Scapular Control: Implications for Health
and High Performance
By learning how to assess and train scapular control correctively, we can
have a dramatic impact on upper extremity health and performance, whether it’s with general
fitness populations, post-rehabilitation clients, or athletes of all ages and ability levels. You’ll
learn about functional anatomy, faulty movement patterns, and innovative corrective exercises.
In this presentation, Eric will demonstrate that the scapula is not “just another bone!”

Program Design Made Easy
Creating a Strength & Conditioning program for hypertrophy, strength,
power, and performance is often made out to be extremely technical and
confusing. The reality is that while programming is indeed a science, it’s far from rocket science.
Coach Dos will cut through all the confusion and walk you through a simple ‘plug-n-play’ template
system that he has used for over 10 years with thousands of athletes. Not only will you see the
best results in your life, the system is sound, simple and extremely easy to implement with
any population. (San Francisco, Ft. Lauderdale)

Reconditioning 2.0 – Program Design and
Implementation
Reconditioning is a performance based model for injured athletes. It is centered on the
principles of Athletic Development rather than rehabilitation. We must correctly prepare
the athlete to reduce, stabilize and produce force with coordinated movement patterns.
Reconditioning allows a multidisciplinary approach towards designing and implementing
a Return To Competition strategy that should effectively involve strength coaches, personal
trainers, technical coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists and physicians. Bill will
introduce effective program design strategies and how to implement specific training
sessions that “train around the injury”. This approach more effectively prepares the
athlete, rather than focusing on the injury. (Fair Lawn, Ft. Lauderdale)

Start at the Finish
There are literally dozens of known and accepted ways to program all with very different goals
and objectives. Not every program is the right one for everyone, and there are many more
programs that are “correct” than “wrong.” We will talk about the main differences in programming
for the general population and athletes, as well as for particular and individual qualities. The
approach of beginning a thought process to programming with a best program and tracking
backwards based on limitations in Movement, Output, Readiness, and Sensory Systems will
integrate best practices in fitness and rehab. (Los Angeles, Austin, Ft. Lauderdale)

Coach Like A Caveman – How the
Environment Shapes Our Movement
We have evolved complex movement patterns over 1000s of years. Our children have
learned to crawl, walk, stand, and run with no help from the outside world. Despite these
facts, we still see coaches and trainers that micro-manage every aspect of movement
and technique, over communicate and cue, underutilize exploratory practice, and do not
appreciate our biological capacity and desire to teach ourselves. This presentation will
describe the neuro-scientific underpinnings of how we best learn motor skills, explain
dynamic systems theory as a coaching strategy, and share how the environment might
be the best coach we have ever had. (Chicago, Seattle)

Obviously, movement is the core of performance. But, how we teach
movement, especially in the weight room, is often more like putting together Frankenstein’s
Monster: we look at this piece and that piece and try to sew them together and hope
it works. I argue we need to start with the concept of movement first, then progress to
appropriate drills and, finally if all else has failed, get out the needle and sew the parts
together. This approach also gives us insights about why rope climbing and Monkey Bars
help javelin throwers and how squatting with 1/6th bodyweight can help an NFL Offensive
Lineman. Maybe we should say “CORRECT movement is the core
of performance.” (San Francisco, Boston)

Human Movements

Science has shown that traditional exercise has unfortunately been
woefully inadequate in terms of fat loss results for clients. The key phrase
there however, is “traditional”. Metabolic resistance training involves a
modification of traditional resistance training to maximize fat loss, by increasing caloric burn during
the activity, and metabolic rate after the activity and long term. This session will include all the
latest research to develop MRT programs combined with the most up to date programming.

Trainers TRAIN people. Coaches CHANGE people. Like it or not,
if you are a personal trainer, therapist, teacher or parent, you are
also a coach. Although the supple of exercise information is huge, there is little to transform
an educated trainer who knows what to do into an exceptional coach who gets people
to do it. In this lecture, Martin will share secrets of body language, public speaking,
and communication that will help you produce results at any level. In his high-energy
hands-on, Martin will show you a dynamic warmup to help you connect with clients
and grow as a coach. (Fair Lawn, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle)

We must have an appreciation for the movement development process
in order to create holistic exercise programs. During this session Lee will
provide an overview of the neuro-developmental process and how this
process can be used to improve movement pattern dysfunction. He will provide insight into how
these principles can be incorporated into your exercise program design. Specific techniques
such as rolling and crawling pattern progressions will be the focus. (Boston, Chicago)

Energy System Development (ESD)
ESD is a critical component of the training regimen. Whether you’re programming to
build work capacity, improving fitness or enhancing athletic conditioning, understanding
the different energy systems and how to elicit improvements within these systems is
paramount to your clients’ and athletes’ success. During this session we will examine
each energy system, how to program for them, and arm you with the information needed to
create effective ESD programs. The hands-on will allow you to experience a variety of ESD
exercises that are instantaneously applicable to the individual, group, or team setting.
