather related early dismissal - all afternoon and evening New
Haven Parks and Recreation Programs,
including those held at EACS facilities,
are cancelled.
• If East Allen County School district announces a school closing - all New Haven Parks and Recreation Programs held
at EACS school facilities are cancelled.
• If the Mayor of New Haven declares a
travel advisory at the “Warning” level, all
Park and Recreation facilities and offices
will be closed and programs will be cancelled.
Some considerations:
• The New Haven Parks and Recreation
instructors have the authority to cancel
or reschedule classes due to inclement
weather at their discretion but must first
notify parks and recreation staff, check
building availability, schedule a makeup class, if applicable, and NOTIFY PARTICIPANTS at least 1 hour prior to the start
of class. Otherwise, the general park
inclement weather policy (above) prevails.
• In the event that regularly scheduled
classes are cancelled due to weather,
every effort will be made to schedule a
make-up.
• Please note: It is our goal to maintain
normal operations while remaining sensitive to safety concerns. Please attend
class at your own discretion. If someone
lives in an area that is affected by bad
weather and feels that travel to a class
would be an unreasonable safety risk,
that individual should not attend class.
However, if you choose not to attend an
active scheduled class, you will not be
permitted to make that class up or receive a refund.

Where does the maple syrup in your pantry
come from? Most “maple syrup” purchased
in stores isn’t maple syrup at all, but rather
high fructose corn syrup. Have you had the
privilege of experiencing the delightful taste
of pure maple syrup? Would you like to know
how to tap a maple tree in your own yard? In
this class we will:
• Discuss the history and benefits of maple
syrup
• Provide information on the process and requirements of successful tapping
• If sap is flowing we will hold an additional
class for tasting!

Pickleball
Pickleball is a fun game that is played on a
badminton court with the net lowered to 34

beginners to learn, and can develop into a
quick, fast-paced competitive game for experience players. Courts are available on
Bensman Ave. near the Park maintenance
Facility. Call the office for more info or to borrow equipment. (260)749-2212.

Program Pass
Drop-in Participation
Need motivation to work out? Too far to drive
for the gym? Like the camaraderie and accountability of fun fitness classes and excellent instructors? We’ve created a solution to
your workout dilemma, the purchase of the
monthly program pass allows participants

renew your pass before the 22nd of each
month, you will receive an additional $5 off
the price of your pass renewal! Please indicate classes you will be participating in upon
registration. These classes are limited to the
classes located at the Park Center facility.
Call the office with any questions at 749-2212
In fitness classes where drop-in participants
are permitted, the fee is $5.00/class unless
otherwise noted or stay for 2 classes the same
day for $7.00. However, it is recommended
that you register for classes in advance to ensure that there are enough people to meet
the minimum enrollment and that likewise the
class does not become overcrowded.
Cost: $40.00/participant
Try it FREE: We want you to try a new
fitness class! Stop into the Park Office
during regular hours and we will issue
you a “try it FREE” pass. Pass is good for
one person, one class. Participants are
limited to one pass per session.
25
Please note:
• We will do our best to have the classes
taught by the instructor listed. However, on
occasion, a substitute may need to be found
for a class. The substitute may not be well
versed in the style of class advertised, but will
work to the best of their ability to provide a
great workout.
• It is our policy that children under the age
of 12 participate in our fitness classes with a
parent or guardian participating as well.
• Nothing ruins a good program like… everyone waiting until the last minute to register for
it! If there are not enough participants signed
up to hold the program, it is cancelled. Signing up the day of the program will not resurrect it! Please sign up AT LEAST two days BEFORE a session is scheduled to begin.

Pilates is a body conditioning routine that
seeks to build flexibility, strength, endurance,
and coordination without adding muscle
bulk through controlled movements done
as mat exercises or with equipment to tone
and strengthen the body. In addition, Pilates
increases circulation and helps to sculpt the
body and strengthen the body’s core. People who participate in Pilates regularly feel
they have better posture, are less prone to
injury and experience better overall health.

of exercise that works the whole body, emphasizing flexibility, and strength of abdominal muscles, lower back and buttocks which
serves as the center of all movement. This
core stabilization makes one stronger from

Fall & Winter Program Guide 2014/2015
Registration
How do I register?
Min/Max
First: Your household needs to be in our software system before you can register, or be
registered for a program. You only need to
set your household up one time. Once we
verify where your tax dollars go, you will have
your own account and registration is quick
and easy!
You may register by using one of the methods below. All program registrations will be
accepted on a first come, first served basis.
The Min/Max you will find after many program
descriptions indicates the minimum number
of participants for a program that must be
enrolled for a program to run and the maximum class size allowed. This is to ensure a
quality experience. If a class you registered
for is already full, you will receive a phone call
to discuss your options.
By Mail
Complete the registration form in the back
of this book and send it with full payment
to the address on the form. Please use one
registration form per household. Your registration must be received before the registration
deadline.
In Person
You may register in person by coming to the
Parks and Recreation Office Monday - Friday
from 8:00am-4:00pm. Office is closed on City
observed Holidays.
Drop – Box
When our office is closed you may drop your
registration form off in our drop box, which is
located near the outside of the West door
(door #3) of the Park Center.
Telephone
Please have registration information and
credit card number ready. Call (260) 7492212. Please note that a $2.00 convenience
fee will be assessed when this registration
method is used.
On-Line
You may register for programs by going to our
web site at www.newhavenparksandrec.org.
Remember, you first must be set up in our system before you can register. Please note that
a $2.00 convenience fee will be assessed
when this registration method is used.
Resident/Non-Resident
• Tax dollars supporting the Parks Department
come from property taxes of people residing
in Adams Township. The fees for activities are
based on residency in these areas. All others
are considered non-residents.
• Throughout the brochure, Resident prices
are indicated with a Res and Non-Residents
with a NR.
Enrollment Policy
• Participants will be emailed a receipt of
payment if a valid email address is listed in
the household. Other than this confirmation,
participants will not be notified of enrollment
unless there is a problem. If classes are full,
participants may elect to have their name
placed on a waiting list.
• Class enrollment is not guaranteed by mailing or dropping off registration form with payment; classes may already be full.
Class Cancellations
The New Haven-Adams Township Park and
Recreation Department reserves the right
to cancel, combine or divide classes, to
change time, date or place of meeting, to
change the instructor assignments and to
make other revisions that may become necessary for any reason.
Youth Scholarship Policy
The New Haven Park and Recreation
Department offers program scholarships for qualified children in 2014 if
funds are available. To receive a scholarship, a participant must meet the following requirements:
• Age: Between the age of 5 and 18
